  • I'm tracking down a misfire condition and smelled a bunch of fuel coming from the oil cap when opened.
I replaced the HPFP because it is a typical culperit and easy to get to.
I will need to change the oil and filter next to see if gas smell stays present. If its still there, I may need to look at injectors being stuck open.
I did not show the inspection of the cam follower in the video. Be sure to pull it out and check for scoring and bearing noise. Replace if needed.

This is a really well formatted video, easy to follow along. I would say, it would be good to include the fuse box location next time and also specify that it is necessary to use a long triple square instead of a regular socket. I already had a regular so didn't think twice. Luckily i was able to buy one locally.

When i started my A5 2.0tfsi it suddebly started pouring fuel out of the side where the black hose connects. Do i need to replace the whole pump then?

If it's just leaking from a cracked fuel line, you can replace the fuel hose by itself.

I replaced the pump just as in the video, placed back the fuse and pushed in the FOB. The car turned over and thought the lord answered my prayers. It idled for about 20 seconds, then engine started convulsing and engine shut off. I wanted to try the fuel regulator sensor first but could not find one anywhere in the local autozones. I feel defeated and depressed. Why did it have to start and run for a bit? That makes it that much worse.

My first thought would be to make sure the fuse was put back in the right spot. It is weird that it would run for a few seconds then shut down. Double check that the fuse isnt't blown as well. I think its a 25 amp fuse. Do you hear the fuel pump turn on when you open the driver door?

This car had a misfire. I did find that it also had a fuel injector that was stuck open later down the road.

I get a rattle snake sound coming from the engine bay. A mechanic said that it's the HPFP that needs to be replaced. Fuel pressure was at 38.90 bar and he said it should be way higher. Also pressing the acceleration pedal, first there is a lag, engine increases rpm and after that the car starts to wake up.
Can it be because of the HPFP?

    • @chris-ni5sv
      @chris-ni5sv Рік тому +1

more than likely, i have the same problem on my audi a4 2008, i opened the hood while the car was running and the HPFP was shaking like crazy, I looked at it while the engine was off, and i see that it was missing 2 bolts, i guess it came off or something. But i am currently getting the HPFP replaced and the pcv valve aswell.

It may take a few cranks. It has to build up pressure, around 700 psi or so, to keep fuel pressure. Possibly you had residual fuel in the line to kick it on once? It helps if you have a scanner with live data and you can watch the fuel pressure build in real time.

  • @EuroMasters.Auto.

Those shiny pliers told me what I needed to know really my friend let me tell you modern cars have A LOT of shit going on even in the dealership with manufacturer manual and $50ks+ worth of scanners sometimes it is really hard to pin point the issue for us
You can easily spend years on UA-cam searching this and that replacing half of the engine and getting no where
If only you’d know how many cars we see the owner tried to DIY it and either has done things with no effect or made everything worse
Also didn’t you say you’ve done compression test and there’s been a low compression in a cylinder!?
I assume you haven’t don’t leak and/or wet test otherwise at least you’d know if there’s leak from valves or ring!!
I know HPFP if absolutely rubbish on CDNB and it’s a good idea to replace it (with fuel pressure sensor) but in %99 of the times it ain’t gonna fix this engine’s legendary miss fire
I hope you haven’t waste your money on new plugs , coils and timing 🤣

I ended up pulling the motor and replacing the pistons/rings. Ran good after that. This motor had previously been "rebuilt" by a place in california. They used cheap pistons/rings which seemed to be causing the misfire/rough idle issues.
