      Every Capsule includes multiple fasteners which lock your seed phrase in place. Made of steel, the only way for the tiles to fall out would be to intentionally remove the fastener (since it cannot be removed any other way) and drop it.

    • @Cryptosteel

      Good question Mads. The BIP39 system uses a list of 2048 words, with none repeating the same 4 first letters. Additionally, when recovering a wallet like Trezor, Ledger, Blockstream etc, those wallets only require the first 4 letters, so you never actually need the full words. When you're on the wallet recover screen, each letter you put in narrows down the available words, so many words are auto-completed after just 2 or 3 letters. The BIP39 word list is also open source on github: github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0039/english.txt

      The Cryptosteel Capsule is the result of a years-long research and development process focused on implementing a wide range of safety features paired with extreme durability. One of them is the moveable fastener located in the slot. It enhances shock absorption and minimizes the effect of potential stress on the tiles.
      The Capsule as a whole is extremely resistant. It can withstand up to 150 kN of pressure - but your data is safe even beyond that!
      Even if crushed, the device preserves your code by clamping shut on the character tiles. Since the fastener and the core are not fixed to the cap, you can open the Capsule and recover the seed.
      If you love flat design, you can order the original Cryptosteel Cassette, the first all-metal-backup invented in 2014. cryptosteel.com/statement-on-cryptosteel-open-source-origins/

    • @Cryptosteel
      @Cryptosteel  3 роки тому +2

      With the Capsule, you have an immediate in-the-box solution that requires no special tools or knowledge. 10 minutes, by yourself, and you have a permanent backup. With engraving, you require special tools and knowledge - or needing to compromise your data by going to an engraver. Travel with a plate is also compromising, as there is nothing to shield the information. Getting high-quality steel is another barrier for many users. The consistency and legibility of the tile system allows for generations to read what's on it - while engraving can be sloppy and inconsistent. A capsule allows for rapid setup, re-use, corrections, consistent readability, and minimal risk when setting up. An engraved steel plate has none of this. We invented the steel tile system - it is simple and flexible, and our customers prefer it. We wrote an article explaining the tile system and why we believe it is a superior system:

      Abbreviating words is the standard for BIP39 seed phrases (Ledger, Trezor wallets, etc). To recover, you only need the first 4 letters and wallets don't usually even ask for the entire word. While a steel pipe and paper could be fine, it is worth considering the quality of the steel pipe - is it stainless steel? Rust proof? Waterproof? What happens if there's a fire, would the steel protect the paper sufficiently? Or a flood? For many users, simple home solutions will work fine. But as your assets build up, you need to ask yourself - how satisfied am I with my backup security?

      The Capsule is made of German AISI 303 and 304 stainless steel. It is capable of withstanding house fires, totally waterproof and rustproof, highly resistant to corrosion and even mass pressure. The tiles are also stainless steel, and are press-stamped instead of laser engraved which prevents erosion. These features allow for your seed phrase - and, in turn, your digital assets - to endure a huge variety of extreme conditions. Plus, it is small and lightweight allowing for huge flexibility in storage options. Essentially, if you want to have long-term offline storage, the Capsule is built to survive any conditions it encounters.

      To me that’s a really good question, imagine years from now you may want to liquidate your crypto and you can’t remember the entire word, I don’t think this is a good system here.

      The way the seed phrase system was designed is so there are no 2 words with the same 4 first letters in the list of possible letters you could be given

    Does anybody AGREE with me or am I the only person with this opinion????
    It's a great idea and all, but you should've made the capsule bigger so that you could actually put the entire words on it and not just 4 letters. I mean if I'm spending this amount of money for a security capsule, I would rather have it a bit bigger and put the entire words on there, just for the pure fact that you could mistake the 4 letters for another word if you did lose the paper seed. I would buy this, but until you guys do decide to fix and let us add the entire words, then sorry, I'm not gonna get it.

      Please read our article. There is no way the first four letters can be repeated.

      @@Cryptosteel Do not buy this! Even with abbreviating the 24 words to 4 letters, there is not enough space to put on the fastener. You will need to remove half of the spacers separating the words in order to make it all fit. DO NOT PURCHASE

    Yeah, like in 10 or 20 years I'm going to remember what the word was with only 4 of the letters... or if I give it to another person in my will, they will have psychic powers to know what the word was. Horrible system for 24 words.

      There is a list containing 2048 words to choose from. Going into that list, your 1st 4 letters will give you exactly 1 word.
