I’m extremely saddened by the lack of education that goes into breastfeeding and pumping by the OBGYN community. I was sent home with only 2 super large flanges, no knowledge that other sizes were even available and basically a good luck.
Same here! My lactation consultant measured me at 30 mm and I barely made milk in the beginning due to wrong sizing, I’ve been dealing with super sore swollen nipples for 9 months now and ordered silicone inserts to size my down and I’m finally starting to feel relief but still a bit uncomfortable with my pumping experience as my nipples still hurt. There is such a lack of information out there for flange sizing and for elastic nipples. I even got resized by Legendairy Milk and I was sized wrong again. Just crazy
I had no idea that pumping shouldn't be painful! I just always thought I had way too sensitive nipples and will never be comfortable nursing or pumping. Thank you for this amazing video!!

Thank you so much for this!!! I’ve been using a 24mm for almost 3 months now. Been wondering why my nipps are sore after pumping. After doing my research so happy I found this video. Just ordered a 17mm flange. I really hope it works! 😊
I don't know if you've ever tried this but I would suggest getting a ring sizing chart, I find this extremely helpful. Definitely easier to read then a measuring tape when doing yourself. It was also cheaper to buy a ring sizing chart then a whole bunch of flange sizes. I have been pumping wrong for the past 5 years with a 24 mm when I actually fit a 17! Your video is beyond amazing and was so informative and helpful. It has made my breast pumping painless and remove a lump I've had for the past year! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

This is by far the most informative video I've watched! I want to sincerely thank you! Baby boy born 3/23/23. He was early ended up in the NICU and had to learn to feed. Suck swallow and breathe. Now I've learned he has a tongue tie. He's nursing so well but doesn't empty me. tried 2 pumps still not emptying. Supply has gone down so much! But I'm not using the right size flange! Only reason I started pumping was due to him being in the NICU. He also didn't gain any weight in a week. His pediatrician wants me to pump and feed NICU wants me to supplement and I'm okay doing all! He's growing now but more than likely due to formula. Was producing 2 ounces which is what he was drinking and satisfied for 3 hours. Now he wants up to 3 ounces every 3 hours and im pumping 1 ounce maybe a little more. Will my supply come back up? Once he gets stronger and can nurse longer will he bring my supply back up to meet his needs? Thank you again! You're definitely in the right profession!!
Thank u so much.... After breastfeeding 4 children... the 5th on was a tiny 4 lb baby, dint latch on therefore needed to pump.. besides ton of washing not getting any milk out drove me crazy plus the pain .. ur video changed it all... Instead of sitting for 20 mins. Just getting drops... its 10 mins .... n I got 70 ml on one side n 40 in the other... v greatful to u...🤩 ❤❤
If you make an appointment with your local WIC office rhey have flanges and they have size 20 and 19 for Medela pump in style and other medela and probably some other ones. Im going there tomorrow to get a better fit.
This is the best video I have ever seen! I’ve been pumping for 7 months and after watching this I believe I’m using the wrong size flange. I measured 20 mm but was using a 27mm. By the end of my pumping seeding my nipples are as wide as the flange is that normal?
If your diameter is 20mm, a 22-24mm may be the best fit. If your nipple is being a lot of areolar tissue in while pumping, which with a 27mm I’m sure it is, then it’s swelling that tissue and nipples can look swollen after. Not sure if that makes sense.
Thank you!! For some reason I thought I was weird for having such a small measurement and thought I must have been mistaken. Been struggling to pump with a 19mm and basically just hand expressing into the electric pump! Will order a smaller one today!
How did it end up working for you? I’ve been using 17mm and 19mm inserts and still hurting..so I forked out more cash for a 15mm and I’m crossing my fingers! I’m not sure what size I truly am because my nipples are always swollen and raw from pumping
@@jessicapreston9808 It definitely worked better! I never really got the hang of the pump, but it worked much better with the much smaller size! Good luck!
I'm currently pumping. I've been using a 24mm for 3 weeks and I'm not producing as much. I'm hoping when I change my nipple shield it'll come in and give me more milk!!
Sitting here watching this as a first time mom & very swollen areolas & almost crying from the pain when pumping… NOW I know why & need to size down on the flange
I could cry..you are so sweet..I’ve been going through hell pumping in pain. This is the most informative thing I’ve found. The LC at the hospital told me “pumping is never comfortable” which is apparently a lie?! I’ve been going through so much coconut oil trying to lube up my nips in a 24mm flange. I recently bought 17mm and 19mm inserts and I’m still in extreme pain, so I’m going to try a 15! I think my nipple is about 15, having a hard time figuring out where to measure. I wish I could book an appointment with you! ❤
Pumping should never hurt!!! I’m so sorry! I do zoom consults all over the world. But… lemme show you this from me IG that may help. instagram.com/p/CvLAFbapavD/?igsh=MXVlMXNrdGlhb2Jqdw==
Thanks for the video! I mostly nurse, but will also pump. I think I must just not have very sensitive nipples because it never felt uncomfortable even though I've apparently been using the wrong sized flanges. However, it did always take about 20 minutes to get good output. I'm interested to see if this could cut my pumping time down!
I bet it does cut your pumping maybe in half. I’ve found that some women are more sensitive to flange fit and other can be in a wrong size and have no pain and get good volume regardless. But … most at least cut their time down!
I can confirm that my new spectra pump that I got yesterday has a 24mm and a 28mm in it Also, I wanted to say thanks for this video. Lots of great information!!
Yes, me too!!! So I thought 24 was the smallest size..Even that was pulling in my entire areola. I’ve been in so much pain. Crossing my fingers that a 15mm insert gives me the comfort she talks about..I can’t imagine pumping feeling like “nothing”..oh what a dream that would be!
@@jessicapreston9808 I got the 15mm inserts and they are a game changer! When I was in the hospital, the lactation consultant was having me pump with a 21mm trying to get colostrum because my jaundice baby was a VERY lazy eater. My baby is 2 weeks now and I’m just now getting my nipples to stop hurting from how BADLY that too big of a flange tore me up. And I HIGHLY suggest lubricating with a coconut oil (any food grade oil to be honest) rather than a tacky nipple cream or balm.
Thank thank you thank you ! I have been using a motif and a 28mm it’s been hurting and yes I can only get to 3-4 for pump strength so this came to me just in time !! I am going on Amazon to find 17mm because as I measured it turns out I’m about a 15 mm as well!!
@@aurora6920did you ever figure it out? I’m measuring roughly 15 and I’ve tried a 17mm insert and still in horrible pain. I’ve tried 17, 19, 24, and 28 and they all hurt. So I ordered a 15. Praying it helps. I’m about to give up
@@jessicapreston9808 It was a year ago i posted this so i can't remember what size i used.. but what i do remember is after birth when breast feeding and using the pump I had to use a bigger size for the nipple as your nipple swells up! so it's useful to order a bigger size too. I also badly bled from both nipples due to i think using nipple shields that were too small (again i should have used bigger sizes) whilst using the pump made both my nipples badly damaged and bled. I always found pumping very sore and didn't produce much, plus recovering from c-section and other factors :( Hope you have a better experience! but moral of the story is i should have used bigger sizes than what i am and not use nipple shield with the pump (i was badly bitten so thought it would help) turned out my baby did have tongue tie but NHS staff said he didn't, but going privately he did and it made a huge difference.
Thank you soooo much ❤ i hâve been struggling with choosing the right flange size my nipples are flat and I am really confused determining their borders . Can you clarify more?❤
@@nahlahamed1292 You’re right. It can be tricky to find the border and very difficult to explain without being in person. Sometimes if you hand express, or stimulate the nipples they become a bit more pronounced or erect and then you could tell.
Thank you for this video. I just pumped with the right size flange and got the volume I do in 20 minutes in 5. 😅 I've been pumping wrong for 8 MONTHS. 😢
I don’t know if this relates to anyone, but I had a c-section so I was very swollen all over after birth. My baby wasn’t able to latch till about 3 weeks after and I was pumping till he was able to latch. I’m just now realizing that the reason I got a spray from a 24 flange and now I don’t anymore is because all the swelling went down! 🤯 I’m actually a 19, not 24. That’s why my supply has been gradually waning
@@wantingtolearn7386 yes even with a vaginal delivery - IV fluids can cause edema and then that swelling can swell the areola. A Lactation Consultant *should* be trained to be able to still delineate the difference between the areola and the nipple. But a postpartum RN may not. How far pp are you? It could be recovered!
@@EmoPrincxss666 You are absolutely right. Inserts are definitely an option. Some people prefer the hard plastic over the silicone inserts and vice versa. The inserts are definitely an advantage for use with multiple pumps if they are comfortable!!!
Thank you this is the best flang size guide I've seen in youtube Unfortunately in Sri Lanka we don't get much options to choose between sizes lot of pumps comes in same size Anyway thank you for the video Very informative 👍
Thank you that’s a high compliment ♥️. Dang it. I know that common in certain places in the world. It’s not fair. Pump companies need to offer a variety of sizes that come included with the pump. Hopefully that will change soon!
I cant believe the amount of midwives and health visitors I have spoken too with my issues with pumping and its most likely a wrong sized flange! I have a mam pump, does anyone know where I can get flanges to fit that or are they quite universal? X
Should there be a stream of milk the entire pump session or only during your let down? I have a strong let down but after a few minutes it turns to drops.
@@ittyBittyGwen Ideally yes. It slows the nearer the end of end of the session. Is your overall collection normal? 2-4oz total is typical for a missed breastfeeding.
@DoneNaturally I'm not breastfeeding, just pumping! I get 2-3oz typically from the right but usually once a day I get only 40-60ml. My left is a slacker and I usually get .5 to 1oz. My MOTN pump and morning pump average between 100 and 160mls total. I've been trying to increase my supply and nothing seems to work. All parts are brand new and I constantly check my flange size. I pump every 3 hours and when I try to up it to 2 hours I make less for the day than when I pump 3 which confused me!
@@ittyBittyGwen So the normal amount to collect for a pump session is 2-4oz total. And the total to collect in a 24 hr period is 24oz. It sounds like that is close to what you are collecting?
I’m so frustrated with this. I am not making enough supply and was using 21mm I measure 17. Once I saw all these videos saying the areola shouldn’t go in that much I said okay I’ll go with 19mm then since everything says add 2-3 mm on. That’s still too large because I’m not getting any of the spraying that you talked about. I’ve also noticed the swollenness and ring around the base of my nipple. I’m really hoping the 17mm works now.
I hear you. When I was pumping 15-20 years ago, we didn’t even know this … and I would pump for 15m and get 1/8th of an ounce, yet I could nurse and my babies got all they needed.
Thank you this is what I needed! Been having sore nipples and after watching your video realised I have the wrong flange size. When it’s not spraying on one side after getting the right flange size, does it mean nipples are damaged and is it reversible?
@@DoneNaturally yup have tried a couple different ones. Noticed a little spray today. Perhaps it was ‘injured’? Have you encountered such cases before? I’ll keep monitoring and see how it goes in the next few days. I’ve also noticed that ‘injured’ side had also lesser yield the pass couple of days, since the soreness started. Am hoping that’s just the case and it’s not permanent 🤞🏻
Hi there, what color should your nipple look after pumping? The Medela manual says “if white, need a different size” but doesn’t specify if I should go down or up or what it even means if the nipple is white after pumping. I definitely have discomfort, therefore know I’m using the wrong size. Just want to make sure I’m not cutting off circulation or anything like that.
Omg tell me why I’ve been online looking for a 27mm or bigger size flange because I keep thinking since my nipples end up very large after pumping that I need something bigger, the exact opposite! Also, I started using the 21mm felt some discomfort and thought let me go to the 24mm so it can be better and felt even more discomfort so was looking for the 27mm lol all this to say thank you so much for this video I’ll go look for a 19mm now and continue my bf journey 🙏🙏🙏
Hello Why the concept of pumping is different from that of direct breastfeeding I mean that in breast feeding a large part of the areola should be in the mouth for proper latch while for pumping only the nipples are to fit in the flange ?!!
@@nahlahamed1292 Very interesting discrepancy right? Something I’ve thought about often. I can only imagine it is because pumping is only a vacuum. And what a baby’s mouth does at the breast to remove milk is very different and has many nuances that elicit milk that have nothing to do with vacuum.
Any suggestions on measuring a flat nipple. Well the issue I’m having is my nipple fitting comfortably inside the flanges. I’ve found it so difficult to pump as I notice I have a lot of elasticity as well. I have got different measurements from multiple LCs. I want to boost my milk supply but unfortunately it has been decreasing and takes extremely long.
So when is a good time to measure your nipple? Is a few days after the start of breastfeeding ok to measure and order your flange size? Which small off brand flanges are best with the spectra? Thank you!
Do you think it’s better to have a flange big enough to where the nipple doesn’t touch the sides while pumping? OR a flange that’s bigger than what you suggest, but the nipple doesn’t touch the sides while pumping? I either get some areola in the flange while pumping or my nipples touch the sides while pumping, even when I measure and my nipples aren’t touching the sides at the start, they always end up that way a couple minutes in.
The nipple can touch the sides. Key points are: no pain, most milk collected in shortest amount of time, highest vacuum that is tolerated and often that’s about 1-3mm larger than your actual nipple diameter. We don’t want a lot of areola pulled in, it swells the nipple.
They make 17mm inserts that can fit into the zomee. Not sure which zomee you have - but if you look up Ameda Flange on Amazon, those are very similar style - that may work as well. But the flange inserts will for sure fit.
I’m sad that I was using 24mm on guidance from hospital LC’s and messed up my nipples. I get zapping shooting pain in the nipple pores during suction on level 1! I’m so disappointed. Also have burning and stinging and doctors say it’s not thrush. I may have vasospasm who knows at this point. I believe i measure 17 or so. The LC said the nipple shouldn’t rub the tunnel during pumping (and suggested 21) but I’ve heard that rubbing is ok? Which is it? Also do you measure nipple in resting state or perked up state? I’ve heard different things
You measure at rest. I’m so sorry you’re experiencing pain and feel mislead. Extra areola shouldn’t be pulled into the tunnel. Most people like only a few mm larger than their actual nipple diameter. So as close to the nipple size as possible. And you’ll see the nipple rubbing or touching the edge, yes and it shouldn’t hurt at all.
The flange js likely too big. Look at this from my IG. It takes common household items and compared to your nipple; can help you see what your diameter is. instagram.com/p/CpKvDNduxcZ/
I’m still very confused on what flange size I should be using. I’m 2 months PP & have been using a 24mm. It isn’t painful but it is somewhat uncomfortable and I rub on the inside of the flange. I measured my nipples and I’m a 15mm. I use the spectra pump and am getting anywhere from 5-8 oz in 10 minutes (more in AM sessions) and I’m seeing a lot of spraying. How can this happen if my flange size is wrong? I’m very confused by all of this and am desperate to get the correct flange size.
Some women pump well regardless of sizing. So you might be that woman. If you measure a 15mm diameter, a 17-19mm flange would likely be a great fit. You might collect even more or be able to shorten your pump session considerably while still collecting the same amount.
My baby just turned 2 months and I want to start pumping- is it too late into the game to try( I didn’t do it bc it hurts to pump- wrong size flanges)…??? Is my supply set in its ways now…???
Hi I'm measuring about 21 maybe 20 ish and I have been using a 24mm and it makes my nipples swell up down the tube what size would I get is it too big?
You mentioned that if it’s the right size, then we shouldn’t feel anything, and definitely no pain. But I feel pain sometimes just simply from my baby brushing against my shirt. So of course I’ll feel pain from the pump. Usually I have to push through the pain at the beginning of a pump session and then it goes away after a couple minutes. Maybe I’m doing something wrong. Or maybe my nipples hurt from breastfeeding. I think baby has a bad latch.
How far postpartum are you? Nipples can be tender to the touch especially the first 2 weeks, where a shirt can do that. But nursing shouldn’t be painful and pumping shouldn’t either.
@@DoneNaturally I’m 6 weeks postpartum. The first couple days postpartum, there was bleeding and extreme pain. It’s better now, but still painful to breastfeed.
I used 25mm and then 24mm. Just measured and I think I'm 15mm, but when I use the pump the nipple swells and rubs against the funnel not entirely just one side I guess. According to online advice, this means I should go bigger. What do you think?
If you measured a 15mm, you’d likely do well with a 17mm or 19mm flange. Bigger will only swell areola tissue and make you collect less milk and take longer time to pump.
Wow I have been using the wrong flange. I had no idea what those pieces were even for until now ! I was using a 24mm, I think the 21mm flange will work better ! THANK YOU
What we are learning is that what we used to call elastic nipples are actually not. That is what happens when nipples are in too large of a flange. Most women’s nipples are smaller diameter and need flanges that are smaller than 24mm. I’d suggest actually measuring the nipple. A measure tape or these common household items can give you an idea. instagram.com/p/CpKvDNduxcZ/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Thank you for responding!!!!!❤I watched your tongue tie video as well too late for us 😢but I agree with everything there. Throughout the healing and exercises time I keep thinking this is just adding trauma to baby. My son is 5 months old and won’t nurse at all. Once in a while he’ll latch and I celebrate it still hoping for a miracle. All that to say I’ve been exclusively pumping for all this time bearing the pain. Measuring seems tricky now that the nipples are constantly swollen. Right now they’re measuring close to 2cm/nickel size which is crazy to me. I’m always thinking I don’t know how much longer I can pump since it hurts all the time. I’ll try a smaller flange which feels counterintuitive but I’m up for trying anything to make this work!
so if you have super flat nipples does it effect the size of them to have them become erect to measure? or should you measure them in their flat state??
With I had found this video early on my pumping journey, I though my pump was not working well and that my hands free pump which was expensive did not worked neither. I was using 27 instead of 21. Thanks for this useful information! I will be able to boost my production the right way and in less time.
Hi, thanks alot for your video! I’m 2 months PP and I’ve been super stressed with pumping because whenever I do pump, I only get less than 5 mL of milk on the right side and nothing from the left… 😔 I’ve been using the 24mm medela flange because whenever I try the 21 mm I get no milk whatsoever. I think my nipples are 15mm but I’m really not sure as both my nipples are inverted. I measured they by slightly pulling them out and measuring with a measuring tape quickly before they retract again. Any suggestions on how to measure inverted nipples? It’s been very hard emotionally for me as I can’t even latch my baby on, I’m basically on the verge of giving up on breastfeeding but at the same time, want to try out all possibilities so I don’t regret it later on 😭 So any advice or tips would help please 💕
Oh and I did give the nipple shields a try but they haven’t worked for me… kept falling off when I try to latch my baby on. I even tried taping it to my breasts which only hurts peeling them off. I’ve eaten oats, garlic, dairy products, lactation cookies, fenugreek capsules, even domperidone tablets prescribed by my doctor to increase supply but no progress in milk supply
I'm having the same problem dear. My baby is 2 months old still not latching properly. Used breast shield, breast pump, but nothing changed. My milk supply is still low used all kind of stuffs to increase milk production. My stress increases as this go on 😢
I recently sized myself with the little hole nipple ruler after using a 21mm and my nipple going more than half way down the flange neck. I measured at a 15mm, so i ordered a 17mm and 19mm. They work good with my Zoomee, but when i use my spectra, it still hurts, and sometimes i will get a pinching feeling on the sides of my boobs...
What we now know is that the term elastic nipples applies to all nipples, as they are made of muscle and tissue that is designed to stretch….. Before when people used this term they did so talking about difficulty with flange fit. But what we know now is often that happens, it means that nipple is in too large of a flange. Flat nipples still have tissue that can be measured…as the tissue difference between areola and nipple Tissue can be seen by a trained professional. I’m not sure if this helps you now, but certainly flat nipples can be measured by an IBCLC and we still only want about 1-3mm larger than the nipple itself to be the flange size.
I’m actually the opposite! I never knew how big my nipple could get!! My partner and sister are shocked at how much they’ve grown. Is this something normal? Has anyone else been through the same thing?
During pregnancy the areola grows in size, the dark circle around the nipple. Is that what you mean? Or have your nipple (shafts) everted … started to stick out?
In my first baby I was struggling with pumping And having no milk in my bottles And thinking my milk isn’t enough And the ZISING ! Is the wrong thing i ve done Thank you for clarifying ❤

Thank you so much for creating new videos! This one especially was so helpful!!!
I’m so glad!!!!!
Thank you! Bestttt vid hands down in breast pump flange guide
Wow! Thank You so much for that! 🩷
I can confirm that my new spectra pump that I got yesterday has a 24mm and a 28mm in it
Also, I wanted to say thanks for this video.
Oh my goodness thank you so much! My only question is would it feel different with the plastic flanges as appose to the rubber insert ones?
I’ve seen people have a preference, yes. But not a consistent preference. Some prefer the inserts and some prefer the flanges.
Thank thank you thank you ! I have been using a motif and a 28mm it’s been hurting and yes I can only get to 3-4 for pump strength so this came to me just in time !! I am going on Amazon to find 17mm because as I measured it turns out I’m about a 15 mm as well!!
Woooooooo hooooo
did you find that 17mm was the correct size in the end and comfortable? I also measure 15mm and trying to figure out which to order.
You video is sooo helpful..❤❤
Thank you. I'll follow your advice. Y nipples are so sore from 4 days of EP!!
This was so useful, thank you so much!
Grazie.
Prego!
Hello,
I tried inserts but I never saw the stream that’s supposed to happen 🙈I think I have elastic nipples , any idea what can I do.
Thanks very much
Thank you!! This was very helpful!
Thank you for this very useful video! It helps a lot !
I wish my lactation consultants helped me to get the right size 13 years ago, when I became a first time mom.
I got a spectra synergy gold, and it came with 24mm and 28mm 😢 my sons pediatrician told me I was about a 20

You don't have to buy a whole new flange, there's adapter inserts and they usually come in a pack with a few different sizes and are pretty cheap
@@EmoPrincxss666 You are absolutely right. Inserts are definitely an option. Some people prefer the hard plastic over the silicone inserts and vice versa. The inserts are definitely an advantage for use with multiple pumps if they are comfortable!!!
@@DoneNaturallywhere do you buy the inserts? First time mom and trying to figure this all out before baby comes!!!
@ Amazon!
Thank you this is the best flang size guide I've seen in youtube
Unfortunately in Sri Lanka we don't get much options to choose between sizes lot of pumps comes in same size
Anyway thank you for the video
Very informative 👍
Thank you that’s a high compliment ♥️. Dang it. I know that common in certain places in the world. It’s not fair. Pump companies need to offer a variety of sizes that come included with the pump. Hopefully that will change soon!
I cant believe the amount of midwives and health visitors I have spoken too with my issues with pumping and its most likely a wrong sized flange!
I have a mam pump, does anyone know where I can get flanges to fit that or are they quite universal? X
Super helpful, thank you!!

I’m pregnant with my 3rd, and believe it or not I did not know any of this! Is it possible to need a different size flange for your other breast?
It is! Each nipple can be different.
If one still nurses while pregnant can you trust your measurements? I am one who will be tandem feeding as my newborn will be here in 3 weeks.
Yes. The areola gets larger as we are pregnant, but the shaft of the nipple shouldn’t change.
*I am trying the 19mm insert this time!! Let'sPRAY it works!! I messured, max 21 is what I need, 24 hurts like crazy*
What was the actual diameter mm of measurement of each nipple?
This helped so much thank you ❤
I’m so glad!
Is it possible that you even still need a different flange size for the one that isn’t spraying? Did you try multiple?
@@DoneNaturally yup have tried a couple different ones. Noticed a little spray today. Perhaps it was ‘injured’? Have you encountered such cases before? I’ll keep monitoring and see how it goes in the next few days. I’ve also noticed that ‘injured’ side had also lesser yield the pass couple of days, since the soreness started. Am hoping that’s just the case and it’s not permanent 🤞🏻
When should you measure for the right flange before baby comes or after?
Either. Best before imo - Bc after delivery you can have swelling even in the areola that can make it confusing to measure.
Oh great! I’m glad you figured this out. Here’s another helpful way to measure. instagram.com/p/CvLAFbapavD/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Hello
Why the concept of pumping is different from that of direct breastfeeding I mean that in breast feeding a large part of the areola should be in the mouth for proper latch while for pumping only the nipples are to fit in the flange ?!!
@@DoneNaturally thanks dear❤️
I had knew breastfeeding was stressful, but WOWWWWWW!!! I didn’t know it was for a bazillion different reasons! 😩🥺😭
have anyone used flange inserts? are those useful?
Yes. Many of my moms use those.
So, it's not nipple pain for me! The funnels hurt my breasts when the pump is on, even if I have it on a low suction. It just really pulls at my skin.
Do you know a 17 mm flange that will fit a zomee pump 😊
@@DoneNaturally ok got it! Thanks for much for replying and answering my questions. I’ve just been so confused during this time.
What if the measurement is 10mm . What will be the correct flange
They make 12mm, 13mm and 15mm. Most ppl like 1-4mm larger than their measurement.
What if the nipple is NOT touching the flange when you start pumping, but it starts to touch it later in the session?
The flange js likely too big. Look at this from my IG. It takes common household items and compared to your nipple; can help you see what your diameter is. instagram.com/p/CpKvDNduxcZ/
Hi! I’m measuring at about 10mm, should I try a 15mm flange ?
Hi I’m 10 as well what size worked for you
I’m still very confused on what flange size I should be using.
Thank you for your advice and quick response! I will be ordering new flanges today to try!
They do make 22mm. Have you tried those?
@@laurendyas8426 Have you seen a Lactation Consultant to address the pain?
I used 25mm and then 24mm. Just measured and I think I'm 15mm, but when I use the pump the nipple swells and rubs against the funnel not entirely just one side I guess. According to online advice, this means I should go bigger. What do you think?
If you measured a 15mm, you’d likely do well with a 17mm or 19mm flange. Bigger will only swell areola tissue and make you collect less milk and take longer time to pump.
@@DoneNaturally thank you so much for the quick reply ❤️❤️❤️
@@MOverDose no problem!
I have the same problem, ordered 17 and my nippy feel hurt probably will move to 19mm

Wow I have been using the wrong flange. I had no idea what those pieces were even for until now !
I was using a 24mm, I think the 21mm flange will work better !
THANK YOU
Always good to find out and then see what positive things it can change!!!
Can you measure at 6 months pregnant? Or should I wait till closer to the due date?
Yes you can! Your areola may get larger but your actual nipple shouldn’t. Still might move a 1mm or so … But you can a good guesstimate.
I’ve watched all the videos and im still so confused and not sure if I have the correct size. Im only getting 2oz in 30 mins
Is there someone that can be with you as you measure and try out different flanges?
Any suggestions for elastic nipples? I’ve tried 24/28/30mm flanges the largest work best but no matter what I do the pumping hurts.
An IBCLC could easily measure while flat. You might be able to also.
My stress increases as this go on 😢
Were you able to find something that worked? Were you able to increase your supply at 2 months pp?
I recently sized myself with the little hole nipple ruler after using a 21mm and my nipple going more than half way down the flange neck. I measured at a 15mm, so i ordered a 17mm and 19mm. They work good with my Zoomee, but when i use my spectra, it still hurts, and sometimes i will get a pinching feeling on the sides of my boobs...
Is the pressure up too high? Did you get an insert or the actual Maymom or Nenesupply flange for the Spectra?
I turned the pressure to the lowest and it still bothered me. It is from Nenesupply I believe.
@@lisadriskell7756did you ever figure this out? I’m having same issue- measured 15 and 17/19 still hurt. Frustrated!
Please can you do a video on flat nipples/elastic nipples. None of these videos ever address those and i’m in dire need
What we now know is that the term elastic nipples applies to all nipples, as they are made of muscle and tissue that is designed to stretch….. Before when people used this term they did so talking about difficulty with flange fit. But what we know now is often that happens, it means that nipple is in too large of a flange. Flat nipples still have tissue that can be measured…as the tissue difference between areola and nipple
Tissue can be seen by a trained professional.
@@DoneNaturally both! My nipples are so much wider than they were before & I have inverted nipples so now they’re starting to stick out more often.
Also Are areaolas that small as well.??? I must be a freak
