Great video. Glad to have found your channel. I got and '82 60. I'll definitely be doing this job in the future as I want to replace the stock Birfields with some chromoly or 300M shafts.

@@AdventureTEQ . Hear in Oz we use the hilux ln106 calipers which are a direct bolt on , small adjustment to dust cover providing a larger volume piston .
80 series dual diaphragm booster and master cylinder, also direct bolt on.

Do you have any tips on cleaning and painting the parts? What to protect/cover and the type of paint you used?

Hi! I must admit that several of my projects have suffered from inadequate painting and coating protection. I’ve had the intent to invest into a zinc/nickel plating system (simple components and materials available from Amazon), but have yet to explore those yet. Best thing I’ve used is POR-15, starting with their Metal-Prep, then their standard coatings, followed by their UV Top Coat for parts exposed to the sun. But often times I’ve resorted to simple Krylon/Rustoleum primer and paint!
For cleaning of course I used the wire wheel on the bench grinder or the the sonic hot vat cleaner!

I can see the great cleaning on the components, including the nuts and bolts. I think I saw you on the wire grinder with that. When I cleaned some bolts up like that, they seemed to rust straight away cause they are raw metal? Did you need to seal them somehow? Thanks

I’d like to do a zinc plate treatment on future projects. Ours don’t immediately rust here, but everything that is exposed to outside elements I try to paint well before or after install.
Either way, new rust is better than 30 year old rust! And I can’t see reinstalling those parts with all that gunk on there! 🤷🏼‍♂️

      What did cost in parts?

I bought what looks like the same hub kit, SUMO GEAR (SBKL3) and it appears to include an extra seal - at any rate I can't see where it it goes - don't remember seeing one during disassembly. About 31mm internal dia. The seal is embedded in a steel 'top hat' with a red rubber outer sealing ring. Any ideas?

Sorry man! I’d give the guys at Cruiser Outfitters a call to help you out.

Really well done on this...I have a non knuckle rebuild ask though. I know you mentioned 4.88 gears. What size tires are you (is your son) running? And with that combo how's it running on highway, are you able to maintain 75mph for example? My bigger ask is BOUT Suspension. It appears the 60 has a Manafre OME 4" lift with shackle reversal and I'm about to do that...but they don't provide any real directions just the boxes of parts...ikea or lego they are not. Any way you can share a look at the suspension. I can get my head wrapped more fully around this with visual references, will help confirm my plans.

      Ahoy! And thanks.
He only has 31” or 32” tires on. You can maybe see in the video which. I’m pretty sure he runs 75-80 mph on the highways. Climbing steep grades he probably suffers and slows down considerably with that old tired Inline 6 (could use a rebuild I’m sure).
With those 4.88’s I’d have him run 35” tires for sure, and I suggest he does when these wear out. But not sure he’ll settle on 33’s or what… 🤷🏼‍♂️
I’m not real familiar with the suspension, haven’t installed one like it, but I do believe you are correct. I can’t say it’s a kit type I would put on if it were me, those shackle reversal drop downs are quite odd. Not an overall bad way to do it, but I’m sure it has its advantages too. I just haven’t researched it.
If I had a lot of free time I’d try to upload an overview video. And if I get a chance to I will. There’s probably extensive photos and threads on the ih8mud & other Toyota forums for that kits install. You couldn’t find any?
      Thanks for stopping by! 🙌🏻

@@AdventureTEQ Copy on gearing. 35s is where I'm heading but opting for 4:56 gearing to be happy medium on low end and eventual highway speed. That suspenion is on point for that from what I've found but was expecting more from manafre but they just sent a simple thread from IH8mud for install. Its ok...but again I'm visual. Appreciate the quick reply.
