As Dr. Davin Lim said, the Ordinary absolutely revolutionized skincare. It made amazing ingredients available to the entire world and inspired other brands to do that same. And it gives really good instructions on usage. Even if you don't like the brand's products itself, every skincare user should be grateful to them. Or else we'd be stuck shilling out $80 for a niacinamide serum, lol.

Skin care should be affordable and just as accessible for the single mom who has a tight budget or those who are not making a high end salary. The mark up on these products is extraordinary! Why shouldn't ALL people be able to look great? I'd argue it is even MORE important for people who are not in a high economic bracket to look and feel good about themselves! Just because you don't make a ton of money, it should not exclude you from being able to take good care of your skin.
I love the Ordinary! They were the first company to come out with really solid skincare with high end ingredients that was affordable for the average person. They were the first company to challenge the idea that a skincare routine needed to break the budget. I love that. I support this company because it is important to me that beauty, health and well being should be access to all and not just those who can afford extravagant prices.

@@mushy470 EXACTLY! That would be like making tylenol inaccessible because there are people who decide to take 10 instead of the 2 that is the dose on the bottle. We can not and should not restrict use of a product because there are some who don't follow instructions. MOST people do. I use many products in The Ordinary 's line without any problems at all. The ONLY side effect I've ever experienced has been improved skin!

I haven't tried the AHA+BHA mask, however I think its unfair to judge it as a 'bad' or the 'worst' product solely on the grounds that people use it wrongly, or overuse it. All of your points about using it correctly, and about it being suitable for experienced users of chemical exfoliants are mentioned on the website, and presumably on the product itself. The fact that people use it incorrectly is not a fault of the product.

I think this is more of her opinion piece in terms or best and worst, as she mentions in her description but ofc people don't read, kinda proving her point lol. Everyone's skin is different, so what works for you, may not work for her and what works for her, may not work for me. For example, AHA+BHAs really irritate my skin. They just do not work for me at all. It's better to focus on the formulation side, what's in there that can expand the amount of people who use it.

The moisturiser and the eye cream with mica in it are my favourites.
The only product I tried that I did not like AT ALL was the tranexemic acid. It pills up by itself, with any other products, and smells TERRIBLE.
The Good Molecules Dark Spot Corrector (something like that) behaves in the same manner, and also contains tranexemic acid, I believe. So it may just be how the ingredient behaves. They're both just too finicky for me, since I layer skincare.
Edit: I didn't like Inkey List's hyaluronic acid, either. It's such a tiny container, and also tends to pill up. No thx. I prefer to buy the jumbo size of Good Molecules' hyaluronic acid.
Edit2: I'd recommend trying Good Molecules' Niacinamide Toner. It gave me noticeable anti-aging results within a couple months. It. Is. Amazing!

I watched a random video a couple of years ago and fell down the skincare rabbit hole. I was determined not to spend a lot when I didn’t know what I was doing so the Ordinary was my savior and it changed my skin so much for the better. I’ve always had problematic, oily skin, and never knew how to take care of it. Lots of videos and products later I’m still a huge fan, I use their products everyday. The 30% solution blew my mind, I couldn’t believe how smooth my skin was. If used once a week or every two weeks it’s a gem. I also like their salicylic acid masque and the NMF moisturizer works great for me. The Niacinamide serum caused me new cyst before the previous one had the time to heal 🙈 I loved the 30% AHA + 2% BHA peeling solution but my skin loves acids and I always used it once a week for maximum 10 minutes. I also enjoyed the Glycolic Acid toning solution but now I’m having a hard time fitting it into my routine so I use it on my body, works quite well. Retinol in Squalene, Caffeine under eye serum and Alpha Arbutin serum were all meh, didn’t do much

So, I’ll be 30 next month and I’ve been really, really into skincare for the last 10/11 years. I’ve been doing professional acid peels for a few years, and the Peeling Solution initially freaked me out. But I was determined to give it a try, so I approached it (ridiculously) cautiously. I would honestly have never introduced it into my routine if it hadn’t been for lockdown.
I looked at my first bottle as a “throw away” bottle. My skin is dry-combination and very sensitive and reactive, so I devised a schedule that I thought would help to introduce it safely into my routine.
I do the mask once a week (every Wednesday evening) for seven and a half minutes- but I had to work up to that kind of time.
My very first week, I did two minutes. My skin passed the test- no irritation, no chemical burns, so I was good to go for week two.
The second week, I did three minutes. Again, my skin handled it well, so I continued.
I added one minute to the mask every week until I got to eight minutes, and noticed a slight tingling that told me it had hit its limit. The next week I dropped down to seven and a half minutes, and that was perfect. I had found my “sweet spot”.
Those first four weeks, I really noticed no difference in my skin at all (and I didn’t expect to see any difference) I simply viewed it as an exercise to help my skin adjust to the product. It took me about seven weeks in total to figure out exactly what worked for my skin. This was an exercise in patience, for sure. But it worked really well for me. I also moisturize very heavy on mask nights.
So it is a really fantastic product and it can be safely used, but please use extreme caution. ❤️

I love that the ordinary sells the variety of products they do! For many experienced users this is the closest we can afford to professional treatments.
It does worry me a bit that people don’t do research before putting chemicals on their face. I genuinely think there’s a bit of a trend in ‘bad skin reactions’ omg look what happened when I carelessly slapped a medical product excessively across my face.

I've been really blessed by the ordinary for 2 main reasons. The 1st is the budget Friendly aspect and the ability at a low cost to do trial-and-error to discover what works for my skin. Since I have sensitive and reactive skin, I love the simple and basic formulas after years of trying combined drugstore pproducts never knowing what ingredients are causing the reactions or acne. I too have found some of TO products are holy grails, and some I have disliked. My faves are the rosehip oil, EUK 134, argiriline, buffet copper peptides, niacinamide/zinc, arbutin in ha, resveratrol/ferulic, and ascorbic acid/arbutin. These have helped transform my oily aging sensitive acne prone skin. So grateful

I have combo skin and I struggle with PIE from old acne marks. I use the vit C as my last step before spf. My spf is also my moisturizer . This combo has done wonders for my skin tone and has really faded stubborn old acne marks. I have tried every other kind of fit C serum from really high end to vit c powders and hands down I get the best results from this one. However, it has to be mixed with something to work its magic.

The Natural Moisturizing Factors is my favorite moisturizer ever, in life. I have oily to combo brown skin, with hormonal acne from my PCOS and horrible hyperpigmentation, so I was scared of moisturizers for a long time because a lot of the ones I tired would make me break out and therefore leave dark spots that lasted for months even when they were targeted for oily skin.
All the other moisturizers I like are gel form and generally more expensive, but this is my ultimate favorite, and also the Azelaic Acid works wonders for me.
I have tried the Cleanser, the HA, the Glycolic, the Granactive Retinoid, the Niacinamide, and the Caffeine (not everything at the same time). All of them have worked and not irritated me at all, except for the glycolic when I was overusing it.

    About azelaic acid here.
In australia, this ingredient is classified as a drug so you can't get it's pure form in any cosmetic product. I've gotten my hands on the ordnary's azelaic acid and michelle's description was spot on. In australia you can get a 20% emulsion off the shelf at chemist warehouse called Azclear. It's a more superior formulation, it does have a similar issue with tackiness but with using it on top of a watery product, even something like thermal water, it becomes a beautiful cream to apply to your skin. what's great is that it's at a percentage that can be quite efficacious for people :)

The vitamin C was a Meh for me especially since it irritated my skin when I used it with Niacinamide. I used to use vitamin C in the morning and Niacinamide in the evening and I would double cleanse in the evening then use hyaluronic acid and Niacinamide, it still caused a mild irritation, so I stuck with Niacinamide 🤷‍♀️

my absolute favourite product from them is the aminoacids+b5 serum. I have dry, dehydration prone and sensitive skin and I haven't found any serum that compares to how hydrating and soothing that one is. I actually ran out a few months ago and have been using other serums since then (because I impulsively bought them to try out and want to use them before they go bad) and I really miss it. I'm definitely going back to it once I finish these serums and toners that I thought would give me similar results, but ultimately haven't.

I started out with retinoids with the ordinary, now I'm thinking I'm going to try to get some other brands to test. Thanks for that!

I had over exfoliated my face when I was using the Glycolic acid despite using it once a week and have stayed so far away from it since. I have seen multiple people recommending it for body use though so I think I’m going to give it another try on my underarms.

I use it on my underarms. Great stuff. But I also use it on my face - my skin is like boot leather!

I use it for exfoliating my legs a wee prior to shaving my hair, it's great to substitute the typical physical scrubs ;)

Apply moisturizer first, then the acid to buffer it, and use less.

Thank you SO MUCH for clarifying that I actually cannot get the red Peeling solution in Australia because I had viewed the great reviews of it on UA-cam and tried to find it for purchase. I appreciate your honesty of it's harshness and because of this I no longer want it. Thank you! X!

I've heard about you on reddit but never took the time to seek you out until now. Fantastic video. I got into skincare about 6 months ago and am very proud of my research, as all of my products were on your best list :) Except the AHA peel, but I use it once every 2 weeks or so for 5-10 mins so I think I should be ok there. Thanks for the content and I look forward to checking out a lot more of your stuff. P.S. - I also use CeraVe SA Renewing cleanser a few days a week, and am searching for a good toner.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that sees benefits from the vitamin c suspension. It's a really gross consistency but if you can get over it, it's amazing for hyperpigmentation and even a bit if a collagen boost.

I really like and appreciate your presentation in your videos. You are to the point, clear and concise. You don't waste time trying to deliver your message with cute or clever jokes. I appreciate that! And you're believable too. I feel like I want to try the things you like and not try the ones you don't because I can tell you put a lot of time and effort into your content. I'm a new subscriber!

I have oily & acne-prone skin, but The Ordinary's borage seed oil is one of my holy grail products anyways. I don't know why but it calms my skin down completely. I use it at night (and a drop in the winter when it's super dry) and when I wake up, my skin looks SO calmed down. I've tried TO's squalane and rosehip oil, but neither works as well at combatting my redness/inflammation.
The hit/miss feeling of their products is probably the most frustrating part of trying their products :')
