    The bag oil tank is the auxiliary oil tank hence AOT on the solenoid cable. This is not the main engine oil tank, as that is attached to the front of the motor. but instead adds additional oil to the main oil system, when required during the race, as oil consumption reduces the main oil volume. Hence the solenoid is there to release the oil, upon the driver's request, via a button on the steering wheel.

      I know it from other types as an "accumulator". In the type I'm familiar with, they're pressurized with air and when you need an oil boost, you can push the button to force in into the system at about 80psi.

      EL DIABLO my job is a technical motorsport journalist. I've spent many hours looking at the Manor car in the F1 pits and know ATL, the maker of the tank.

      This might be a silly question but what are the circular patches on the Kevlar for?

    The second part is, as you say, a clamped-on part to mount the lower wishbone and push rod to the upright. Although rules demand the upright is aluminium, other parts bolted to it can be made of other materials. as this is a large bulky part to space the mountings away from the upright, aluminium will be used for lightweight. it will be machined from solid rather than post-machined on a casting. the wishbone mounting is offset from the steering axis, as you can see 7.5mm etched onto the part, the offset of push rod to steering is that amount. this offset is used to help weight shift to counter roll during a corner.

    The suspension items you have there are all for the front suspension. the first clevis that you picked up, is for the upper wishbone mounting on the upright. it looks like it's probably titanium. it will have a shim between it and the upright to adjust Camber.

    The part at 13:50 is a rocker that couples the pushrod with the torsion bar spring, therefor it has the inside gearing. Thanks for the videos Peter! :)

    The oil bottom is used for transferring oil from auxiliary to the main tank ;)

    My take on the oil solenoid is that they run a short loop to warm the engine up and then switch to the full tank when it's up to temp . This is just a guess . 🤙

    Could you write a partnumber of fitting on an oil tank?
    It’s very cool - it allows you to connect / disconnect the system directly under pressure with minimal loss of oil

  • @patmadenz
    @patmadenz 6 років тому +4

    Thanks Peter! Could it be that the solenoid on the Oil tank is to control how much and when they can burn oil to gain an edge?

    • @GordonjSmith1
      @GordonjSmith1 6 років тому +1

      Oddly enough that was my thought, with the solenoid being driven by the emu. But that wouldn't really account for the oil button on the steering wheel would it? Would love to know the answer.

    • @sporkeh90
      @sporkeh90 6 років тому +4

      The oil button on the steering wheel is to pump oil from a reserve tank to the main tank as the oil gets burnt during the race. The driver is told to do it by the pit (they used to be able to do it from the pits). The "oil bomb" you guys are referring to is totally managed by the ECU, and as far as I know its only activated in Max (qualifying) engine mode, or by the Overtake (OT) button depending on the engine manufacturer.

  • @ZelosZelo
    @ZelosZelo 6 років тому

    i bet the oil button is to prime oil around before start, and thats probably an outlet, return and air (vent) connection. just guessing though

    Hi a great technical channel, keep up the good work. The solenoid could act like a non return valve, to stop the oil draining out of the tank when the engine is off, the old British motor cycles had these to stop the oil draining back to the sump?

    The nut at the bottom of the Brimbo tank, looks to be for a wire tie. (in other none captured nut installs)

    They inject oil into combustion chamber. Special "oil" that creates more power. Think it's banned now.
