Edvaldo Batista de Sá Yes he is avant garde! Yes he was ahead of his time and has calmed down a lot.The problem was none of those designs were wearable except on the runway. Possibly for the movies This show was costly and ñot productive. Fashion IS boring now compared to this but no one can afford this.

    • @Darima2

Edvaldo Batista de Sáso true. I feel like whoever designed the Hunger Games movies costumes was heavily inspired by this. So many of the looks and vibe reminded me of it.

I can see the designs for red carpet events, or for dinner parties (rich people obviously). But really, like any mayor fashion designers, this kind of fashion is for very rich people, or famous (very lucky) individuals.

@@Consrignrant I think that there is a happy medium, to be had, between the two! I get it, designers want thin models so their clothing hangs on them, but I've seen plenty of models who are too thin! Incredibly precise tailoring, strong feminine lines, perfect tolerances within the construction of these masterpieces, impeccable accentuation on the silhouettes, ingenious hat geometries, luscious fabric textures, brilliant colour pallet combinations. I can go on and on ...now THIS is true couture. So much of what we see in the couture collections of today are quite mundane, unimpressive and almost disappointing when compared to the talents and creations of the mid 90's. The designers of this period, specifically; Mugler, Galliano, Gaultier, Lagerfeld and Valentino - ALL are unequivocal geniuses of their craft, with creative visions that were ridiculously ahead of their time. Indeed, such inspiring and amazing talent!

In the interview Jerry Hall said she loved the dress so much she planned to buy it. Her fake eyelashes looked gorgeous!
Now I found this video by sheer coincidence and I am happy to be able to see the whole show.
I'm mind-blown. This is more fascinating and capturing than the last action movie i saw. I will definitely watch it again!

    • @garyonbroadway1919

I've been in this business for 35 years; of the very few designers of women's couture who ventured into menswear (most with hideous clown-wear that no one bought), I can attest that your astute observation of the fine line between too abstract and timeless is right on the money. Along with Monsieur Mugler, only Helmut Lang, Tom Ford, and John Galliano (IMO) delved into high fashion for men, avoiding the trendy gimmickry their peers could not. How? They were as hands-on with the same passion and attention to detail. Most other big names hired ghost designers and slapped their label on lesser quality "costumes."
Then again, most American men associate "fashion" with (fill in the derogatory adjective.) The result is "stiffs in suits," or Big Box Store high style (aka, Oxymoron Fashion.) Even veteran name-brand labels (Hugo Boss, for one) who have been successful with separate design teams for each line are resorting to "leisure luxury," which translates into $400 sweat pants for men. Good luck with that!

Some of them are ripped and workout (yoga, Pilates, ballet) but pumping iron? Very rarely. It's there presence that lends a pumped look. But they are not bodybuilders.
