I am only at 22 minutes and this is the best model engineering video I have ever seen! Your commentary is a serious attribute to the video! Other commentaries of video’s are frequently babblers of foolishness demonstrating they actually have no clue what they are looking at. You are not only knowledgeable but your obvious relationship with many at the show add a certain authenticity and value to the video! Great work! I’m being educated, not just entertained!
Fabulous workmanship, the age demographic of those capable of this is evidenced by the fact that your meeting some of the oldest people in the country and quite possibly some of the last people that can manage to produce this standard of work at home. I'm never regretted model making as a hobby. It's been a constant in my life for the last 60 years..
Model engineering is such a beautiful art. Marvelous mechanical models, powered by steam, gas, or electricity to mimic their massive grandfathers. Pistons, wheels, cranks, gears, clockwork, and so much more! It's an art worth studying :) ⚙️🕰️🚂
This a dedicated hobby...need Eng ...experience years of knowledge....these pieces take time to make...to source the material ....very intresting ..i hope their sons will be able to continue with this..
It would be an amazing addition to you video if you included a list of the modellers and their contacts and any resources available from the booths, i.e. catalogues, plans or kits available or a link to the show that might have that list. I know that would be quite a task to compile if the show doesn’t provide it. I love your video and would love to go to one of these shows some day. There isn’t anything like this in Canada that I am aware of. Thank you so much for posting this. It is a dream motivator for me!
Take on a simple project, first. Also, Attend Cabin Fever Expo January 13-14, 2023 in Lebanon PA in the Expo Center. Lots of great model engineers/machinists/toolmakers most of whom are happy to share good tips and advice with you. Hope to see you there!
I have myself a wilesco d24 but it seems childish compared to these. Where would one be able to purchase a kit or model? Specifically the g gauge steam one? And it’s a great video by the way.
@@reddrryder Apologies, there was so much to see, I must have missed it, I’ll have another look. All of the exhibits were works of art, makes my attempts look pathetic. Cheers Noel
Most of these people their spouse or kids will never worry about where they are. Instead of drinking or drugging or any other vice. You will find them with their second love after family.
Gil, I was there in Jan. 2020. I wish you would settle down on your subject engine and count to 7 or 10 so we could actually look at it. love your subject but your videos are hard to watch because of the constant movement we never get to study the engine.
Some of these machines can be purchased , like the Steam and Stirling engines , Also kits are available for you to build yourself , Or get plans and machine the parts yourself I prefer all ways
@@amanofmanyparts9120 You can and should search for Snow Tandem on my channel and you will find the same model in different metals and identical and running. You will also find the original 600 hp Snow that was measured and shrink to create the model.
@@reddrryder Thanks. I'll do that. I only wish I had the engineering talent to make one myself, but I've only bought, ready made, all the small engines in my small collection of steam toys. Of course I've got a 1:10 scale road engine (Markie) and a similar 3" Aveling & Porter (Maxitrak)! When the pandemic settles down to a simmer I intend to 'do the circuit' of steam rallies within 250 miles of my UK home and show them off. I might even get the 3" registered for full road use!
You witnessed no jump starts. The cam stops after it fires and doesn't turn again until the engine needs to fire again. This system regulates the engine more accurately than a human hand could.
Gee whizz.! All this from a person who joined UA-cam 6 years ago and has posted no videos ever and has -0- subscribers. I am not aiming for critical acclaim. I provide video footage of working displays in a 75,000 sq ft exhibition venue with over 300 exhibitors and thousands of people milling around. I manage to get out and take a lot of short clips, all while operating and maintaining my own displays with 10-15 working running engines for the entire weekend. I do this so you can enjoy a slice of our hobby if you could not attend. So yes, some of my camera work may be shaky. It is much worse looking before I spend many hours editing. If you don't enjoy this, I would prefer you just say thank you and move on or say nothing and move on. Thanks for watching, RedRyder

I do post as a different user. I also think you should do some research on how to make a good video. It would be a lot more enjoyable to watch if the camera is held steady.
Every time I visit a display or museum of this nature I an saddened by the observation that the participants are mostly older men. I see very few childern and almost no women. There appears to be no next generation for this hobby. I attend as many of these shows as I can. I also visit the steam railroad museums from Maine 2 foot gauge to the full size train museums. I enjoy all of them but I am just another old guy amazed at the skill required to build and run these.
You should know that most of the mechanical marvels you see at these shows are hand built by the highly skilled model engineers who display them. It is difficult to put a realistic price on any of these machines given the skills and the very high number of hours required to create one. Some of these machines have thousands of hours put into them. It isn't about the price.
I want to purchase such a wonderful 10 HP steam engine. I want to generate electricity by this steam engine. Can someone will build a steam engine for me ? I am from India.
