    As the narrative goes, fat is bad. Well, it's actually more nuanced than that. The type of fat you eat is more impactful on your health than the quantity. George Zaidan examines triglycerides, the varied molecules that make up fat, and how to identify which types of fat you are consuming.
    Lesson by George Zaidan, animation by Igor Coric.

      thats probably because they dumbed it down a whole lot and tried to stay as simple as possible with the whole "good and bad thing". basically we need both saturated and unsaturated fats to an extant but in some circumbstances (that are becomming more and more common with nowadays) saturated fats can be more harmful than unsaturated. they just chose to keep it less complex than the real world, like schools also do. im pretty tired that you have to go to alternative education to get real information, that isnt too distorted with simplicity.

    Awesome video! It's really accurate!
    **There could have been some details describing how the shape of the fat determines it's phase; solid or liquid. Since saturated fats have no double bonds (thus no "kinks"), they can pack their fatty acid tails on top of each other more neatly and thus most of them are solids at room temp. However, the double bonds in unsaturated fats make "kinks" which interfere with the packing of fatty acid tails, thus most unsaturated fats are liquid at room temp.

  • @bouncingbeebles
    @bouncingbeebles 3 роки тому +2

    There is an overwhelming body of evidence that fails to establish that saturated fatty acids are bad for us. On the other hand, polyunsaturated fatty acids are prone to oxidation, and oxidized molecules inside your body can trigger many different kinds of chronic disease. Trans-fats are especially prone to oxidation, which is why they are appropriately labelled as 'bad' but in fact no polyunsaturated fats are immune to oxidation. Any polyunsaturated oils will oxidise over time, and cooking them, particularly at high temperatures, will intensify oxidation.

      For your statement to be valid dropping carbs must be the only independent variable. The fact that you consciously made the decision to do so means you want to lose weight. Chances are when you want to lose weight you don't only change one thing in your diet. I don't know exactly what you did but the logical assumption is that dieting people would tend to exercise more and lean towards foods and ingredients that are "healthier": things with less calories, sodium, sugar, etc.

    • @williefleete
      @williefleete 8 років тому

      flameeagle123
      not necessarily, I dropped most carb loaded stuff and still mostly sat on my arse (taking stairs and walking every so and often) and lost more weight doing that than the traditional (carb heavy) diet and exercising.

    • @crzykd1305
      @crzykd1305 8 років тому +2

      +flameeagle123 studies have been done and carbs are the main thing to cut down on when losing weight, look up Mark Haub and the convenience store diet, to prove a point to colleagues and for the sake of a study he took up a junk food diet, to prove that so long as he avoided carbs he would lose weight, and he did. It ofc ignores the other ill effects this could have on your body, but as far as weight loss goes, carbs are what you want to control.

    • @sketchsama
      @sketchsama 8 років тому +1

      When it comes to losing weight, it all comes down to a calorie deficiency. Carbs are great to control because while they are a great source of energy, they aren't needed the same way you need fats and protein. That doesn't mean you should drop carbs from your diet. Nowadays, people eat multiple times the amount of protein their body needs, way too much carbs and not enough healthy fats. Eating too much carbs, fat or protein still has
      consequences that come with it. I believe that, when it comes down to your overall health, a healthy balance is needed.

      I agree, this guy probably made it easier for people who don't study biochemistry, biology, or chemistry. It's about moderations. Saturated fat is useful since they are harder to break, but in the modern day, food is very available for lots of us, so we don't have to worry about keeping food in our body that slowly releases energy for a long time. We eat a lot, and we don't want to look fat or be fat, so nowadays, unlike humans from thousands years ago, we want faster energy that uses up and is gone fast, and we eat more often (sugar, starch, carbohydrates).

    OR OR OR, you can stop buying pancake mix and make our own. pancake mix is mostly what? just plain flour (cheap) and a bit of baking powder. Add an egg and only some palm oil.

      +Black Boy Plant based saturated fats are healthier for you than Animal based saturated fats. The fatty acids palmitic and stearic (found in animals) increase LDL's (low density lipoprotein) while Lauric and Myristic acid (found in Plants) increase total cholesterol but is predominantly HDL (High density lipoprotein) the healthier cholesterol.

      +Cassandra McLean It is actually healthy for you. A short explnation would be that it's chain is short thus get readily absorbed by the body in wich the energy is used right away. So saying that you are doing an activity would mean that the fat is not stored. There are other reasons as to why it is good. Try researching legitimate scientific based websites or books.

  • @Zetsuke4

    I already knew everything in this video, and EXACTLY, it's not how much fat you eat, it's what type of fat. Unsaturated C=C bonds (C double bond C) are easier to break (such as when you exercise) than saturated C-C bonds (C single bond C). Exact same concept as calories, it's not how much calories you consume, in fact, calorie is a unit of ENERGY. Foods may contain varying masses, varying calories, but it also depends on what nutrients it contain, such as eating smaller amount with less calories may have higher carbohydrates and saturated fat content than an alternative.

    To short a video to cover the topic. Touches on some aspects, like the "length" of the fatty acid molecule, but goes nowhere from there. Makes some claims that are at best controversial, given more recent research. All saturated fat is bad - in excess? What about unsaturated fat in excess? Which is worse if consumed in moderation? What about using either for cooking? What about the difference in mono-unsaturated fat and poly-unsatured fat?

    • @cavadiskenderov3043

    • @giannisniper96

      it's not controversial, the lower melting point and higher tendecy to pack together make saturated fats worse than unsaturated fats, that's simple

    Olive oil is mono-saturated fat. And like all oil it will oxidise in the body into free radicals and cause inflammation. So technically all oils are bad to consume especially when it comes in contact with heat. This video fail to talk about how heat changes the properties of things.

    Olive oil is also not eaten directly from the bottle like lemonade, it comes in indirectly, through the food made in it. I always bask everything in a generous dollop of olive oil when i fry.
