      It’s annoying BUT, what I currently do is use the notes app to type up my entry for the day from my Mac and then just open my phone…. Open notes…double tap…. Select all…copy….and then paste to the journal app…. And then take my photo for the day. Yes it’s a little extra but it gets the job done for the moment. I’d much much much rather journal from a keyboard. Sometimes Dictation gets a word wrong and breaks my focus so it doesn’t feel as natural. But that’s me lol

      Apple has a tendency to test-drive new apps on the iPhone 📱 and then migrate them to the iPad 📲 or the computer 💻 in the next operating system updates. So, I wouldn't be surprised to find "Journal" on all of your devices later this year. 🗓️

    • @TheMacWhisperer

      I hear you, but I've really perfected the art of dictation, so I can get an enormous amount accomplished and captured without using my fingers at all. In fact, this entire post was done with dictation... which I can do on my computer, iPad, phone, or watch. 📱⌚
      Spending a little bit of time getting your dictation more accurate will pay dividends in the long run. 💡
      Yes, it's true that it's an imperfect way of putting info in... but the more you use it and the more you practice it, the better you'll get and the more accurate it will be. 📈
      Your workaround sounds great, but a little time-consuming... ⏳

    I just wanted to say how much I loved the tutorial! I've been using the journal since December 1, and it’s been such a great experience. The interface is super user-friendly, which makes it easy for someone like me who loves to keep journals for personal growth.
    I have a little suggestion, too! Instead of printing out your journal, maybe you could save it as a PDF. It’s a great way to save paper while still having the convenience of a book format.
    Thanks again for being such an awesome instructor!

      I really enjoyed researching the journal app and learning how to use it. But my favorite piece is not the bookmarks; it's the ability to use hashtags inside of the journal entries to categorize all sorts of different topics. I've used tons of third-party apps over the years, but as Apple refines and improves their stock apps, it gives additional functionality because every app talks to every other app seamlessly. 📱 I never really loved Day One, but I found the Journal app (especially with the hashtag solution) to solve multiple problems at once with ease. 📝 Thanks for watching, and thanks for the comment! 🙌

    Do the photos that you put in the journal stay there if I would transfer them to My back up and remove them from my phone?

    • @TheMacWhisperer
      @TheMacWhisperer  17 днів тому +1

      Yes, the photos are copied into the journal, and once you have added them, you can remove them from your phone or other devices without worry. That being said, I'm not a big fan of deleting photos from my photo library... my photo library is synchronized across all of my Apple devices and houses over 70,000 pictures and videos, and I don't see any reason to delete photos unless I really really don't want them.
      If you are adding a photo to the journal that you don't want to keep, take the photo directly from the journal app rather than adding it from your photo library. That way you won't have to delete it later because it only exists in the journal app.

    I gathered the photos have to be on iCloud. And if you keep so many photos on your iCloud, you have to buy more storage. Is there another solution? Can you print out the journals? Can you search on the journals for certain words?

    • @TheMacWhisperer
      @TheMacWhisperer  17 днів тому

      The photos don't have to be on iCloud, they just have to be somewhere accessible on your phone.
      I keep 70,000 pictures on my phone, and find iCloud to be an affordable and efficient way to manage them. A lot of people complain about the iCloud prices, but they are cutting off their nose to spite their face. Even if you are paying for the 2TB amount of $10/month, it is still less than Dropbox or other cloud storage providers offer... And most people will find that the $3/month (=$36/year) 200GB iCloud plan gives them plenty of storage space to grow.
      And yes, you can print out the journals and search them for any specific words.

      If you create separate entries and use the hashtag to sort them, you can search for that hashtag and then print all of the results into a PDF that you can share. 📄 That being said, in many cases, I think the Notes app is a better fit for large pieces of information like that and may be a better place for you to focus your attention. 📝 The Notes app is easy to synchronize, easy to share, and easy to print. 🌐

      I'm sure that Apple will eventually port the journal app over to the computer and the iPad. 🖥️📱 It will probably happen later this year... Once it does, in true Apple fashion, everything will synchronize across all of your devices. 🔄 A lot of people want to wait until they have access to it on a larger device because of how difficult it is to type on the iPhone, but if you learn how to do dictation, it is an easy thing to handle from the palm of your hands. 🗣️✋
      Also, if you happen to have a Mac computer running the latest operating system (macOS 15 Sequoia), you can use the iPhone mirroring app to type from your computer directly into the journal app. 💻📲
      That being said, if you sit tight, I'm sure it will find its way to the iPad before too long! ⏳📅

      I hear you. My assumption is that it will make its way to the computer 💻 and the iPad 📱 in the next operating system later this year. Apple 🍏 test-drives a lot of programs on the phone 📞 and then migrates them to other devices once they've worked out the kinks.
      Just a side note, What is the reason you'll wait to do it on your Mac? 🤔 Is it because you don't like typing on the phone? 📱

    Would be great with these two things:
    #1. Export to Markdown notes, so the entries can be exported to another tool whenever needed. This way, they are locked in kind of a jail with printing as the only way to get them out of this black box.
    #2. Mac and iPad version missing. While it is convenient to enter journal entries on the iPhone, any kind of review is quite cumbersome. Especially if it is used like based on Dylan's great suggestion to journal book readings etc.
    The concept and supported entering is really great, but it is not ready for serious use yet without the 2 points above.

    • @TheMacWhisperer
      @TheMacWhisperer  16 днів тому +1

      You are completely correct. ✅ It definitely needs a way to export out of the journal app as a CSV, markdown, or something else. 📄 I can see that happening. 👀

    You have to do a vid on using Journal for Stocks, Bonds and ETF notation and tracking, linking up with Apple's Stock app. Copy and paste articles, tips. vids etc. as I buy and sell.
    Why isn't Journal also on Mac and iPad? Not crazy about finger typing onto my iPhone when keyboarding in stuff makes more sense?

      That's a great idea! 🤔 I'm sure it's doable, but personally, I would probably use Notes instead of the Journal app for that. The Journal app isn't really made for copying and pasting all those articles, tips, and videos, but Notes is. 📝
      And Notes exists on the Mac and the iPad as well. 💻📱
      I'm sure the Journal will make its way to the Mac and iPad later this year, but in the interim, rather than finger typing, consider dictation, which makes everything easier. 🎤

      Not sure but isn’t most of what you showed in the video and definitely your 5 power tips been done using apple notes? Definitely more hand written capabilities and markup!
      Hash tags already in notes
      Search already in notes
      And now with 18.2 highlights
      To just name a few
      And with a lil forethought I’m sure a table could easily be used to tally your moods
      Even math capabilities all within notes
      I’m just not sold yet on the journal app
      Also it’s not on iPad or desktop as of this writing
