Rich gives the most clear and economical presentations of anyone I know in the pod cast field. He has a magnetic personality that you are immediately drawn to. He is organized and to the point. I wish all the you tube talking heads could adopt his winsome ways….
Wow. Thanks so much for the kind words. My main goal is just to provide some helpful information to folks who might need it. My wife would probably dispute the word "winsome" though. But I like it!
I’ve watched many videos about using Reminders but this is the first time I’ve actually realized how reminders works. I don’t know why lol. Thank you so much.
I like your organization skills. Now you can see move edit and create reminders in the calendar app. Scheduling is as easy as drag and drop to assign due dates and times or make it an all day reminder. Give it a try.
I have created an hobby inventory list. It helps me keep track of things that I purchased and want to keep track of. It also helps me figure out what project I want to start next.
Good info, Rich! I use reminders similar to this. I also have several lists that are shared between my wife and myself. The most used shared list is for groceries. We can each add items to the list and we can both see the items when one of us goes to the grocery store. Put the items in your cart, mark them as completed and they are moved to the completed list. Very handy!
When you share your grocery list with your wife, are changes either of you make automatically shown on the other person’s phone? I love that idea of sharing grocery lists! TIA
@@jeffreyurbach6544I have this as well and yes they are automatically synched. In fact my wife frequently adds to the list when I am shopping and she realizes that she forgot something. It pops into the list while I am in the store so avoids phone calls or text messages on things that either may have forgotten.
Thanks Rich for a very helpful way of using Apple Reminders. It’s a simple yet powerful way to sort tasks each day. Keep planning and recording more like this.
Great video. I use reminders, but have not organized as well as you, since I keep a journal and put a to Dos there. Think I’ll adopt some of your methods. Apple has really made these more useful with calendar integration, etc.
Hi Rich! You certainly are organized and very clever. I liked that you scheduled your “date night.” Good idea to have Siri remind you. I picked up a lot of tips from your video. I appreciate your videos; they are learning videos. Thanks. Kindness, Teresa
Hi Teresa! Nice to hear from you. I hope you're doing well. It's not like I'd "forget" date night or anything...well, maybe. Better to create a Reminder!
I find it helpful to create reminder lists and calendars that are in similar categories and name them the same. Ex: Home, Medical, Exercise, etc. I make them matching colors.
You do a fantastic job with your videos. I have learned so much with your simple and easy to follow explanations. I do have a quick question. When you go through and add all the reminders for each day of the week, would it be easier to just put them in your calendar? Seems like you’re doing double the work?
I’m still trying to understand “reminders”. Your video helped but I’m in habit of putting everything in my “calendar”. Work in progress for me. Thanks for lesson.
Nice video; maybe consider a follow-up video showing more of the features. Reminders has become a powerhouse of features, which can confuse new users. What about recurring tasks? That's something Reminders handles really well. Thanks!
Another great job, don’t change your style. My question is if you no longer keep your Home Depot, Costco, etc lists in Reminders, did you move them to Notes? Do you have reminders that you want to be reminded of daily, weekly, monthly etc. where do they go?
Hi Rich, how do you deal with birthdays and anniversaries. I do this is reminders and have a Smartlist for these and use labels. Do you use reminders or calendar?
Love your videos. How do you get the full size keyboard to come up on your iPad? All I ever get is the mini keyboard. I have a iPad Air 5th generation running Sequoia.
A while ago you presented an excellent Reminders video using the PARA method and I immediately implemented it. My question…How did you transfer that organizational method to this new format? I use Seri a lot on my watch to put things into reminders on a certain day or something that I need to get at Lowe’s and never have to go back and schedule it in because I am never sure when I will be in that location. I am always very excited to learn a more efficient method, but transitioning over from PARA to this new FOCUS AREA method is a piece that would be helpful if you could produce a video as to how you accomplished that.
Ha! I still use the PARA method too. But I use it in the Notes app. I found I created too many lists in Reminders with PARA and decided to simplify the mess I'd made. If PARA is working for you then stick with it. If it's getting a little messy them this framework might work better. Thanks so much for watching!
I like watching your videos and do find many of them helpful. In this specific video you never really showed what the app looked like. Could you please show that so I can make sure I have the correct app? What I have when I open it looks nothing like yours. Thank you!
I don't use Android phones so I'm not sure. But my guess is there's something similar. The Android phones I've seen are great. Thanks so much for watching!
Saturday, January 18, 2025 Q; Around time code 5 you give tip on using your iPhone with Siri to add an item to reminders. Are you on Home Screen? You press the right side button, when I do that my phone locks and goes blank, what is your button set up to?
It might depend on which iPhone you have. I'm using the iPhone 16 in this video. You can always just say "Hey Siri" and then log the reminder. I didn't do that in this video because I didn't want to trigger Siri all over the world! Thanks so much for watching!
Sorry it wasn't clear for you. It's crystal clear on my end. I do film in dark mode though because light mode just washes out and it looks bad. Thanks so much for watching!
Talk about keeping things simple you thoroughly complicated the process I see nothing useful here whatsoever except having my phone handy to speak a reminder that’s it no focus grouping no days of the week if I did all that stuff you did I wouldn’t get anything done I do believe keeping it simple but for me this is not simple . Sorry to be so blunt but it’s just my point of view That remember shortcut that you did a video on has helped me to do just that “ keeping it simple” Have a great day
Sorry this video wasn't for you. Over the years, I've learned that people relate to many different ways to do the same thing. So I try to keep different and fresh ideas before folks who watch the channel. Some viewer like the "Remember This" shortcut, others like the PARA method and still others like the way I covered things in this video. Different strokes I guess. Anyway, I do appreciate you watching and commenting.
Sorry, but this has to be the dumbest recommendations. As an attorney I expected a bit more organization. Let me explain. You are not exploiting the fact that you can assign a date and time to reminders. Perhaps you talk about shared reminders, but I gave up around the 60% mark. I share reminders with my wife, mostly shopping lists for the various grocery stores. This is the most expedient way to identify what we each think we need individually. I also created a shortcut on my MAC which allows me to easily snip an item from a grocery store website, etc. and automatically place it in the appropriate reminder. I also use templates. Again, perhaps you discuss these after the 60% time line mark, but I simply gave up. You are doing double work by not exploiting date time stamps and initially placing the reminder in the appropriate list. It doesn't matter how many lists you have, because you can easily see why is coming do with the calendar integration, well that makes things even more streamlined. I am a retired engineer and this is how I think, focused and to the point. Sorry again if I am being rude, but really, all you have done is keep your paper checklist model and use reminders as a replacement instead of exploiting the power of reminders.
Sorry this video wasn't for you. I've actually made a video describing your method as well as other videos covering different methods. I've learned that one-size doesn't fit all. Software engineers often create a multitude of paths to the same outcome knowing that end-users use different methods of thinking when tackling tasks. Even within the particular context of this video you'll see many who this method resonated with while others chose a different path. Visual acuity and cues play a key metric in the success of one method over another. In other words Apple provides a variety of different ways to accomplish the same task. You found this method cumbersome while others found it delightful. Regardless, thanks for watching!
@@RichBowlin Interesting reply. I am a retired engineer with over 20 software patents. Software can do anything within the limits of the hardware that hosts it. Apple has done with Unix what AT&T Bell Labs couldn't. Apple made UNIX friendly and calls it MAC OS. MAC OS/IOS is user friendly with the ability to enhance processes. Apple created an organic environment. Just mechanizing what is done on paper is not progressive. Exploiting the software capabilities, via AI etc. is the payoff. Good luck with your channel. Oh, and the best attorneys ? Patent ones, not ambulance chasers.
Your videos are good, but not this one. Please, when you show how to drag tasks to your list STOP after about two. Do not keep dragging things over to one list after another. Thanks. AD2

Thank you Rich for another great informative video.
Glad you're enjoying the videos!

Sure wish I could see the way you do that. I have a lot of hobbies
Great tips! I use Reminders a lot, but now I see I haven’t been doing but a fraction of what it can do.
Thanks! It's pretty powerful isn't it?
I always learn something useful and simple from your videos!
Awesome, thank you!

If calendar works for you then stick to it! This is just a way to do things using Reminders.

Rich, please do a "Voice Memo" video for us seniors.
Reminders now also are linked to the calendar app and appear in that as well.

Does (or can) the approach for using Reminders result in those tasks showing in the Calendar app?
Good question
Yes as of the latest iOS update. See above
Yes if you are using the latest update of IOS. That was a new feature added. You can now see, add, and modify reminders in the calendar.
I really enjoy your videos. I use the reminder app for groceries. What do you use for your grocery list? Thanks
I use a grocery list too. It's shared with my wife on my "non-UA-cam" iPhone.
Thanks (Great video)👍
Hi Rich, how do you deal with birthdays and anniversaries. I do this is reminders and have a Smartlist for these and use labels. Do you use reminders or calendar?
What are the main advantages of doing this as opposed to just setting reminders in the calendar?
Sorry, one more question. Siri puts your reminders in In Box. She puts mine in Reminders. Is it as simple as changing the name of the folder?
That is in Settings >> Apps >> Reminders >> Default List
@ Thank you

I’ll definitely give it a try! I’m not going to try to recreate the wheel when there is an excellent one out there!
Links to some calenders if reminder has a specific date time?
Yep, Reminders now show up on your calendar. I didn't get into that here but will be covering it in much greater detail soon.

So glad to see “change the oil” is in the correct category 😂
Well, it is something I do for my wife...so that kind of counts. At least to me!
@ I had to laugh. I should have taken that advice.
Thanks, glad it works for you. I just use the calendar to enter tasks and a spreadsheet GANTT chart for larger projects, totally bypassing reminders
Is there a similar Android method?
