Without golds, this tank is hateful. It has neither shell penetration or turret armor to take advantage of hulldown... Not being a gold player, I never play with it because I don't find pleasure in it.
With gold it can't even do damage from long distances because the accuracy is bad and the penetration dropoff is HUGE.
needs alot of gold but accuracy OK if you aim
Imho its better than tier x patton. On m46 i have 2550dpg and on m48 slightly over 2300. I just cant stand tier x top speed of 45km/h
M46 will still always be one of my favorites
While marking it I genuinely loved it through 0-91%. In the last 4 percents i got sick of it. Whole operation took me 125 battles. One of the first 3moes :D
I've been at 92%-90% for months in this tank it's infuriating

This thing now is extremely easy to mark. Same go for pretty much all tier 9 techtree tanks, except Vz.51 & AMX 51.
M46 Patton is no longer a good tank and it requires full gold spam or close to.
The tank has no armor, no camo, average speed and pretty bad gun practically. 0.4 base dispersion and poor penetration make your gun stability and DPM irrelevant.
A tank that don't allow you to brawl or snipe effectively will not give you good gaming experience. So no surprise at all when people don't play with it.
I was farming this line about a year ago, and had similar feeling about tier IX. I liked Pershing and like tier X patton, but there is something odd going on with this one. I kinda trusted the gun more than i should, same as skill on the vid :P
well...i feel that Pershing is actually the weakest one out of the three.

M46 was by far my favorite tank from 2014 to 2019 or so. The first problem was that camo was significantly nerfed when tank was remade into HD with inflated turret, and despite old turret returned, camo remained likely worse than E50, Type61 or Cent7 for years and it was no longer possible to outspot almost everything. Then it received only small accuracy buffs. Like 0.42 to 0.41 to 0.39. It used to have best DPM at the tier, 48 top speed was decent and gun handling was the best at the tier as well.
But something happened. Every other tank got gun handling buff (mediums and heavies), some had DPM buff, nearly all mediums and heavies had armor buff, weakspots removed and so on. While Patton is still above average, it's not unique anymore. It can't support heavies cause it can't penetrate enemy heavies or armored TDs even with what became the standard ammo (and not the cheap blanks). Back in 2014 you saw tortoise, you loaded 265 pen apcrs and problem was solved. Competition was horrible type61, centurion with 40kmh top speed, leoPTArd with 9s reload and no gun depression, lorraine. T-54 could have been penned into turret with apcrs. E50 was the problem because it was as good, it traded minimizing exposure for having armor. And both Patton and E50 have huuuuge penetration drop with distance.
I swear Skill just gets good teams every game. With me every team is down 4 tanks before I even see an enemy tank
I still remember the relief and joy of playing with m46 after that pile of kaku called pershing. Last time I played M46 I realized right away that it was outdated. Then I never played again because I didn't want to spoil my sweet memories with it. I will always remember you as the king you were M46! o7
Pershing was top of the tech tree for US mediums back in Beta... back when WG said TD's will max at t8, arty at t4, meds at t9 and only heavies would be t10. Haha

As one of the few tanks i personally 3 marked i find this vehicle lacking in pen and mobility but excellent in high intensity combat
Great gun handling paired with a pretty good reload and sometimes trolly armor allows for peak aggression and ability to adapt
My big difference to skill though is i run vert stabs instead of the accuracy buff to amp up the already good moving accuracy
Funny coincidence, just yesterday I played the m46 patton after not playing for well over 5 years. Only played 3 games (2 loss, 1 win) and from those 3 games I realized how much this tank struggles if it's not top tier and even then you'd have to play against bad players in order to get good games. It definitely needs more pen considering there are tier 8 mediums with more pen (its okay t54, I hear your cries too) so hopefully it at least gets the extra pen in the future. All in all I don't see myself playing it that much and I'll most likely play the t54 as well although I will have to rebuy it.
I feel like you can't call the gun handling bad when you dont use a vert stab on it.
Haven’t played it in so long, such a comfy tank. It’s like playing the E5, you won’t be the best at anything, but it feels good to play
Had more than 400 games on Patton in 2013-2014 with ~3000 av.damage. I was average tanki enjoyer, i liked to squeeze all fun from the tank i found interesting to play. It was fun sometimes, but after last 50-100 games i realized that i hate this gun with all my heart, as the whole tank itself. It has no gun handling, no penetration, no armor and no good speed. The only things it had- gun depression and view range, and sometimes DPM. Instantly forgot about it after buing E-50.

Skill, Patton was never good tank, but it was always tank which gives you a lot of fun. I have more than 800 battles on Patton M46 and I still love it. It has not armour, speed is average, gun handling is average, penetration sucks etc, but it still gives a lot of fun.

TIER 9 PATTON WITH THE DERP GUN
M46 is the reason why I haven't bought the tier X M48 yet.
I grinded Pershing painfully, but I know that it's one of the most outdated tank in WoT and the pain was expected. However, Pattons were (used to) known for good stabilization and gun handling in general so I have decent expectation for it. I didn't expect that the gun handling is actually terrible -- snapshot or fully aimed doesn't matter, it will miss especially during important shots.
Couple that with it sitting in the awkward spot of having some armor but not enough to be reliable but fat enough to make it slow, so you don't have a lot of time to expose your gun and not fast enough to relocate all the time or take super important early areas. It is just not good enough at anything.
If you want to play fat medium that is actually good, get E50. If you want to utilize gun and camo better, get PT A or standard B. If you want a hulldown medium, get UDES (fun story: for some reason the gun of tier 9 UDES were pretty nice to me even though it has a reputation of being terrible). If you want actual all rounder, soviets are much better. Yes, I know that a lot of people said that the tier X has much better handling, but after the pain of playing Pershing and M46 I need some break before I touch US meds again.
I actually liked the Pershing and I have 60% WR on it shooting only AP's. The 46 Patton is such a let down though if you don't want to spam gold, I only managed to get a 46% WR on it so I was actually quite afraid of what the M48 would be like but I am actually doing quite well in it with a 57% WR mostly shooting standard rounds. The 46 needs a buff to it's penetration and turret armour quite badly I am afraid. It is getting outcompeted so hard in tier 9!
The T9 patton is actually really good if you use improved aiming, rammer and vents. Can even swap the vents for turbo, but its stupid accurate.
I swear the tier x patton is another level when it comes to gun handling! They say m46 is good only because of the trauma they experienced with the pershing. But 48 patton... yes, it is fat, yes, it is slow, and yes, it is master of nothing, but when it comes to gun performance... fatton is really, but really something else, I promise!

I don`t understand why people hate Pershing so much right now. Is it so outdated and nerfed? In 2013-2014 Persh was one of my favorite tanks - ~400 battles with 60-65% winrate. There was not so many light tanks and spotters at that times, so 8 lvl medium tank with 400 m view range and really armored turret, and APCR penetrated 240 mm was insane. Playing Patton with turret made of paper after Pershing was painfull. Heard that there was some kind of Pershing`s armor nerf, but is it really so bad right now?

I dont think the M46 Patton holds up to the reputation it had. I three marked it a couple of years ago and it felt fine. I took it out for about 10 games a week ago and it feels meh at best. WG just introduced so many tanks that do better than the Patton, some of them even feel better at tier 8. Its to bad, I really enjoyed it.
I have good crew in this tank and gun handling is good with gold ammo for me. I run turbo and have had good luck with it. But it’s not up to date with the tanks in the game now!! Thanks Skill

@@rikyoh130 but VStab doesn`t affect shells dispertion in the crosshair cyrcle, when thank is standing still and fully aimed. Even fully aimed Patton`s gun sends shells anywhere, bot not to your target :(
Agree with you, VStab is a necessary tool.
You need Vstab the same as M48 Patton. The guns are amazing with Vstab and Kaku without.
Idk why so many people are crying about patton, i actually prefer it over something like an e50
3 marked it in 140 games, barely shot any gold and ran improved aiming, vents and rammer.
The improved aiming makes all the difference on this tank, you dont need vStabs because the soft stats on the tank are great, but the accuracy is bad, once you get the aiming, you can shoot your way out of most fights, doing quick peeks or flanking people racks up dmg and you hit more often than the great 0.29 accuracy german guns because that stupid number doesnt mean shit in this game.
That being said - you still want to move in closer when you can, not a problem these days.
Patton is a bit slow for my liking, so probably swapping the vents for a turbo on some maps would be great, but i dont feel like using a 2nd equipment setup.

As an owner of this tank, if you want to have fun with it you must spam gold shells (even golds do have very bad penetration value)
This tank hits more when snapshooting than fully aiming. Because american dispersion on the move and american accuracy... ;)

comparing the tank to what was back in the old days, it is still good but it is a Tier 8 tank by now and unpopular opinion but giving it the 90mm top gun and move it to T8m making the M48 the Tier 9 tank and a variant of the M60 the T10 tank of the line (Pershing down to T7 and T-20 a collectors vehicle) would be the best solution
it was once balanced against the T-54 were the one has better gun handling dpm and view range while the other has better armour and mobility, but those days are gone and the M46 seems to be the only leftover
I miss a lot of shots, some fully aimed some partially. I had this differently in my mind
With the second gun the tank work but i am doing 50% dmg and 50% assist spoting/track usually.. 4k or 3k avarage..
But Skilllllll, I think you keep the feeling of the m48 on the m46 ;)
The low pen on the AP shell makes you aim for weakspots and I don't know, but i manage to hit and pen most of my shots with it, the M46 just works
I don't know about you but i feel like this for all american tanks , on paper they have good guns / handling / accuracy but in reality they miss so many shots . Fully aimed against weakspots or something . Its the same for me with t110e5
I wanted to re-fresh this tank few days back, and it felt exactly same way. Disgusting gun handling. Like something changed. Not a meta anymore, for sure.

Same. Most enjoyable tank in the game for me, spins faster than a toy, snapshots perfectly over ridges and instead of improved aiming I use a turbo like on the M48 which makes it really nice.

Usually tier 9 is a nice tier. BUT for this thing it feels like you need to spend all the credits to get to be an average tank.
Yeah the gun handling feels lackluster, can't hit snapshots. Also turret armor is not reliable at all. E50 feels so much better.
I’ve enjoyed this tank in the past but with the current meta I don’t play it at all. There is nothing good about it. Sure good alpha, DPM but otherwise meh. I’d say give it a stronger turret like the E 50 then it can use its hull down ability. Thanks Skeeel!
I would love to see skill play like the more average player. No streamer matchmaking or rng. 80% crew, no consumables and base equipment. But if he did that he wouldn't be on the top of the scoreboard all the time.

I enjoyed the IX the X was a huge letdown and yes Skill is right on the gold just like type 59 makes a different tank
Patton is obviously way worse than it used to be, simply because it did not receive any buffs. I wish they made some normalization for ammunition pen (like tier 9 tanks should have at least 245 pen on standard ammo in normal guns) and other things (m46 and m48 being slower than many heavy tanks is laughable for example). And recently gun handling seems to be worse - like the actual accuracy (the hidden one) got silently nerfed in meantime - but that might be just rng or nostalgia.
Little advice to editor...im not deff but try to gain audio level.
tier 7 hard to play but good
tier 8 hard to play but average
tier 9.. hard to play but below average :(
tier 10 not so hard to play and easy to achieve constant performance, very good gunhandling you can play almost golf-free
my favorite medium because its so easy to handle that you can actually focus on STRATEGY **

This tank drove me crazy, the gun handling was so horrible for me. Super derpy. I just couldn't rely on it at all even at mid range. Plus it's slow, and it has no armor... It really did fall behind!
This tank got power creeped, like it’s Soviet and German counterparts. You don’t see a lot of T-54s and E-50s these days.
E-50 and E-50M are still great niche tanks and their gun are still amazing. I agree soviet meds suffered a bit due to them being all rounders (I feel that all rounder mediums got hit the hardest after balance changes due to eq 2.0 and field mods) but they are still in a decent place.

It doesn't feel that good anymore because all other tanks are getting better through powercreep. Also improved/bond equipement and field mods, that are used these days makes even mediocre tanks better than in the old days, so comparing to those the M46 Patton doesn't shine.

I hated this tank with every cell of my body . I just couldnt make it work . The TierX and VIII are epic but this no it just give me the middlefinger .
yes good comparison. I loved my play in the E-50 and the M46 was just so so kind of a chore just to get through the grind... yes i few good games but when i played the E-50 it was like i was a god and the Patton was more like a dog.
and PS I played almost exclusively with standard ammo in Patton yes it's just a lousy grind..... i really want to go play E50 after this video lol
In my view his whole American meds tech tree line is kind of ok to play, no more. There is nothing wrong with any of them and at the same time not one really stands out. For every tier I can think of another better tech tree alternative.

Back in time there was a mod to assign a button for autoaiming closest enemies. Autoaim, fire on the move, retreat. It used to be fun. I haven't played that that in the last 5 years or so.

Totally outclassed even by tier 8s nowadays, like the LIS. Needs full gun-taming equip (vents, stabs, bounty aim) like Bourrasque.
If you are a goldnoob this is better than the Patton tier X. Like all of those meds with "normal" penetration (E50 for example)
Bad penetration should be a characteristic to balance the tank... unfortunatly gold ammo exist amd we can spam it.
But in a tank that penetrates well with standard ammunation you can't pay to buff your armor

This tank is so god damn awful to play. No armor. No pen (even tier 8 tanks have more pen). No camo. Only good thing is 390 alpha. Its so fucking outdated its unbearable to play, yet alone enjoy

No 1 shittiest thing on the grille is the cammo. Its just disgustingly low.
No 2 is gun handling and reload.

Unlocked e50. Gun is lacking i can say. So many full aimed misses, even with gold (270 pen). You cant pen frontally superheavys.

I'm sad to know you need gold ammo with this tank. Believe it or not, I have had it for two years and never played a game in it because I have been trying to free xp upgrading the modules and I don't play very much so it takes forever.
This tank is overrated, i hated it when grinding this line. Mediocre gun, even with gold, it doesn't excel at anything other than view range, it has bad armor, bad camo, below average speed. Yeah it has good dpm and that's about it. For me this tank is truly overrated, 2/5 imo.
with all respect , full gold is bad economy IF u play with bad team . some wot players DONT have premium account u forget that sometimes
