The sundown z 24 can be a honorable mention. Might be the same as the stereo integrity sub.
I was there at the finals when Richard Clark went for it. The truck was the limiting factor like you said. Was impressive.
Thrilled to see Stereo Integrity make the honorable mentions!
Heck yeah, they are awesome woofers
Fun memories. I did USAC world finals in 501-1000 SQ+ 97,98,99 but also dabbled in DBDrags and USAC outlaw.
Best DB USAC SQ+ (That stupid Flashdance song) 153.8. Best DBDrag 157.2 and best USAC outlaw 163.?.
8 RF 18's in a Dodge Dart X~)
A Dodge Dart? That would have been great to see
Another good one! Thanks for the information and history lesson. My favorite on the list that I have seen in person would be the honorable mentioned Sound Integrity IB subwoofer but would love to see the B2 Audio sub in action.
Thank you. I hope to see some of those B2s too
This was a great video. Part 2 please!
One wild story about that bread truck, It had to have some pictures took of it, that is just so wild that I csnt believe it wasn't documented
Awesome video. I can’t wait for part two! 😁
how about the 24 inch mtx jackhammer, and the 32 inch cosmos audio woofer, the deaf bonce 21 inch woofer, and the 24 inch sundown audio woofer?might have to make it a top 10 list lol.
Yea I was surprised the MTX Jacky was not there.
He may make a part 2.
All good Woofers too
@@SparkedEd love the cha nnel Ed👍
Thank ya thank ya
If you ever try to build a 5 foot subwoofer running off of servos, you might have to use a armored truck or shipping container braced up similar to the Matterhorn subwoofer, or use and modify the tank on a propane delivery truck? Building the subwoofer sounds fun and challenging but not impossible, finding a vehicle that will survive it might be the expensive and complicated part
Me and a neighbor took a 21” or so woofer from a console stereo and put it in a hatchback Pinto of mine. Put a crude box together and powered it with a 40 watt booster. This was around 1990.
That would have been sweet to see.
Im really enjoying this top 5 series. Maybe a top 5 head units that pushed tech to where it is today. Looking forward to the next, thank you.
Thanks. I was thinking of doing a head unit video. I started looking into some info on them. That vid may take a while because historical info is hard to come by.
I really hope the next video, will be your list of amplifier designs. I know I have a couple in mind that set pretty high up on the list. Companies that actually employee Engineers to design a circuit from scratch could really use the appreciation you know, plus I think a lot of people would be surprised by which companies actually make the list. Love the videos keep them coming. P.S. coming out to TDH again this year?
The Ascendo 80” subwoofer looks absolutely insane!!!
No MTX Jackhammer mention surprising.
I run the Stereointegrity IB24 in my F150 in a blow through .... without alot of EQ at all its flat to 10hz .... but the main reason I use it is for the SQ ... the kick drums are now INSANELY tight and uncolored by resonance or compression .... driving it with a 5k Bass Teramp at 2 ohm and eat eats 2500watts without a sweat .... last sub I will ever need
Cool topic. When I was working as a car audio installer, in the early 90's that Clarion speaker was the beast! But I would rather have smaller speakers and cleaner sound, versus massive bass, now! But.... I still appreciate a low bass system!
Cool video man
I had a Magnat Aggressor 6000 in my car.
Did not need alot of power to go low and loud.
I watched them launch a windshield out of the bread truck at finals one year! Showered me with glass and all.
Also you forgot the Atomic 24" woofer.... something I got to see at finals one year.
That had to be a fun sight to see
#4, That Cadence sub the magnets were Neo's I think, pretty sure it was one of the first companies to start using Neodymium magnets in their subs. they were almost always used in the small multi puck form, as shown in the pic's and vid clips
That woofer was the inspiration for the mtx jackhammer. The surround was an inner tube from a tractor tire the linear servo motor had the magnets in a rod in the center with large fixed staged coils driving the rod.
This can be done at a smaller scale and much faster today thanks the the speed of modern mosfets and microcontrollers it like combines a 8ch amp with a 8 phase bldc motor
Thank you. Seems like a crazy way to do it, but how else could it even be done in the 90s?
Totally awesome video content!! Do you know much about Parts Express Dayton Audios 21 inch Kraken. Says its louder than 2 18s. What does 7 liters of air displacement translate to xmax or xmech measurements. I thought it said one sub could reach 135 db in a room, not a car. Any insights would much appreciated, thanks!!
Excuse me sir. You forgot the funky pups lol
Dang it
Right , how can you not put the funky pups on a list like this , I can no longer take this channel seriously , lol , jp , love the content , keep up the great work
What about about the MTX Jackhammer, or the Rockford Fosgate T3 those are some cool subwoofers from companies that have been around a long time and I would have to mention the Deaf Bonce DB-832 32 inch sub which can handle like almost 20k
Definitely awesome woofers
I rember hearing a story of someone having a 6 ft. custom stroker built. It cost them 100K or so, but didn't turn out as loud as they thought it would. Who knows if it's true, but I heard that well over 20 years ago.
That could be the story of the 60" MTX 1000000 that someone got the details mixed up.
I remember hearing this rumor too , anyone ever find out the truth about it ?
@@mikeywilcox2501 Not that I know of. It'd be interesting to get some details about it.
Clarion and cadence fan here
That audiobahn looks like a neo motor that would make sense why it's so small with high power capabilities
Definitely. Not sure how strong it was, but it was a lot of small radial neo magnets. They did the same on some of their 18s
I'd use a large inner tube for the surround on a sub like the last one, also the B2 33" is based on a standard basket used also by Ground Zero, Deaf Bounce and GAS, and possibly a couple others. These are European brands, not sure of anyone in the US making one.
We need more Euro brands in the US
What you think about the jackhammer from MTX
It's ok. I was never a big fan of it, but it's impressive
From my understanding the "thunder 1,000,000" used a tractor tire that was cut into shape for a surround.
I don't know how true that is.
But I did hear it from a reputable source.
That seems like a good way to do it
You should try to contact Richard Clark and see if he would do an interview with you. I know he was on an sqology podcast a few years back. I think he's still in North Carolina and believe he has a business that restores and modifies Buick Grand Nationals.
I'd love to meet him. I'm not the guy to do interviews, but if ever do meet him, I may have to.
@@SparkedEd I did get to meet him back in 1996 at Spring Break Nationals. I built a car for a guy to complete in the novice class (SQ/Install) and Richard came by and looked the car and gave me some compliments and offered to help tune it. So we sat in the car and he listened to it and helped me out. Super nice guy! I know he has been controversial in the car audio world but he seemed like a really good guy to me.
I have a diatone/Mitsubishi 30-something sub
Great vid ed. thanks 🙏
Another honorable mention should be the aura 1808.
My buddy Phil bought the 32" Clarion woofer, only to find that it sucked. Had it warrantied after it blew trying to keep up with an 18" Cerwin-Vega.
Would be a collector item today though
Forgot about the MTX jackhammer
I remember that from pimpmyride they said it was like 300lbs lol
I got one of them rfl they super sweet there made a lot of Sq lots of people like using there motors for franknwoofers I'm guessing you built one with yours lol
I sold off my motors to someone building frankenstein woofers
I have some 6- Mtx 9500 12s I’m dying to run 😅
I've always heard that it only moved forward and broke. So it did all that with only half a cycle. 👀
I seen Richards bread truck at a show in Bogart,GA just outside Athens. They couldn't get it to fire up at that time, wasn't for the lack of trying. For some reason I remember seeing a stack of Crown pro audio amps in it. The version I seen was much cruder than yours in the video. I believe I'm right in hearing him say the surround was made by Goodyear. If you can make contact with Richard Clarke he'll answer all your questions.
Other have said the surround was a tractor tire too. I appreciate you sharing the info.
We need a follow up on this ED!who is this mysterious man and where can we get the details Is this mr Clark we are talking about here or Superman😂
buddy has the 34 audiobaun sub which other companies have used
Grab it off him
@@SparkedEd was my audio boss but dude terrible on paying ppl owes me money and hides at his house and never answers his phone he lost alot of business since i quit has a t319 im holdin it in my fb pic, been around audio since i was 8 and im pushin 40 love ur stroker vid but shocked u didnt review the mtx 22in jackhammers or t319 power
Deafbonce db832 neo is also a beast
I'd love to see one of those in person
@@SparkedEd Got to hear two of them in Adam Dukes build, super absurd lows. The kind that slaps your eye lids
80" subwoofer, look it up. Home theater though I guess. Too bad Parthenon didnt get a chance to go anywhere really..
That's exactly the one I was referencing. I should have put up a few pics.
@@SparkedEd when? I must have missed it, didn hear you reference either of them
@@NVMDSTEvil Towards the end, at 14:13 I say the we know of 80" woofers in theater systems and Marty MacFly's woofer. It was a quick comment, but that's one that was on my mind, along with this video I saw while gathering my info. ua-cam.com/video/gXZSFRmswb0/v-deo.html
@@SparkedEd ah ok. I would really like one of the Ascendo 80"ers. 21" voice coil with 35mm one-way linear excursion.. yum. :)
@@NVMDSTEvil I think one could fit in a bus for sure
Aluma-pro made a 42 inch back in 94-95 ...
Stereo Integrity!
I'll be surprised if you even see this but anyway how do I get a recone for that rfl??
Original parts don't exist anymore. You'd have to build it custom. Best to measure the coil and try to find a match or message fixmyspeaker.com
I remember Mythbusters tried to make a woofer
I love Mythbusters, but I think they mucked that one up.
@@SparkedEd didnt they break a record though? 160+ at around 18hz?
They weren't even close. That's why they mucked it up. Top scores at the time were in the 176-177 dB range in extreme class and 168db for Super Street. They would have gotten louder if they used conventional woofers as opposed to that drive shaft driven contraption.
@SparkedEd i thought it was a record for loudest at 16hz, but they weren't able to back it up bcz it broke
As an owner of the clarion 32 I'm sad I don't have enough room for a proper box😭
Probably needs a refrigerator
@@SparkedEd atleast 2😂
@@wildapeman3685 Put it in your house. Problem solved. Does it still work?
Richard pioneered caps, then held a 10k cash prize for anyone who could prove they actually work? Or do I have the wrong guy?
Some Installers were using stiffening caps prior to RC bringing them to the fore front , The 10k prize was for an audio challenge of "hearing" the tonal differences between 2 amps, in a lab test setup. I think that 10k is still up for grabs. (I attended several A2K seminars that this was talked about). I Met Richard a year or so before he purchased the SW Buick, when he was competing with his Cadillac which was a superb install on itself.
The "Bread Truck" was first unveiled at the IASCA World Finals in 1997 ( I was event staff and had to assist in trafficking vehicles around safely, and This was one of many that garnered extra attention). It arrived "late" since it was involved in a traffic accident on its way to the event. and yes.. it "broke" during the competition, since i was busy with the event, I had no idea was truely happened... I Talked to Mark Eldridge a few years back about the Bread Truck, he may have intel on what broke during the event.
29:41 and 47:48 ( and yes i am in the back by that big overhead door somewheres, but being 5'6" i am hidden like waldo)

@@bummrplayer Yea one of the writers for Car Stereo Review, last name Navarro can't remember his first name wrote an article about the differences between 1% and 4% THD if it could be heard by ear and he proved it couldn't be. They had two identical cars one with all class a/b amps and high end goodies, the other all class d....Blind taste test if you will, not one person could which was which.
@@devastatoraudio Dave Navarro if I remember correctly....
@@bummrplayer Thats what I was thinking :D
Tim maynard 🤣🤣was the first guy to ever meter one of first builds ,the same guy that owned and built the fosgate wolf blazer right.sad he got out of car audio, sad story really don't want to talk about his downfall.
Tim is still around a little. I was hanging out at his shop when I worked for T3. Made him tap out of my old HHR
@@SparkedEd I hope to see ya at a show this year, maybe I'll have something big and something budgety, but big budget 😂and not soo budget friendly one ,we shall see. Proud of you guys I remember when I first started following you,I said now this guy has a wealth of knowledge and I was right.
I have the CLARiiON 32. Do you know anybody that can recone it
Th hardest part would be finding a cone and surround. If the coil is bad, you could try to carefully remove it from the cone/spider, taking detailed measurements, and finding a new coil. Other than that, it's probably a goner.
@@SparkedEd I would mold a piece of canvas, treated and stiffened. Then use some bicycle inner tubes as the surround. What the heck?!
RC is one of those MINDS. all new people please look up his history.
He was brilliant for many things
Love my incriminator audio death penalty r6 12's. They can handle 4krms with ease all day long.
I’m gonna be running 2 of Incriminator’s Tyrant 15’s on 10k in a mustang! Should be spicy.
What about the MTX Jackhammer? Extremely heavy, and in 24" square, and also round
I was here to ask the same
Nice big woofer, I was just never a fan of it.
@@SparkedEd feelings about the DD 21” offerings?
I don't know too much about it, but I've always been impressed by DD
