GZ Pezi Frank from Germany, builder of the green Olga (it's an east german "Wartburg" car) told me on a car meet, he went to the scrapyard and measured all kind of different vehicles, to find the perfect width for the wavelenghts he wanted to use. His skill is still insane to me, since he reaches 180+ with one single 15" Neo Woofer.
You definitely took it back to the Golden years with some classic SPL vehicles like Team Gates and etc. I remember reading about a lot of these in Car Audio Magazine and Car Stereo and Electronics when they covered SPL competitions
When I was a teen here in Australia 30 years ago I had a Alma Gates World Record Ad on one of my school folders, it had her earlier Bronco and it was 164.9db! The subs she used at the time was like 40 x 10" I forgot the name but they were flat with that lightning bolt sign on the sub.
2 honorable mentions are the Mazda RX-7 (Walled) and the Scion XB square body. A vehicle I wish I had for extreme SPL would be the Scion XB. It looks like an enclosure on wheels.
Ah Scottie's old astrovans. I sat in the one with the 14 RE MT's and MA HK4000Ds at Carl Casper in 2005. IIRC that was the first non extreme to break 170 on the TL. Cool stuff, not really into the competition scene anymore, but this was a good trip down memory lane.
@@psementalist I was doing high 130s without trying back in '02 in an '89 Probe, so I'm sure you abolish that with anything modern... I mean, 2 Panasonic 10s on 800w ain't hard to beat. 😅 But yeah, it'd make for a fun little build if some actual power was put to it! 👍🏼
I built my nephew a little system in the early 2000's and he went to his first show to compete after leaving Afghanistan. Ended up in the same class with Terry Brocks and his CRX which he drove down to Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. It had some Digital Designs 10's and a Hifonics amp in it I believe. At any rate, Terry's car posted over a 150 and both of our jaws nearly hit the floor. We got to experience greatness in that moment and we still talk about it nearly 20 years later. I think my nephew hit a 134.7 in his Honda Civic that the glue was still drying in. :) He is still proud of that second place trophy! The Jeep with the Z series in it was sick and I'll never forget meeting the guy from Richmond. VA with those 6000 watt JBL amps in I vaguely remember was an Astrovan.

First loudest vehicle I heard was Jeff Sewers( spelling?)black Orion Chevy dually with 20…12’s. This was around 1992 in Arizona. He claimed he had the highest DB back then.
The system in my Camry hovers around 150 on 3kw. Just 2 - 12s on a synergy wfo 3k. Most I've scored is 151 on music. But 185? That's crazy, talk about purpose-built
What about team soundcheck hitting 185.4 using 18 sundown neo 10s and 36 salt 8ks. After all none of these vehicles are stock or even resemble one on the inside
Bronco and bronco 2 both go bonkers. The scion XB can go nuts. And as crazy as it sounds I did a VW Rabbit in the late 90s early 2000s with 4 12s and 3k watts that popped a 142.7. a bronco 2 with 2 15s and 3500 watts that got a 151.2 and those were both full interior cars. Box design and targeting your output at the meter is crazy. Had a buddy that helped me learn a lot about that stuff.
T Fade used to use one. Back in the day Shaker used one, but pre 160s it was Tim Maynor, Mark Fakuda, and many others with the Blazer. Then Scott Van Riper and at least one other used a Typhoon.
Best sounding bass friendly car I have come across is the 4 door Chevy citation. Gets the benefit of being a hatchback. It also with the back seats down has a huge amount of space for crazy stuff. On as a side note the way it's built even low powered crappy subs would sound good. While great subs were WOW!!!
He's not after stupid pressure like that he's after the low lows and hair tricks. Demo rides and DB rides are totally different animals. Just like SQ builds are a different animal again. It's crazy what is out there now.

My first car was an 86 Astro 2 tone tan and burgundy, had a buddy make a decal for the back that said the speaker box, i had 1 15 inch MTX Thunder 8000 think the model was T8154A but it hit SO HARD and put waves in the windows hahah :( i miss it , but i was young n dumb and was on a dirt rd doing fishtails being rear wheel drive strait 6 haha yea i rolled it lol

Always Astro, don't you dare buy a Safari! Scotties were always my favourite, the black the and white were very period correct modified with wheels,lights and body kits tastefully done. Not very common with the other loud vehicles to see them put money into styling like the Astro crowd.

The good ol'e Astro has been putting numbers up for 25 years. When I walked thru the lanes in the late 90's it was almost all Astros vans.
I wish I could have found a pic I had from a show with an entire pit lane of Astros lined up.
