100% bought both the rails and crossbars from your video and they installed super easily on a 2013 Honda CRV. Was extremely easy to install. Thanks for saving me lots of headaches looking for a solution
I’m about to install the side rails today, thanks for making this video! Update - they must have realized the bolts need an Allen wrench, not torx, because they include an Allen wrench.
I have a 2014 CR-V Touring model that I bought used from a Honda dealer in 2016. It has the side rails, but not the cross-bars, which I have not purchased. It does have the access hatches in the side rails which you said do not come with the OEM Honda rails. I have always assumed that the side rails came standard with the Touring model, but perhaps these were a dealer installed option. I don't think the previous owner installed them, since I believe it was a leased vehicle.
Great instructions on the rails. I bought a similar eBay unit. The rails went on OK, but it was impossible to line up the bolts of the cross bars with the nuts in the rail. The nuts are just pressed into the rail, and they spin out of the plastic from the side load. So I have rails that serve no purpose.
Gteat detailed video, thanks. At time 7:21, it looks like the front if the rail is a bit hacked up? Does the moulding maybe go into yhat rail yhete? Doesnt seem right. Thoughts? Am I seeing it wrong?
At least we now know what you drive😁 I'm shopping now. Wekl actually I've been shopping for over a year but more serious now. Hoping to have a new ride by this summer.
Thank you for a detailed installation! Problem is where can I buy the rails here in the Phils. The dealership have them but too expensive (more than 5x) than one seller said but some seller here are not that reliable
@@jlreyes1144 i put some links for both in the description. This is for ebay canada but im sure you can find one that is selling to the USA. Yeah, the dealers are waaay too expensive.
thanks for the video. in the same boat and looking for a cheap diy alternative and this looks great. Think there'd be any issue throwing a thule/cargo box on top?
This is very similar to the OEM so I don't think there should be a problem. I would just check the box that you are getting make sure the spacing will work as the crossbars are not adjustable. I'm thinking of getting one as well. So if you get one before me let me know what you get!
It seems to be some sort of metal on the inside. I'm guessing steel. And then plastic on the outside. It really is meant to work those specific cross bars. I don't think I would trust to place anything else along other parts of the rail.
Yeah for me it's something pretty essential. And these ones from eBay surprised me when they went in relatively smoothly. Instructions were almost useless but I saved a ton of money.
This is a great how-to video - thank you! I have not purchased off of ebay before... I am in Canada, as I believe you also mentioned you are in the video...did you have to pay customs charges or any other additional charges for these two items?
Nice video! How’s the roof rails withstanded the summer heat? Some reviews says those plastic rails can warp in summer heat. Have you put some load on your cross bars since you installed your rack? Thanks 👍🏻
@@LadybugAdventures ok. I just ordered it. Thank you. Hopefully mine will not make a noise. I realize that it may a bit inconvenience of doing a car wash.
Thanks for the video super helpful! I want to add these to my crv for my two bikes. Do you have any concerns with quality when putting on a heavier load?
I can't say for certain. Roof rails that I installed are specifically for this rail system. I don't know how sturdy the plastic is along the rest of the rail.
Are the side rails flush and sturdy to your CRV all the way down. I bought a pair of side rails recently and they seemed to lift off the roof a few centimeters when I would rock them back and forth?
after 5 yrs most of my access covers ARE GONE!....carwash...heat etc... my rails have also bowed in the sun and do not fit flush anymore! looks like crap
@@dfwguy7149 I’m only 2-3 years in so fingers crossed. I am definitely not gentle on mine. I use the rails to pull myself up to get access to the roof etc. sorry to hear about yours rails.
@@Technie87 they have function perfectly since I put them up. I transport an 80 pound kayak very regularly on these rails without any issue. Best decision ever!

Awesome. Glad to help! Enjoy the rack!
this is the type of "how to" car video I've been searching for. So thorough. Keep up the good work dude!
Thank you. Really nice of you!
Great video! I just ordered rails and crossbar for my 2012 CRV. Thank you so much for the detailed instructions.
No problem glad to help. I just used mine this afternoon to transport my paddle board. Works perfectly

It may not fit totally flush. As far as I know there is no issue with that front area.
Can a roof tent be installed on those roof rails, or are they only suitable for lighter loads?
upto about 150lbs So not really suitable for a roof top tent.

@@LadybugAdventures thanks again!
Thank you for this informative video, well done. I am planning to purchase and install the same accessories in my 2016 Honda Cr-V.
Awesome. Glad I could help in any way.
Cool! I want to add one for mine too! I miss having a roof rack.

Quick and easy
The problem is that I know I wouldn’t be allowed to cut the outside molding 😔
Excellent video. Thank you!
How did they hold up? Think they would support a kayak?
In my experience I would feel pretty confident with the kayak around 75 lb
You are alternating factory rails
Crv from 2012 is preset for roof rack
Thanks for the video - very helpful!
Excellent glad to help

I don't think I did. Unfortunately my memory is ridiculously poor. Still have it on my car and it is working really well.
Nice video! How’s the roof rails withstanded the summer heat? Some reviews says those plastic rails can warp in summer heat. Have you put some load on your cross bars since you installed your rack? Thanks 👍🏻
My rails are fine. The base is metal and really the caps are plastic. I've only had about 50 lbs on it so far. Everything feels really solid.
What size bolt is the one that goes in cross to connect into rail. The long one. ?
Yes. Long ones into the side rail and short ones for the crossbar brackets
Hi. I’m thinking of getting the cross bars. Is there a whistling sound? Any noise while driving?
Absolutely nothing on mine. They have been great for that issue.

No these are very sturdy. Just follow recommended weight. 2 bikes should be fine.
Do you think you could install bars from Thule on the roof rails?
You'd just have to Google that!
My apologies if this was answered in the video, but are the cross bars fixed into one position or can they be moved/adjusted as needed?
This oem design is fixed in one position.
Are these still functional? Has anyone had trouble with them?
They have been working great so far. I transport my old towne 120 pdl kayak on them all the time.
I just bought a rhino rack (crossbars) from e trailer. Will they fit these side rails?
I can't say for certain. Roof rails that I installed are specifically for this rail system. I don't know how sturdy the plastic is along the rest of the rail.

@@danielmaupin5863 no they are very solid throughout
How sturdy or strong do those cross bars feel. Could they hold significant weight? What are the made of? Plastic?
I believe they are aluminum. They really feel sturdy. I can't remember the exact weight but usually the Max is around 150 lb for most roof racks
super helpful. thank you
Awesome. Glad to help!
How length are them? I have seen 69 inches and 77 inches length?
I'll check and let you know
How have they been holding up?
Great. No problems at all.
Would this be able to support a roof tent?
Supports around 150lbs so I don’t think so
200 bucks? These made out of gold or something?

Yea they're going to be cheaper, but the quality is going to be significantly less. . bad decision here.
