This is where I had my very first taste of a Delta Tamale and I've been hooked on them ever since. Being up here in Colorado, you can't find them. So I learned by reading before the computer age came along. Just got done making a couple dozen. Wonderful memories.
Doe's is seriously wonderful. I hear people complain about it a lot saying that it's "too dirty" and the location is bad. Well, hey. The location and the run-down building is what gives Doe's character! It is why I LOVE Doe's! Doe's is one of the things that make me proud to be from Greenville!
I met her the last time I went home to Greenville Mississippi and her business establishment she is a beautiful wonderful soul woman and I love her and her family and business🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽💯💯💯💯💯👍👍👍👍👍👸🏾👸🏾👸🏾👸🏾👸🏾🥰🥰🥰🥰👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
I stopped in Greenville in the 90's on a road trip along highway 61. I had a great meal in Doe's Eat Place and would recommend eating here. As a blues loving Brit travelling the blues trail, this is just the kind of place I was looking for to eat authentic American food.
smay2121 what you should try is their hot tamales. That's what really made them famous. I've lived in Texas for 30 yrs. and I can tell you I have never eat a tamale that could hold a candle to a Miss delta tamale and Doe's was the hot tamale king.
I remember when I was a kid eating at Doe's. That's back when the average working man could afford to take his whole family there to eat. They only had about three family size tables in what use to be the living room but if it had an empty chair it was open to anyone. They also had one in the kitchen that you were welcome to eat at. It was there Hot tamales that really made them famous though.
We never saw a menu with prices, but we ordered 1 porterhouse and 1 T-Bone...We had 2 children and 2 adults, split the steaks...our bill was $178.00 [with tip it was $200] The food we ordered in addition to the 2 steaks were: 2 ice tea; 1 beer; 4 salads and 2 orders of tamales. Does anyone have a copy of the menu with prices? We just wondered if there was a mistake.
Doe's has very plain salads and sides. It's all about the steaks. When I bring folks from Europe to Doe's they go crazy and always order a steak big enough for 3 people.
I notice there were no blacks sitting down eating. Are they allowed to sit now or do they still have to take their food from the back and leave as always?
Robin Redbreast fuck you honestly... doe's is on Nelson in the hood. The south isn't what it's made out to be. Watch the full video. Dammit. We are probably the most conjoined city in the SouthEast. Don't assume something about a place you have never even been to
Robin Redbreast well, this will surprise you, the owner originally started as a juke joint for black folk, where he served bootleg alcohol and a place for them to relax, dance , and have fun, then some patrons asked for food, and he started serving them steaks, it grew from there, although he caught alot of flak for catering to blacks, so do a little research before you start your racist mouth,... from a non racist irish white man in rural kentucky
I have watched the entire video. I see black people working there but none being served. Oh well, I was told from someone who lives in Greenville not to expect blacks being seated here. I LOVE the comments and replies. Excellent feedback. I am happy to know the history of the restaurant. I too have an Irish grandmother, straight off the boat. If I ever visit Greenville, which is not likely, I will be sure to visit this place. The food looks good. ;-)
A question in case someone from Greenwood can answer me. I am European and I have been offered to go to this city for 3 months, because I am a guitarist and it is an opportunity to know the blues but is this city dangerous? I have read in comments that you have to be careful, how true is this? Thank you.

I love the background music. Mississippi Delta Blues!

Same
The main deterrent for me to return is how expensive it is. I've never seen steaks cost that much outside of New York City.

The baton rouge location is one of the best kept secrets in Louisiana. That was the best run restaurant I have ever been to.

My Daddy Billy Dobbins took me to that restaurant when I was a little boy. Best steak in the world.

You are a complete idiot! And, obviously, know nothing. Where do you live? I'm sure nowhere near there with that type of stupid question.
1 person disliked this because they're jealous they haven't been to Doe's.
You will meet the richest people in the delta there. They literally are paying $100 a steak
