Back when beef prices were actually reasonable, going to steakhouses were a good thing. But nowadays, I could buy 3 to 4 prime choice cut steaks and cook it myself for the price of dining at one steakhouse restaurant. Not only that, I still have money leftover to buy ingredients for fantastic sides and desserts. For those of us who don't have Bill Gates income, grilling your own steak is the way to go.
@@vildachaya6462 Tucanos would be the better deal on Brasilian. Foco De Chao charges $135 per person. I'll stay at home and cook for family and friends. I have had them come from New York to New Mexico to try one of mine. (No Brag, Just Facts)
@@gregoryjohnson9066 $65* per person. I find the concept of trying all the meats better than committing to one kind of steak at a traditional steakhouse. I also marinate and do steaks at home as well.
The best steak I ever tasted was 50 years ago. It was on a chartered Pan AM airliner leaving Vietnam about an hour out of Saigon on my way home. In reality it could have been dog meat but under the circumstances it was one of my most memorable meals ever!
I bet it was and thank you for your serving us its a shame what you guys went through and what you had to come home to i will always have the highest respect for you soldiers
The sirloin my dad cooked over charcoal in my old busted wagon were the best, so were his ribs and chicken. We were poor but splurged on Sunday meals after church.
I travel for work and have been to multiple Texas Roadhouse locations, and have never been unhappy with my meal. The Longhorn where I live is great too, and surprisingly our local and much closer Outback isn't bad for the price either if on a budget or just don't feel like driving. Chain restaurants can vary wildly in quality from location to location.
Yes Texas Roadhouse is the goat. They're so good they forced our one and only Chilis out of business Heck even Texas Roadhouses chili is better than Chili's chili 😆
I loved the ponderosa chopped steak burger ( hamburger), it along with the salad bar was fantastic. The actual steaks gave me an upset stomach, must have been the tenderizer.
I’d have to disagree. The key to a great steak is starting with a great piece of meat. Even the greatest chef can only elevate a crappy cut so much. And that’s where most “mid-level” steakhouses fail. On the other hand, high end steakhouses like Ruth’s Chris are able to get the absolute best cuts because they do so much volume. They also tend to be able to hire the best staff for much the same reason. Having said that, I can guarantee you that in almost every city that has a Ruth’s Chris there is at least one steakhouse that is at least as good, and probably much better, and probably has a more authentic ambiance and will be a more memorable experience.
Texas Roadhouse, Longhorn Steakhouse are both really good places no doubt about. However I do like McCormack and Schmick's in Kansas City, it's more money but dang hands down best steak I've ever had. My brother came to visit and I took him and his wife and they are still talking about two months later.
Texas Roadhouse (at least back in the day) treated their employees pretty well too. A former coworker of mine worked at a location where several employees were simultaneously going through a difficult time. The CEO at the time showed up at the location and handed out checks to every employee as a token for his appreciation.
The Texas Roadhouse CEO passed away at the beginning of Covid due to suicide and I remember seeing hundreds of posts on LinkedIn with stories just like this one. That man was a man of true character. RIP
I think it takes more than one visit to truly find the best steak house. For example, I've only been to Salt Grass once and wasn't very happy with the steak. I'd be willing to go a few more times before I'd cut them out completely. I've been to Texas Roadhouse lots of times and have been happy nearly every time.
Same. I went to Longhorn last week with my family and was very underwhelmed with the N.Y. stip I had. I age and season my own steaks at home and they are amazing.
You are so right. Akin to ordering expensive wine in a restaurant. So much better to learn how to cook an a spectacular cut of meat and with a special bottle of wine at home. My motto - drink inexpensive wine at restaurants and save the splurge wines for home - or bring your own wine to the restaurant if it is an option.
I just love the experience where I come back hungry from a road trip. Stop by Texas Roadhouse. Select your choice of ribye (vary by location/time), and enjoy not only their steak and sides, but also the buns. One waiter even waited for me to try the steak to ensure it's cooked the way i wanted before she leaves. Never experienced that at other steak restaurants.
When you are a traveler, which I was before the Pandemic, most of these TEXAS ROADHOUSE places are a decent steak. THey don't often overwhelm you but they rarely disappoint. When I cannot get a recommendation for a local place from my clients, I go there. However - the last three times I went to Longhorn, I actually got Lobster that was so bad I could not cut it and I never try to predict what my medium rare steak will be cooked like either. IF it has no pink, it goes back. I did learn one trick, pay your tip in cash and TELL your waiter that you will BEFORE your order (In any restaurant) for the best service.
@@dpz9872 Maybe. But I've been to other TR restaurants and the employees are usually happy working/providing nice customer service. Unlike the ones working in retail.
Not-so-fun fact about Longhorn and Roadhouse: neither serve Prime grade, only Choice grade. Considering Prime grade is only about $3 more per pound than choicei find this inexcusable. Wal-mart actually sells both choice AND Prime grade ribeyes. If you’re paying $30 or more for a steak, insist on prime grade!
Best steaks I've had the last year and a half have been Ribeyes in my own kitchen. Let them sit for an hour or so to get to room temperature, rub with olive or avacado oil.use garlic powder, salt and pepper then sear in a piping hot cast iron skillet for a couple minutes. Secret is to leave it alone while it is searing. Then in the oven to finish. Also the best fettucini alfredo I've ever had is in my kitchen too, but that's a different story.
Out of every steakhouse I’ve even eaten at I’ve found that Texas Roadhouse has been the most consistent and compared to other steak houses you know what you get for your money. Longhorn is a good second. Don’t get me wrong I’ve had excellent steaks at high end steakhouses for big bucks. But as far as chains go Texas Roadhouse and longhorn always deliver. And I prefer Texas Roadhouse over longhorn because of the sides and apps they offer, but that’s personal preference. Other steak houses I like are Texas land and cattle company and ironically the big Texan, the latter because it was always a stop on family vacations as a kid. There are a couple of places I like in Las Vegas too but again good steak big price. However none of these are chains. Saltgrass is ok, I’ve never had anything that was “bad” there but it’s not a place I just have to eat. Outback has declined so badly that we would rather go to Golden Corral instead.
Have to agree. While I can do without the kitschy country theme, TR's food is always consistent and their staff has their s*it together. I've never had a bad meal or poor service there.
@@shawnhicks619 Yeah, if you want a quiet, intimate dining experience, you won't find it there. They hustle people in and out, never an empty table if they can help it. Obviously this is a desirable formula for maximum profit, combined with their decent quality. But not a great place to take a date unless you're on your way back from something similar, like a theme park or demolition derby. lol
@@greendryerlint actually we eat there often, mostly due to vale for price. Or I know exactly how much I spend for what I’m getting. We generally eat there 3 times a month as we live in a rural area and my wife runs 3 daycares. So we go every week for supply runs. Usually we spend an entire day in “the big city” and have a small family day in between 4-5 shopping trips. Always consist of a fast food trip and a sit down meal. So we’ve sampled about every eatery in the general area we shop. The off meal usually is either a Tex mex place or Italian. Occasionally (like once a year) we get reservations for a Japanese steak house. Which also is always good, but about twice what I pay at Texas Roadhouse. I hope they remain a good chain as I heard the founder died last year. Usually that’s a bad sign so hope that I at the case.
Ruth’s Chris cooking method is hard to beat, I’ve traveled coast to coast & lived in Kansas City for 5 years & have never found a more consistently good steak & their sides are quality as well
I have fond childhood memories of Bonanza and Ponderosa. It's long gone from my city. And maybe it's as bad as described now. But there was something about their rib eye grilled steak with a baked potato and Texas Toast. I have few good memories of my childhood and this is one of them.
When I was a teenager I used to work at ponderosa rose tinted glasses from heavy nostalgia it used to be a frequent family spot before I work there...having said that though...their ranking for it and Ruth's Chris were probably the most accurate.
I worked at Ponderosa and would buy frozen pre-marinated ribeyes to cook at home on the grill for $1.25 a piece for 12oz. For some reason they tasted so much better made at home on a charcoal grill. I've tasted steaks all over the U.S. and it still was in my top10. But if your steak of choice is sirloin, or even worse, NY Strip...its just gonna not be that great anywhere. Ribeye or Filet for me, always cooked Med-rare.
@@candacesmith6058 Your a lucky lady. $1.25 a piece, lol??. And you are right. Finding a ribeye cut is practically impossible these days. If you're saying your at home steak was better than the restaurant's, that's saying a lot. I dunno. Maybe one of the few fond childhood memories I have has colored my memory. It no doubt has to a degree. After all, why does the memory of a Ponderosa steak still tastes better than the Wagyu cuts that I have had at restaurants today, lol? Anyway, thanks for your memory. Maybe my memory isn't just so much delusion after all. 😌🙂
I buy prime ribeye caps and prime NY strips from Costco. Cook them on my commercial grill on the patio. Absolute perfection- no need to dine out and pay premium $$$
Don't think I've tried Costco steaks. But I have had some of their other meats. Not a disappointment. I've been going to Publix for my steaks. My Son in law got me hooked on it!! He's a great griller and cook!
I have eaten at 3/4 of these steakhouses and I paid the bill at each, so I can be totally honest. The toughest steak I ever had was at Fleming's. Shula's was good but totally overpriced. Ruth's Chris was one of the best. Texas Roadhouse was not quite as good, but I can eat there 5-7 times for the price of one meal at Ruth's Chris. Order the bone-in ribeye, medium rare at Texas Roadhouse...you can thank me later.
Ruth’s Chris has been my favorite restaurant for many many years. They are incredibly consistent and the steaks are just to die for!! Here is the secret that not everyone knows. All of their portions are very large. As long as you like your steak cooked the same way, two people can split the New York strip, and split a side or two and be perfectly happy and content. The waiters will even tell you that the side dishes will serve 2 to 3 people. And they have always cut that steak in half for me in the kitchen. It ends up costing about the same as any of the other steak houses except the food is 10 times better. I recommend the potatoes Lyonnaise and the chop salad for my two sides.
Longhorn is actually pretty damn decent. It is a shame that they don’t have prime rib anymore but it’s still one of my go to for a decent steak at a decent price
Of all these mentioned Longhorn is hands down my favorite love the outlaw ribeye!! That being said I can grill myself and prepare and season it to my perfection and it’s better than any of these places at a fraction of the cost and my family will verify that they love my grilling!!
Nice to hear Texas Roadhouse gets your up vote... and that Roadkill steak is pretty good. But even more happy to see Longhorn so high on the list. We go to both and have never been disappointed.
I has the worst steak at Ruth Cris ever. $ 75 special It was suppose to be stuffed with crab, it wasn’t. It was limp and baked, swimming in gray juice. It was supposed to be my birthday dinner. I didn’t complain as I didn’t want to upset my friends. I will never fo back.
Best steak I have ever had hands down ever in my life.. Charlies on the lake, Omaha Nebraska, 2007. The slow roasted prime rib steak with the kreole topping on the side.. Blew my mind. I will never forget it. Charlies on the lake
Best steak I ever had was also in Nebraska. Just my own personal taste, I like the flavor of the beef that is raised in Nebraska. I've eaten plenty of steak all around the country and the world that was excellent, but there is something in the flavor of Nebraskan beef that just tastes right to me, I have no idea why that is though.
Had my first Capital Grille visit last month for a dinner. Gotta say I am very satisfied. Service was extremely attentive and friendly, the waiter knows the menu well, and recommended a special cut of bone-in filet mignon special to the day. Steak was cooked to perfection, charred and crispy on the outside but juicy and flavorful on the inside. Lobster bisque and lobster tail was also done beautifully.Total was about $180 for a three course meal with soup, surf and turf, and dessert. Would highly recommend a try.
@@mazzc67 Not hardly. A porterhouse is an entire steak with a NY strip and filet side. Bone-in filet actually has the bone on two sides of it. ONLY the filet portion is there. A porterhouse is NOT a bone-in filet.
A Capital Grill just opened a few months ago near me. I had never heard of them before. But after seeing this and reading the comments of them, next time I want to splurge on a fancy dinner, I know where I am going!
@@uspockdad6429 Capital Grille has a "porcini rubbed bone-in ribeye with 15-year aged balsamic" that was the best ribeye I've ever had. You're welcome.
As ZombifiedWatermelon wrote, "Chain restaurants can vary wildly in quality from location to location." I'd like to see Mashed make a video on each chain's consistency. Is a Longhorn in Seattle equal to a Longhorn in Miami? How are company standards enforced by each chain's management? Also, I wouldn't mind knowing how many locations the Mashed team visited. If they made their decision that Outback isn't good by visiting only 2 or 3 locations (going back to ZombifiedWatermelon's statement), that isn't enough samples.
I agree way back I tried longhorn in Tampa and the steak was tough . Then went to another with family and I experienced tough steak again . I stopped trying to and it was many years ago . If they have improved or not ill never know because I never go to strike 3.
When I lived in New Orleans I loved Ruth's Steakhouse. Live now in Douglasville Georgia and 3 Steakhouses are in a few blocks from each other. There's Outback,Texas Roadhouse, and,Longhorn. I ❤ a good 6oz. Flo filet mignon.
@Slim Pickens . Then, clearly you have not studied up on the benefits of Keto. It is for HEALTH reasons, Slim. And contrary to what you are thinking……it is actually working !
I think it's hard to make these kinds of generalizations. I think it'd dependent on, what beef has been supplied to the restaurant, the cook who's grilling it and to a degree, the whole atmosphere of the experience. It also depends on who's dining. I have a very good friend who's upper middle class and has money, but going out to eat is not his thing. He'll complain about paying $40 for a plate of pasta when he could make a similar dish at home for a fraction of that. You can point out, that someone is preparing the meal, bringing to you and cleaning up after and be appreciative of that, and for that person, going out to a nice place will give you a reasonably high degree of a nice evening, but it's not a guarantee.
The palm in Boston is amazing and I’ve always loved Ruth Chris. The sweet potato casserole from Ruth Chris is the most incredible sweet potato dish I’ve ever had. If you’ve never had it I promise you it’s life changing.
The thing about steak is it really depends on who's cooking it. I live near two different Outback restaurants, one of which is ok but the other has consistently fantastic steaks.
@@lancermc0360 I ate at Outback twice and was disappointed both times. Never again, Longhorn up the road is the best around here. We do have a private owned one here called West Texas roadhouse not to be confused with Texas roadhouse but it's themed in the same fashion. they have T bone Tuesday for 15 bucks and it's a 16 oz select T bone in which select is not a great cut of meat but they flame grill it and you get a small salad and side and it's well worth 15 bucks.
Texas Roadhouse has never let me down. For the money it is the best Steak you can buy. Being in the DFW Area though, if I want a steak that will make you just melt from shear satisfaction I go to Hard 8. It's not as wallet friendly as Roadhouse but it is definitely worth the money.
I like Texas Roadhouse. But I'm not that picky when it comes to steak. My one rule is if I have to put steak sauce on it, then it's not a good steak. My wife says the best steak she has ever had are the ones I cook on my grill.
Same! Longhorns for bang for buck all day plus I love the place, mac and cheese and strawberry shortcake 🍰 with vanilla ice cream 🎉 Long pour margaritas
Since relocating out of the US, Longhorn is the restaurant that I miss the most. Those Outlaw ribeyes were my go-to steaks. I think about them at least once a week. 😬
Took several years to figure out that I’d rather just cook my own steak. On the list I’ve done Salt Grass, Ruth’s Chris (NYC), Pondo, Bonanza, Outback, Logans, Longhorn, and Texas Roadhouse. Texas Roadhouse is where I end up now and I get Pork Chops.
Pork chop. Very interesting and good idea. I went to a local steakhouse (not on this list) and hands down the pork chops was the best thing and reasonably priced thing on the menu. Well marbled meat unfortunately I went once after the pandemic and they had taken it off the menu the porkchop doodoo I don't know slimming down their menu I don't really think it was supply chain issues but definitely was kind of sad
For me it's all about taste and value. I can make a great steak at home but sometimes you want someone else to do the cooking and enjoy a steak dinner with your family without any clean up. On those occasions, it's Texas Roadhouse hands down. Appetizers are so so, the sides are good enough, but that dinner roll with cinnamon butter and getting a dinner bill that doesn't break the bank makes the road house #1 for me.
We had lunch at Outback several times my wife and I over the years in Miami and in spite of what the lady says the food was always top notch and the price reasonable... Maybe we got lucky and we found the best Outback restaurant in the entire country 😄😄😄 As for thinking the food Outback serves is a true representation of typical Australian cuisine...Well...If some people are that naive... As for Smith and Wolensky we have one in South Beach... And yes, it's amazing...
Wow you must be lucky and or I have bad luck. In Georgia I’ve never had a good experience at an Outback. Haven’t been in a long time and probably will never go again. Last time my ribeye was literally like 30% chewy fat. So they brought me another and wasn’t much better. Not to mention they always seem to fail getting the temp I ordered right. Longhorn has gone downhill as well, I think they’re buying cheaper grade meats these days but still better than Outback. Was surprised to see Longhorn right behind Ruth’s Chris in this video. Texas Roadhouse is better than Longhorn here, as far as strictly steaks anyway because I do love Longhorn’s Wild West shrimp appetizer and other menu options. I guess restaurants can vary depending on locations/management ….etc
I used to agree, but over the last year the quality of the steaks at both have dropped significantly. As well as the real as opposed to claimed size of the steaks.
Longhorn has been my go-to steakhouse for the last two years. But for the last three to four months I have noticed that the size of the steak has shrunk by 50-60% and the quality has been going down as well. Tougher, less flavor more gristle. I decided after my last visit that it would be my last until I hear that the quality has returned.
@@stevehill3373 I see. I like medium rare filet mignons when I go to either, so I haven't had gristle or toughness issues. Although I couldn't resist the crusted chicken last night at Longhorn 😅 I had to get that instead. The dinner portion for that chicken is HUUUUUGEE! Plus you get 2 sides. Definitely worth the $17 for the chicken
I typically avoid chain steakhouses. If you’re traveling through beef country like where I live, you’re better served to find a small town no gimmicks bar and grill. They’re your best bet for a good piece of meat and good service. Plus they’re usually cheaper too!
In Nebraska a long time ago. The restaurant backed up to rail tracks and as we were coming in a load of rail cars with cattle was rolling by real slow. Based on the time of order to plating, damn I swear they lassoed one of them cows, slaughtered it and grilled it. I mean 2 hours to plate, Damn good steak!
I like the steak house on my patio, as we have a fantastic butcher down the street. He has grass fed and this Italian beef, which he assures me was massaged by Swedish Supermodels... That beef was was out of this world, Rib Eye... Cut it with a fork, and the marbling was insane, it melted in your mouth. I cook mine at high heat on my STOK grill, close to 700 degrees as I can get, thick cut around or close to 2" thick, around 8 minutes a side, comes out medium to medium rare... I cannot buy this in a steakhouse, and I have been to a few over the years.
Yeah man, we dropped $100+ pp at d** s****'s steakhouse, and it wasn't all that. I was thinking 'man, if I had a high end grill at home and a great butcher, I could beat this'. I always had my steaks cut 2 inches thick, I don't know how to grill a thin steak correctly. Hey, do you use wood or gas on that STOK? Have you cooked a pizza or grill stuff on it? --Chris
@@crankychris2 Let's see, I have cooked steaks, which everyone raves about, Salmon came out fantastic, Chicken is awesome and K'Bob's are the bomb. I love this stupid grill. I have not tried Pizza, but it does come with a stone to do just that, I would think Pizza would come out pretty darn good in this grill... I have had a couple high dollar units, the kids have the high dollar grills/smokers, I forget the name, the real popular ones, not cheap... I was never impressed enough with any of them to recommend to anyone... I paid around $160 for the STOK, when I moved out to North Dakota, I bought a second one when I was out there for work, it is that good. Home Depot sells them, I have two at the house right now here in Michigan... We use one almost daily in the grilling months. If you like to grill, I would highly recommend the STOK. I laughed when I first saw it, it was a hand me down from the kids who did not like it for some reason... After using it for several years, I would not trade this grill for any of their high dollar stuff, it is that good. Here is another find, that Ninja Foodi Grill... I cannot get over that either. I cooked a near three pound chuck roast in that thing the other day, I slathered it in olive oil, seasoned with Celtic brand Sea Salt, if you have never heard of this salt, not cheap, get some! Celtic Salt and a steak seasoning, seared it, then slow cooked for around an hour+ at around 250* to 300*, air fry and bake settings, I kind of baby sat and tweaked as I went along... Darn thing cut like butter, medium, nice crust, a Chuck roast! That stuff is normally like shoe leather when grilled or even slow cooked. I could not get over how good it came out, and either could my mother, who lives with me... She predicted disaster when I through it in that grill... I had the last laugh, she loved it, and said she will buy the next Chuck Roast, LOL! That Ninja Grill is very impressive, chicken and salmon... The air fried Chicken Quarters are the bomb, crispy skin and juicy as all get out... I cannot say I have gotten any bad dishes out of that silly thing. It sits on the counter full time and used almost daily, it is great for bacon and sausages too... I would highly recommend the Ninja Grill too. Hope this helps. ;-)
We have a Longhorn where I live and I love their steaks. Regardless of how you want it cooked, they do it right every time. I've eaten at a few of these "fancy" places and the one problem I always have is that my wallet empties out and I'm still hungry. It seems that the more it costs, the less impressed I become. JMHO. I'm not bashing the high end places, just can't see spending that kind of money for a good cut of meat.
We have 4 steak restaurants out West of town. Logans meat quality is awful, Outback is just all around bad and Lone Star just closed. The Longhorns is by far the best, until you pay big money for the gourmet Steak house in town.
Other than my trip to Japan, I've never had a better steak than at Morton's. I got a bone-in ribeye and I remember it being incredible. Super tender, flavorful and delightfully fatty. Also the mashed potatoes were incredible, at least that's what I remember.
I went to Japan Kobe and visited the farm, then had dinner there, its was out of this world and we weren't even served the best grade. When I returned home, every steak paled in comparison; I had to stop eating beef for a while LOL.
yea, for price id take saltgrass over most other offerings, and I worked in steakhouses for a decade. Is it amazing? no, but its also affordable and sometimes I'd rather a good $30 steak than a great $60 steak
I've always had goid meals from Outback , I'm not sure I should use your suggestions. Their steaks , chicken and ribs and all side dishes have always been top notch .
No matter what steakhouse you go to the results most often depend on who is on the grill. When our son worked in the private sector he was sought after by the steakhouses in whatever area he lived in and regular customers would ask if he was working that night that they came in.
@@paullee3996 Wrong. In a "high end restaurant" chefs don't lower themselves to cooking steaks. The ones you're talking about rarely serve steaks. Two of the top places mentioned here, Texas Roadhouse and Longhorn? He worked at both of them and in management at both.
When I lived in California, the very best tasting steak I even (and cooked perfectly) was a series of steakhouses called Pinnacle Peak. They raised their own cattle, and aged their own beef. Sadly, they are just a memory, like most of California.
My wife and I go to Texas roadhouse, Texas longhorn and outback. We order medium well sirloin, baked tator and steamed broccoli and we never complain. We add salt and pepper if necessary. That's it. I make steak at home too; on the grill, pan fried and in the oven and they're always delicious. I'm thankful that we don't complain about food. We are so thankful and content to get a decent meal because we are so blessed. So many people are so spoiled and ungrateful that they don't like what they get before they even taste it. Attitude of gratitude is always the best way to go. God bless you all and enjoy your delicious steak.
Nice reviews. I am a capital grille, Texas roadhouse and Ruth Chris fan with Cap and Ruth's have a very good wine list as well. One more small chain I will add to your review is Bobby Van's. A few in NYC and in Boston. There might be one in Miami as well. But this is a high price option with very good service and excellent steaks.
I'm the head bartender at my amazing FireBirds location. Our prime rib, garlic sirloin and Cajun ribeye are amazing. Hand cut daily. Beautiful restaurant with the waterfall display of prime liquor. We had 29 locations before the pandemic. After we changed our model, we've managed to open 4 more when we only supposed to open one.
Still as a Cajun myself Do wonder what a Cajun ribeye is? Never heard of it in the traditional aspect like Cajun gumbo, I am sure it’s just a steak seasoned with one of the popular Cajun seasonings out today! Thus my prior comment what is a Cajun steak a hamburger steak?
I took two cross country driving trips in 2016 & 2017 and spent a good portion of those miles trying to find a good steakhouse. I hit the chains and a number of one-only steak restaurants like the one inside Circus Circus in Vegas (poor choice) and Fabens, Texas Cattleman's Steak House (good choice). This video reaffirms my choice for a good chain like Texas Roadhouse where the food was flavorful, sitting at the bar was my preference and the bartenders were tops.
Sorry I didn't enjoy the experience and they didn't open till 4 pm my friends stepdaughter worked there they treated her bad and she has a great personality
No longer in business, but Lonestar was always the best. I've been there countless times at different locations with many different people and it's always more than expected. They know how to char a well done steak yet still leave pink in the middle which makes the perfect taste combination. Big cuts too.
I have had the pleasure of eating at many of these. Flemmings is near the top of the list and is much better than a Ruth Chris or Mortons if you had to choose between the three. My favorite everyday steak franchise chain restaurant is Longhorn. For average prices they do a really nice job.
Totally agree with The Palm being #1; have dined at the Vegas location just outside Caesars several times, and have always been wowed. Top of the heap!
My daughter worked at Texas Roadhouse when she was 16. It was her first job! I had to ask her to stop bringing me the rolls before I gained too much weight!! Haha! I worked at Mcguires 30 years ago! They are excellent!
I agree, i have NEVER eaten a bad steak at Texas Roadhouse! I rarely order steak at a restaurant, because i like my steaks cooked a certain way. When i finally tried TR (my family talked me into going), i was blown away by how tender and cooked exactly the way i like it was!!! Perfection!!! Every single time i eat there!
Texas Roadhouse gets major thumbs up for their consistentency. Ribs and sirloin steak are perfect every single time we've been there. Sides are very good and of course the rolls 👍
Yep, Yep Texas Roadhouse, always had a good steak. Did Longhorn a few times no complaints. Outback, myself like the burgers, whereas their beer taps are clean, tasty beer.
Woopdidoo! People who don’t travel outside the US don’t know what good food is. Had a steak dinner earlier today while visiting one of the major cities in Poland. The restaurant is called Evil Steakhouse. Had a nice 30 day aged Tomahawk steak with onion rings, local potatoes, and grilled corn. All for around 25$…
I work at Texas Roadhouse and when customers send their steaks back because they are over cooked I get excited cause us employees get to eat it. I dont know what they are complaining about cause those steaks are very good. Thank you picky customer.
Just commenting on outback....I actually live in Perth, Western Australia where we are a few hundred miles from the actual outback. We do have Outback steakhouse in the city but it's absolutely rubbish lol Fun Fact Taco Bell just opened up in Perth and apart from the novelty factor I have no expectations apart from a full crowd
Outback was very good when they first came to our area but they went way downhill since. I never go there any more. Texas Roadhouse is ok but they seem to overcook mine a lot. There are better choices for steak out than these.
We’ve had horrible prime rib at an Outback. The first time my husband asked for medium rare, and it came out very well done, and the next one was medium rare but half fat and gristle. He was still hungry when he left, and was sticker shocked at the price for such awful quality.
For an ordinary man. Texas Road House I grew up on a farm. And you can taste the earth the vegetables were grown in. That's what their vegetables taste like. Even tasting the grill on the meat. If you're a working man, that's a good place for you and the family.
I am a big steakhouse fan. I agree with most of this review. Best value is Longhorn. I had a great steak at Salthouse in Orlando. Smith and Wollensky experience was special when NY was their only restaurant. Not on the list was Chart House with their Pepper crusted or Houston’s Hawaiian glazed. Glad to see Shula’s…a close by favorite.
Bern's in Tampa. Aged meat of any cut, cut to any thickness you desire that you can slice with a fork.....yes, even well done is still tender. Organic vegetables grown in their own garden. You want fish instead? No problem. Go to a huge tank and pick the specific one you want....as in, its still alive and as fresh as you can get. They have world's largest wine cellar (which you can tour along with their kitchen where they will be more than happy to take the time to show/tell you how they prepare their food so you can do it at home) with over 600,000 bottles of wine. A great meal isn't much without great service. The average wait staff, of whom you will be assigned a team of 5, has been employed there for more than 20 years. When asked, they don't just make recommendations based on what the kitchen needs to get rid of. They're knowledgeable enough to tell you the details of the chemical interactions between the various food choices you're considering and that is the basis of their recommendations. You feel like dessert? You'll go to a completely different building next door and have an equally pleasant experience with spectacular choices in an amazing romantic atmosphere. TRULY Great food and great service. Not some schlock job with someone throwing food at you with a fake smile praying for a tip. The only problem is after you've eaten there, you'll realize your server at your favorite chain restaurant was probably working at a fast food joint less than a month ago and you will feel like its an insult to your dog to bring him the leftover gristle filled crap you get served at Roadhouse, Longhorn, Outback, et al.
Sadly I agree with Mortons, used to be great, last time I went, spent a fortune on a terrible, thin, grey, flavorless steak, while Longhorn gave me an amazing flavor filled, juicy ribeye.
From this list I go to Outback, Longhorn, or Texas Roadhouse. Usually it's because of gift cards from Credit Card points or whatnot. But if I want a good steak I go to a local steak house that's been around for over 30 years. Even got on the Food Network one time.
Ruth's Chris is the best out of that group I think. Excellent service and perfect states. Outback isn't terrible. It's just low end with amateurish service.
Capital Grille NEVER disappoints. I have been pleasantly surprised by the consistency between Chicago and Milwaukee. The seafood is almost as good as the steaks.
My favorite used to be Mortons but they moved their west suburban Chicago location several miles away so I go to Capital Grille or to a local non chain place near me for my every three months steakhouse fix. My mom passed away but she always preferred seafood and you are so right that Capital is really first rate - as good as our local high end seafood places.
I only recently tried a Longhorn's, and I was very surprised at how good it was. In my immediate area, I have an Outback, a Texas Roadhouse, a Saltgrass, and a Longhorn's. (There's a Ruth's Chris and a Capital Grille not too far either, but those are high dollar, and in a different league.) For the money, Longhorn's is absolutely the best deal for the price point. Really good steak at a very reasonable price. And the rest of the food (potatoes, etc) were very good also.
My favorite, for the money, is TX Roadhouse. Decent steak, well cooked for the price. But the best I've had was probably wagyu at Craftsteak in Vegas. Also really enjoyed Vaca Vieja - old beef - at Bazaar Meat (Vegas), the "Fabulous" filet at Charley's (Orlando), Charlie Palmers (D.C.) and most recently Del Friscos - last week- (also D.C.). It was a great dinner made better by my company picking up the tab. Next week is Lagasse's Delmonico (Vegas), perhaps. (Yes, not all of those are chains).
Charley's in Orlando...best steak ever! They cook it over a fire fueled with oak, orange and apple wood. Whenever we wanted to splurge on a dinner, That's where we went.
@@feistyoldgal8257 It is impressive. I've been there twice. The Fabulous is an 18 oz filet which is ridiculous. Used to be off menu, but now I think it is available to all. (Just checked...now 20 oz Center Cut Filet Mignon for $125! but no longer called Fabulous) . Their Key Lime Pie is awesome too.
The Ribeye is my favorite cut. I can’t believe Outback received such a low rating. I’m usually pleased with the Blooming Onion and I can’t recall ever being disappointed with my steak at least for the one in our area, Altoona, PA. Was at Morton’s in Pittsburgh many years ago (early 2000s) and only that one time. It was an excellent meal and the steak was very good. Texas Roadhouse has been very good, but haven’t been there that often. Longhorn Steakhouse is in our area and we have been there more times than any others.
@@crapschamp4206 Actually haven’t been to any of them since 2017. Came down with a serious illness, then the pandemic. Prior to 2017, maybe to Outback once a year same for the others. We buy our beef from a butcher shop and cook at home. A lot better off the Weber!
Yeah, I was surprised by Outback too. I mean I wouldn’t say they are as good as longhorn, but I’ve always had pretty good steaks from there. I’ve done Ruth’s Chris 2 times and both times were excellent, but can’t justify the cost when I just want a good steak. The one on this list I haven’t tried is Capital Grill and one recently opened near me, so next time I go out for steak, I think that will be the one I try.
Flemings is spot on. I’ve never been disappointed. Also I completely agree that Longhorn is the best of the casual chains. Finally, I was very happy to notice that the narrator kept referring to ordering your steak rare/ med rare for best quality. Anything over medium is dry and tasteless especially when ordering a quality cut. Well done video. Thanks
I totally agree - TRH is incredible, never a miss for me - steaks exactly how order. All others, including Ruth's Chris - hit or miss - and the misses really ouch at those prices.
I’m a regular at Texas Roadhouse. Their steaks are pretty good. However, I don’t like their kitchen manager. They’ve given me a sirloin claiming it was a ribeye. This happened 3 times and they always insist it’s a ribeye. They’re probably giving me the end cuts because the steaks they give me have no fat marbling.
I've been to most of these places and agree with all of them except for Morton's. I've been to Morton's in three cities multiple times over the last 15 years and have had phenomenal experiences every single time. I've never had less than a flawless steak, and I typically go for either a bone-in ribeye or a strip steak.
Agree not sure how them and Ruth’s Chris were so far apart. I find them almost identical and actually my wife likes Morton’s better. As a bald guy I dislike the no hats rule, but it’s worth it.
The BEST Steakhouse is at OUR house. I can grill a steak medium-rare that will satisfy all of my friends. The key is to buy a good cut; like a bone-in Ribeye or a tender Sirloin. Even a well-marbled Chuck Steak. NY Strip of Porterhouse are too grainy for us. And once you leave the world of medium, your steak will no longer be tender. My Dad always ordered his steak well, then I introduced him to medium-rare. The last 20 years of his life, he never ate an overcooked steak again. warm, red center is the way to go. Cooked but not burnt.
My wife was the same as your dad....everything well done for a decade or more until she tried medium-rare....pink is nothing to be scared of! OMG the revelation and the revolution in the taste buds :D
What is really funny is that I have had very good AND very disappointing steaks at Outback, Texas Roadhouse, and Saltgrass….could it be that it depends on which cook is on shift that night???
Co-signed. I've had shoot leather at Outback that was somehow a perfect medium rare. Yet the last steak I had there was so flavorful it made me rethink my own steaks.
I had a large medium rare ribeye at Saltgrass Steakhouse in Pensacola and it was cooked right, but way over seasoned. I got the same steak at Saltgrass Steakhouse in Biloxi and it was bigger and seasoned perfectly! So yes, the cook can make a big difference and also who is buying their meat and where they get it
I’ve given up on Outback but you’re spot on with that. I’ve got a handful of Texas Roadhouse’s and Saltgrass’ places that I’ll eat any time. Perfectly cooked, everytime.
Texas Roadhouse Has great food at reasonable prices. The noise factor can be loud. I try to go with a group. We make our own noise. I have also gone earlier with one person. The rolls are awesome. 💕
The absolute BEST place to eat a steak.... your own backyard. I have tried alot of steak places, and none of them come close to what I can cook for myself.... and at a fraction of the cost. Thank you GUGA for teaching me.
Tracks with my experience with the various steak houses. I see they skipped the Brazilian style ones like Fogo de Chao and Texas de Brazil, I was interested to see how they ranked. Texas Roadhouse is our go to cheap steak place, we have tried many. It does the job remarkably for the price. Flemings Filet is in fact amazing! And the full menu for a special occasion. Ruth's Chris and Shula's are both great for what they are, their steak never disappoints.
From NYC to the big island, Hawaii, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse is consistently delicious, hands down. There may be some locations of other chain restaurants that rival the taste, service and/or cost of Ruth’s but every one of the Ruth locations in which I’ve been blessed to dine are wonderful! Del Frisco’s is a close second!!
@@hawksrock3024 Perry’s is good, no doubt! I just haven’t been to different locations to say that the quality is consistent. Nobody can beat their pork entree!
While national, if you’re ever in CHI eat at Gibsons steakhouse. It’s pricey but hands down best steak/seafood I’ve ever had. (I travel a lot, the only benefit being I get to eat at a lot of nice places)
As a repeat customer, I have never been disappointed with Texas Roadhouse. Love their Ribeye best with steak fries and a salad . Of course, I always start with a bloomin onion ! Our local Outback and Logans have closed down.
Yep, our Logans was even better than Texas Roadhouse, but then they started cutting corners and they closed when people stopped going there. I wasn't impressed with the Outback we have, either. It's still hanging on, but I don't know how, rarely see anyone there.
Have always liked Texas Roadhouse, but my steak yesterday was tough and not very enjoyable. (Are they buying lower quality meat because of rising beef costs?….one has to wonder.)
There was a Texas Roadhouse in Daytona, FL and that was our favorite. Closed a few years ago. My wife and I loved the potato soup. Hard to find a good steak house these days but there is a Longhorn in Daytona, I will go try the Delmonico soon.
I was wondering what all the hype was about, and had the opportunity to visit a Texas Roadhouse in 2019. I ordered the ribeye and was pretty disappointed. I’m no chef, but I make a much better steak, either in a pan, or on the grill. It was tough, and the flavor was bland.
In all the times I've been to Texas Roadhouse, which has been quite a bit. I've only ever had one steak that wasn't great. That said, even though it wasn't great, it was by far better than any steak I've had at Outback.
@@dominicewing8940 I agree Texas Roadhouse serves a pretty good steak at a reasonable price and the only time I ever had a problem with what they served they took it back and brought a new meal. The servers were always nice though the atmosphere is a bit rowdy for me. Outback was awful the three different times I tried it at friends invitations.
I've had the same experience at Logan's Roadhouse. Both my son and I got outstanding steaks on our initial visit, but when we came back the next week, and ordered the same steaks and they were like trying to eat shoe leather. The price didn't change though, only the quality of the meat. So, it's kind of like gambling with your money. Sometimes you get a winner, other times you lose. I don't like gambling, so I've never returned to Logan's. LOL To be honest, the experience has been the same with grilling our own steaks at home. Buying the same cuts of meat at the same grocery store, yields vastly different results. One week the steak will be so tender you could cut if with a butter knife, the next weekend, we'd buy the same cut from the same grocer, and it would be tough as heck. I'm not made of money, so when I splurge on a nice Rib Eye, I expect it to be tender. But regardless of if I get it at a restaurant, or we grill it at home, it always appears to be a gamble. This is why when I feel the desire to spend a bit on a special meal, I go with Seafood. I've never had a tough shrimp. LOL I really love a good steak, but I hate to waste the money on a steak and find out that I should have eaten a hamburger instead.
I've had a great ribeyes at Outback, and Sizzler back in 1982. But they opened a Sizzler near me in 2012 and the steak sucked. I also had a great steak at Red Lobster back in the 90's but I ordered one a few years ago and it sucked. Looks like the quality of the steak is going down fast 🙁
Longhorn is my favorite for flavorful steaks at a fair price. All their steaks are great and so are their side dishes and deserts. Their service is excellent with minimal wait time after ordering
30 years ago Morton's Steakhouse had every one of these places beat by a mile. Over the last several years sadly, like every place else, they too have leveled off to just regular.
Living in Phoenix, I went to a number of these on the list. Head and shoulders above was Morton’s with Ruth’s Chris a distant second and they were practically next-door to each other. Living in SF now, I may have to make a return trip. They can’t be happy to be ranked behind Ruth’s Chris now 😄
@Slim Pickens son I live in a part of the country with some of the world's best steak houses. Not a single person would be caught dead in a Mortons now. It's living off a name it built 20 years ago with zero quality or consistency. You want the best? Peter Luger, Jake's, Smith & Wolinski or Gallagher's. DelFriscos and COTE are also at the top....but I wouldn't expect someone who isn't cultured to know that who thinks Mortons is good.
Longhorn is easily the best out of the more budget friendly steakhouse options in my opinion. Their Outlaw Ribeye is better than any of the steaks at Roadhouse, Saltgrass or Outback. Ive been to them all. Add in their parmesan crusted chicken meal and several good appetizer options and its not even close to me.
Yes, we are seniors. Not eating inside now. That outlaw ribeye is big enough for us both. It is tender and delicious. I just get an extra loaded baked potato and we are good.
The Longhorn near me is hit or miss. Sometimes the steaks are good, and sometimes they are nothing but gristle. Also, sometimes they will cook a good medium rare, and sometimes they burn it to a crisp.
@@meyou245 We have two here, a "good one" and a "bad one". The good one has been consistently good for the last 15 years. The bad one I've only been to twice, three years apart, but both times were disappointing.
Go to Brazilian steak house
@@vildachaya6462 Tucanos would be the better deal on Brasilian. Foco De Chao charges $135 per person. I'll stay at home and cook for family and friends. I have had them come from New York to New Mexico to try one of mine. (No Brag, Just Facts)

Thanks for your service George, I hope you get to beat that steak one day!!!

Thank you for your service! You deserve an excellent steak every day!

Welcome home!
The sirloin my dad cooked over charcoal in my old busted wagon were the best, so were his ribs and chicken. We were poor but splurged on Sunday meals after church.
Texas road house now you like it , make up your mind
Same here, my Dad can slow cook a sirloin and it's better than Any steak I've ever eaten out.
I’ve only ever driven past them. I will try it now.
Yes Texas Roadhouse is the goat. They're so good they forced our one and only Chilis out of business
Heck even Texas Roadhouses chili is better than Chili's chili 😆
Laredo
You're right about that I however won't travel far to find out I give up after wasting my hard earned money twice .
I loved the ponderosa chopped steak burger ( hamburger), it along with the salad bar was fantastic. The actual steaks gave me an upset stomach, must have been the tenderizer.
In my experience, it really doesn't matter what steakhouse you dine at, all that matters is "who's in the kitchen?"
Yes and at high end steakhouses chances are you’re going to get a perfectly good and quality steak
@@hankscorpio1973 Likely for 25 or 30% less cost as well.
💯
... a restaurant is only as good as the cook are ...when they leave quality changes every time ...
Texas Roadhouse is my favorite steakhouse.
I just ate at one this week for the first time in a decade. My husband is a steak snob and he said it was really good.
Texas Roadhouse is awesome. I always tell my friends, don’t get fooled by the decor!
The Texas Roadhouse CEO passed away at the beginning of Covid due to suicide and I remember seeing hundreds of posts on LinkedIn with stories just like this one. That man was a man of true character. RIP
Texas Roadhouse is one of my favorite!
I think it takes more than one visit to truly find the best steak house. For example, I've only been to Salt Grass once and wasn't very happy with the steak. I'd be willing to go a few more times before I'd cut them out completely. I've been to Texas Roadhouse lots of times and have been happy nearly every time.
Since I've learned to make a high quality steak on my own, I've not been satisfied with most restaurant steaks
Then your doing it right, I’m same way
Same. I went to Longhorn last week with my family and was very underwhelmed with the N.Y. stip I had. I age and season my own steaks at home and they are amazing.
Exactly this!!! Even our kids say daddy your steaks taste better!!! Makes me smile inside!!!
@@glennyates2194 Yes, but the ribeye is better.
TX roadhouse is underrated in my opinion. its not the best steakhouse, but it definitely has its qualities... AND its not overpriced!
You said waiter but then you said she.
Assuming it was a waitress maybe she was trying to pick up on you.
@@dpz9872 Maybe. But I've been to other TR restaurants and the employees are usually happy working/providing nice customer service. Unlike the ones working in retail.
W O W !! Waitress wanted u to take a bite first?? THAT IS A CUT ABOVE the REST!!!

That char grill seasoning for the ribeye is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Agreed
The filets have been tender and tasty.
Longhorn and Texas Roadhouse are my favorites,👍
Exactly!! Room temp and super hot skillet! I love my steaks!
'Nuff said!
Try dry brining. Pat dry and salt well. place on a rack over a tray and leave it in the fridge for two hours/up to a day.
Have you any experience with reverse searing ?
Yes! The older I get, the more I prefer my own cooking! Plus, I know what's in it!
Dude, Texas sucks balls
Have to agree. While I can do without the kitschy country theme, TR's food is always consistent and their staff has their s*it together. I've never had a bad meal or poor service there.
@@greendryerlint if I had one complaint it is that it is always very loud at Texas Roadhouse. The decor doesn’t bother me one way or the other.
Ruth’s Chris cooking method is hard to beat, I’ve traveled coast to coast & lived in Kansas City for 5 years & have never found a more consistently good steak & their sides are quality as well
Ruth's coat their poor cuts of meat in butter so you can't taste the meat. Obese Americans love butter so it is a hit with the masses.
Totally agree back in the day, their Rib Eye was the best. Both Ponderosa and Bonanza.
Agree 100% I'm 70 and still remember taking my mother to eat those restaurants. She loved the food.
I buy prime ribeye caps and prime NY strips from Costco. Cook them on my commercial grill on the patio. Absolute perfection- no need to dine out and pay premium $$$
Still like my hibachi.
Don't think I've tried Costco steaks. But I have had some of their other meats. Not a disappointment. I've been going to Publix for my steaks. My Son in law got me hooked on it!! He's a great griller and cook!
cosco meat is good if you know how to pick your meats. I am with you.. good stuff and with good friends you can not go wrong.
Ask for sirloin caps too less expensive
What is a ribeye cap?
I have eaten at 3/4 of these steakhouses and I paid the bill at each, so I can be totally honest. The toughest steak I ever had was at Fleming's. Shula's was good but totally overpriced. Ruth's Chris was one of the best. Texas Roadhouse was not quite as good, but I can eat there 5-7 times for the price of one meal at Ruth's Chris. Order the bone-in ribeye, medium rare at Texas Roadhouse...you can thank me later.
If Flemings was tough I can just imagine what Outback provides, which is the step down from Flemings, LOL
I agree !!!
I’d go to Texas Roadhouse over any of these other places any day.

Longhorn is actually pretty damn decent. It is a shame that they don’t have prime rib anymore but it’s still one of my go to for a decent steak at a decent price
Longhorn for the win! Not over priced and always delicious!!
I’m glad to see Longhorn getting some love here. I guess I’m not the only one that thinks you get a really damn decent steak for a good price.
Of all these mentioned Longhorn is hands down my favorite love the outlaw ribeye!! That being said I can grill myself and prepare and season it to my perfection and it’s better than any of these places at a fraction of the cost and my family will verify that they love my grilling!!
I was looking for this comment... I totally agree on both counts, but when I'm travelling Longhorn is a favorite stop.
Nice to hear Texas Roadhouse gets your up vote... and that Roadkill steak is pretty good. But even more happy to see Longhorn so high on the list. We go to both and have never been disappointed.

@@Adam-082 I'll agree to overpriced, but idk if I can top their steak (even though I'm pretty good with a cast iron)
Ruth’s Chris to me is the most overrated steak I’ve ever had I didn’t dislike it but just didn’t think it was that good
I has the worst steak at Ruth Cris ever. $ 75 special
It was suppose to be stuffed with crab, it wasn’t.
Best steaks I have ever had in my life.. are the one I make at home!
Is it a national chain?
Best steak I ever had was also in Nebraska. Just my own personal taste, I like the flavor of the beef that is raised in Nebraska. I've eaten plenty of steak all around the country and the world that was excellent, but there is something in the flavor of Nebraskan beef that just tastes right to me, I have no idea why that is though.
Just tried Longhorn Steakhouse with a few friends. We were blown away it was so good. Going back there for sure.
I was looking for the Long Horn comment. Never been disappointed!
A bone in filet is a porterhouse
I totally agree. The Outback Steakhouse in North Charleston, SC. is awesome!
I agree way back I tried longhorn in Tampa and the steak was tough . Then went to another with family and I experienced tough steak again . I stopped trying to and it was many years ago . If they have improved or not ill never know because I never go to strike 3.
Yes this is a common thing I notice in the video and the thread about outbacks vs Longhorn specifically...
Well I have tried two Outbacks in Washington state and BOTH lousy! There is 2 more that makes 4!
... that aren't* enough samples. Otherwise completely agreed.
There are a few Ruth’s in Atlanta. Closest one is probably the Kennesaw location.
CB. I am near the Chamblee area, and usually go to Longhorn or Outback. Since eating Keto, I have never eaten so many steaks in my entire life ! ❤️
@Slim Pickens . Then, clearly you have not studied up on the benefits of Keto. It is for HEALTH reasons, Slim. And contrary to what you are thinking……it is actually working !
My husband and I were just talking about the Ruth’s Chris in New Orleans last night!
Flo & lobster tail comboo
Finally a honest video worth watching! I'm so tired of people salivating over foods just to be nice to the cooks!❤💯
Try it with vanilla ice cream a la mode if you haven't already you'll thank me
The thing about steak is it really depends on who's cooking it. I live near two different Outback restaurants, one of which is ok but the other has consistently fantastic steaks.
My local one is very good
The seasoning on Outback steakhouse is my favorite!
Outback. Seriously not a steak
Honestly never been disappointed at an Outback. Service always really good , reasonable pricing and good food- not amazing but always good.
I love outback!!!
Me either. Their prime rib is delicious.
Texas Roadhouse has never let me down. For the money it is the best Steak you can buy. Being in the DFW Area though, if I want a steak that will make you just melt from shear satisfaction I go to Hard 8. It's not as wallet friendly as Roadhouse but it is definitely worth the money.
I live in Florida and tried TR for the first time on Saturday - it was excellent! Best steak I’ve ever had - I even went back the next night!
Agreed decent place to eat I’ve been to many high dollar steak place but Texas road house is always good
I like Texas Roadhouse. But I'm not that picky when it comes to steak. My one rule is if I have to put steak sauce on it, then it's not a good steak. My wife says the best steak she has ever had are the ones I cook on my grill.
@@davidduggan5548 Agree - TR is the first place I found where the steak doesn’t need steak sauce.

Longhorn and Texas Roadhouse are our usual go to's. You just can't beat either of them for a good, well priced steak.
That's true, though I like the steaks at Longhorn a bit more and their sides are way better across the board.
@@jimlittle5769 agreed!!!
I agree, nearly every steakhouse I've ever dined at, the steaks were never as good as the ones I grill at home .
Same. I can get a a5 wagyu and cook it how i like it for the price of a striploin at a decent restaurant.
Can't go wrong with some nice fat chops.
Why don’t y’all open your own restaurants if y’all are so good at cooking steaks
They use Select meat, though. The actual steak is very low quality.
We had lunch at Outback several times my wife and I over the years in Miami and in spite of what the lady says the food was always top notch and the price reasonable...
Maybe we got lucky and we found the best Outback restaurant in the entire country 😄😄😄
As for thinking the food Outback serves is a true representation of typical Australian cuisine...Well...If some people are that naive...
We have a great one in North Myrtle Beach, SC.
The descriptions of longhorn steakhouse and texas roadhouse are perfect. Those are my favorite places to go
I used to agree, but over the last year the quality of the steaks at both have dropped significantly. As well as the real as opposed to claimed size of the steaks.
@@stevehill3373 I have noticed the size change at texas roadhouse, however the price and flavor haven't changed at my local ones
I usually got the 8oz Renegade Sirloin. The last time it was about 3oz and about 20% fat and gristle.

Your spot on with that.
Next time do 4 minutes on each side flip 4 times instead of 2 times. Will be even better next time.
@@kareemebanks3785 I will give that a try, TY!

The Outlaw Ribeye is friggin fantastic!
Flo’s Filet is 🤌🏼
Hate this place as the put some kind spice that's very hot, tongue was on fire !!!
We have 4 steak restaurants out West of town. Logans meat quality is awful, Outback is just all around bad and Lone Star just closed. The Longhorns is by far the best, until you pay big money for the gourmet Steak house in town.
You must be under oath, because that's nothing but the truth!!!
Other than my trip to Japan, I've never had a better steak than at Morton's. I got a bone-in ribeye and I remember it being incredible. Super tender, flavorful and delightfully fatty. Also the mashed potatoes were incredible, at least that's what I remember.
When ownership changed it went a little downhill

My fav is also Morton's. I've eaten at few different ones around the country.
I went to Japan Kobe and visited the farm, then had dinner there, its was out of this world and we weren't even served the best grade. When I returned home, every steak paled in comparison; I had to stop eating beef for a while LOL.
I worked at Mortons for 6 years from 1998 to 2004... the steak was amazing...
Saltgrass is usually pretty good. Honestly they have my favorite prime rib. Even after having it at much nicer restaurants
yea, for price id take saltgrass over most other offerings, and I worked in steakhouses for a decade. Is it amazing? no, but its also affordable and sometimes I'd rather a good $30 steak than a great $60 steak
The best steakhouse and value for my money is in my backyard , Prime rib eye, tri-tip etc... grilled over post oak.

Longhorn has a 7 pepper rub, that the other steakhouses cant duplicate.
Totally agree with The Palm being #1; have dined at the Vegas location just outside Caesars several times, and have always been wowed. Top of the heap!
For a chain, I've always had good luck at Longhorn, very consistent and good quality. :)
My daughter worked at Texas Roadhouse when she was 16. It was her first job! I had to ask her to stop bringing me the rolls before I gained too much weight!! Haha! I worked at Mcguires 30 years ago! They are excellent!

I do love Capital Grille in Providence RI.
But is Bern’s a chain??

Sadly I agree with Mortons, used to be great, last time I went, spent a fortune on a terrible, thin, grey, flavorless steak, while Longhorn gave me an amazing flavor filled, juicy ribeye.
From this list I go to Outback, Longhorn, or Texas Roadhouse. Usually it's because of gift cards from Credit Card points or whatnot. But if I want a good steak I go to a local steak house that's been around for over 30 years. Even got on the Food Network one time.

Capital Grille NEVER disappoints. I have been pleasantly surprised by the consistency between Chicago and Milwaukee. The seafood is almost as good as the steaks.
I love Ruth Chris, Morton's and Capital Grill especially the Capital Grill in NYC! Del Frisco's and Fleming's are also on the top of the list
Ate Longhorn last night and was surprised how good my steak was

The filet is the best Everytime
@@kat517 I prefer a ribeye. Filets lack the fat they need for max flavor. But to each their own.
The prime rib 8 oz for 20$
Cant beat it
Charley's in Orlando...best steak ever!
They suck .the breads ok stake too small for the price .if it was bigger but I like anges porter house.
I like the ribs and Alice Springs chicken at Outback but if I am in the mood for steak then I will choose Longhorn.
They're not a bad tasting restaurant they're just chincy.
Thanks
Agreed
Flemings is just a more expensive Outback. Its literally owned by Bloomin Brands... the company that also owns Outback.
I’ve never had a disappointing experience at TRH, love their Ribeye.
I totally agree - TRH is incredible, never a miss for me - steaks exactly how order. All others, including Ruth's Chris - hit or miss - and the misses really ouch at those prices.
@@jonathonsimon7770 I ate at Ruth Chris once and the steak was amazing but too expensive for my taste. For the value TRH is king.
I used to like TRH. However, the past two times I visited the food was horrible. Never again.
TRH took their fried mushrooms off the appetizer menu. I enjoyed them more then the steak.
I've been to most of these places and agree with all of them except for Morton's. I've been to Morton's in three cities multiple times over the last 15 years and have had phenomenal experiences every single time. I've never had less than a flawless steak, and I typically go for either a bone-in ribeye or a strip steak.
That one kind of baffled me as well... Eaten there also multiple times in a few different cities and completely agree.
Agree not sure how them and Ruth’s Chris were so far apart. I find them almost identical and actually my wife likes Morton’s better. As a bald guy I dislike the no hats rule, but it’s worth it.
Sandra?
I agree. I like the steaks at Morton's.
Same. Morton’s has always been wonderful every time for me and I’ve been to most on this.
I'd have to agree with the Longhorn being the best for the price, especially when you factor in consistency in their quality.
I totally agree that the best steaks are at home. Bar none.
My wife was the same as your dad....everything well done for a decade or more until she tried medium-rare....pink is nothing to be scared of! OMG the revelation and the revolution in the taste buds :D
I used to love Bonanza and Ponderosa they had when they first opened the best T-bones.
I live a block away from a Flemings Prime Steakhouse. I've spent an ungodly amount of money there. Well worth it.
Yes, I've never had a bad cut of meat at Fleming's.
Love Fleming’s, and they have fantastic happy hour specials for food and drinks at the bar.
So nice to see delicius cooking here from diffrent countrys I live in europa must say bravo bravo Bravissimo ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Absofreekinlutely
I had a large medium rare ribeye at Saltgrass Steakhouse in Pensacola and it was cooked right, but way over seasoned. I got the same steak at Saltgrass Steakhouse in Biloxi and it was bigger and seasoned perfectly! So yes, the cook can make a big difference and also who is buying their meat and where they get it
yes, it really depends on this almost any steakhouse you go to
I’ve given up on Outback but you’re spot on with that. I’ve got a handful of Texas Roadhouse’s and Saltgrass’ places that I’ll eat any time. Perfectly cooked, everytime.
20 years ago, "for the money" Outback would be on top. Now, I agree that Longhorn is the best for the money.
Hey, a good head nod for the Texas Roadhouse, my favorite steak chain :)
Thats not possible because these chains buy a higher quality meat than you can get at the grocery store.
And Taste of Texas
Couldn't agree more! We have a Gaucho's Brazilian Steakhouse here that beats any other chain steakhouse in our area!
Brazilian is best. Frahldina at Fogo or filet at Texas de Brazil. Better than Morton's or Ruth's Chris.
They better be at those prices!!
Agree. Never had a bad steak there. Best sangria too.
Perry's beats them all in my opinion.
@@hawksrock3024 Perry’s is good, no doubt! I just haven’t been to different locations to say that the quality is consistent. Nobody can beat their pork entree!
@@vc8my There isn't anything good in the northeast, so I doubt it.
While national, if you’re ever in CHI eat at Gibsons steakhouse. It’s pricey but hands down best steak/seafood I’ve ever had. (I travel a lot, the only benefit being I get to eat at a lot of nice places)
Echo that! I’ve only been once but…d@mn good!!!
I agree. Been there once. Place is legit!!!
Another echo… used to live up there and it’s my favorite. That baked potato is as big as a football!
Not bad for celebrity sightings either!
Bonanza is still open? Haven't seen one in over 40 years back in Jersey
I saw a Ponderosa near Chicago last week.
@@Semiam1 Really where?? I have family in the Chicagoland area & haven't seen a Ponderosa in about 20yrs !!!
30 years here.
Loved the freshtastic food bar and grilled chicken main
Was thinking the same thing, I worked there in HS, eons ago
@@aqueminiqueen7 May have been closed but the sign was up. I was all over from Alsip to Elk Grove. Somewhere between there.
Have always liked Texas Roadhouse, but my steak yesterday was tough and not very enjoyable. (Are they buying lower quality meat because of rising beef costs?….one has to wonder.)
The founder died back in March, wonder if they're going to start slipping now that he's not around.
The best ribeye steak I've ever had, was at a O'Charley's, and the worst ribeye I've ever had was at another O'Charley's.
Both the best and worst for me were at the same O'Charleys.
That happened to me too
I've had the same experience at Logan's Roadhouse. LOL
To be honest, the experience has been the same with grilling our own steaks at home.
@@Bundy714 Go with Filet Mignon...they are never tough...
Ate at the Palm with my Dad in 1966. Best steak ever and a great memory. My Dad loved steak and so do I!
Longhorn is my favorite for flavorful steaks at a fair price. All their steaks are great and so are their side dishes and deserts. Their service is excellent with minimal wait time after ordering
My favorite also !! I just love Longhorn !!
Outlaw ribeye is where it's at!!! The prime rib is awesome as well.
They can’t be happy to be ranked behind Ruth’s Chris now 😄
Morton’s started on Morton Grove IL. They gad great steaks but like everything that expands and franchises out the quality get affected.
Morton's is WILDLY overrated.
Yeah, in the 90s I used to frequent Morton's more than any other in the Boston area ... but I haven't been to one now in years.
Their Mac and Cheese is such a good side too.
Longhorn is amazing. I was pumped when they built a new one right in my little home town last year. The house beer is delicious!
I’m really excited to try the 35 ounce tomahawk from outback! Thank you for the recommendation guys that looks amazing
That's about 1kg, about 4x my capacity.
