  • While Marc is on a contract job, I share what else we have been up to behind the camera. We also wanted to ensure that we were ok to share because we needed to figure out how to handle things and if it was a good time to share what was happening on the ranch. The horses were completely free, and we were so lucky to have an opportunity to learn more about this mysterious, beautiful animal. It will continue to be a journey, but this will be worth having on our ranch in the long run. We are so focused on covered parking and getting the animals situated before winter to where the shop is being covered. We will have to wait until the end of the fall this year, but we are determined to complete it. Following us on Facebook, you will see sneak peeks at the shop's momentum and progress.
I talk about how important it is to be an equal partner to my dear husband and how important it is to work just as hard as him, and he does the same. When I am at the hospital, I know he is in a long house because he wakes up with me early and also heads to work. I love that we clearly understand that we should never give up on each other and our dreams.

With your hilly property, those horses will need their feet filed regularly, otherwise they can grow misshapen from standing on sloped ground. They also should have at least a few acres of paddock. Horses are prey animals, they are flighty. It could be 6 months before you can get close. Good luck. Saying this with love & respect to you & your wonderful family. 😊

I have had horses, so I hope this will help. Please, take a bucket along to put your treats into. Feeding out of hand is not a good idea. It makes horses pushey for the sweet treats and can cause them to bite if you do not have treats every time you approach them. You want them to find their safety in you every time you are around them, not just because you have treats. I am happy that you want to learn all you can before assuming such a big responsability. Slow and steady is the best way to go. I owned a work horse for 15 years and was never hurt by him. Trust and calm activity is your best insurance against being injured. Never be in a rush to do work with your horse. I am so excited for your adventure ahead.

A horse won’t just lay down like that if it’s not comfortable with you 👍I also wanted to say I TOTALLY agree with you about creating things with your own hands !! It just makes it all more valuable due to the memories and it’s the way you want it

Horses are expensive. Check with your local vet. Vets know the in and out of large animals. Good luck.

Its about a minimum of 2 acres per head of cows. 40 acres = about maximum of 20 head of cattle. Your land is not a high fertility patch of land so I would not count on the 2 acres per head being enough on that scrub land. Add in horses and you will need to count them in the mix for feed and grazing. Shelters would need to be somewhat separated for different reasons,... You really need to rethink just how useful your property is for pastures of varying purposes. Horses need more human interaction than cattle unless you're milking the cows... So an arena for the horses, Tack and room for that - stables for shelter because horses aren't communal sleepers.(Wild horses are slightly different because the wild ones group up for safety) Cows can handle herd sleeping. Just give it a little more thought as to the uses you have for each type of animal. And then there's veterinary concerns as well as farriers for the shoes etc.

I looked at this and had a bit of a think. You have done so well with your patch of the mountain and things are progressing very well but I think that it maybe a bit soon to introduce Horses. They can be very dependant and hard work. I am not saying yes and I not saying no, please have a good look at this as I fear that they may take over. I wish you luck with whatever you decide. Thanks for posting....

I’m excited for you guys getting the horses. I hope it happens.
Have you thought about a donkey to keep with the cows and horses?
Great Pyrenees are supposed to be the best breed for livestock guard dogs.
Where I used to live we only had 3 seasons: Winter, Mud, Getting ready for next winter 😂

My neighbor runs a rescue for horses. When she gets new rescues or when we have fires anywhere in our general area we let her and other people use 20 of our fenced in acres for a place to keep horses. I dont know crap about horses, but it cool to have some visit and “mow” our pasture.

What a beautiful field they live on now. Too bad they need to move.
Seems a LOT of work and additional cost for you. I feel bad that they won't have that beautiful wide open space, or will they?
