Life is so beautiful and so fun espessially when building an offgrid homestead on our Mountain. This channel is a family vlog style to show the raw futage of what happends behind the main project and all the extras. This is for cooking, gardening, extra DYI projects and answering questions that deserve a live answer from our viewers and friends.
We say GOODBYE to 2 FARM ANIMALS | We REALLY NEED to improve our PIG PEN 🐖#vlog
We have had our pigs for some time now. This is the first year where we have had pigs go out for sale as pork meat. In the last coupld of years we have had mostly pigletts and that is how we have been able to sustain our operation. But it appears that we need to have another way to market our port through direct sales in the fall.
We have really loved having our pigs have so much room to move around and get their walks in, but we really need to imporve our pig pen, for better seperation, and loading and offloading.
I hope you find the joys that we feel as farmers and the frusteration of dealing with angry sows.

Переглядів 6 тис.12 годин тому
Along with the horses a lot of equipment came with them, but we are not sure yet weahter its salvagable or just needing to be thrown away. Horses are doing great, we have an appointment for them at the end of the month to get their teeth floated, a full check up and a farrier will meet us there to check their hooves. Our neighbor who is a horseman also helped us try to figure out what we need o...

We Weren't Sure About This!! Brought Home 3 Horses after 8 years unworked!
Переглядів 31 тис.Місяць тому
PLEASE READ: These horses haven't been worked with for around 8 years. They have spent their time together out to pasture with very little interraction. We have been taking time throughout the summer to come and make contact with them and attempt to interact closely with them. They have been very shy and wanting to maintain distance. We weren't sure if they would ever come around and be rideabl...

Another job out of the way! Always feels good!
I think I’ve probably mentioned it before but, grandma always said: Never name your food 😆
Now, that’s creative!!!
Love love love y'alls videos. Do y'all sell your pork meat? We would love to buy some in bulk. We live in Texas. Thanks for always sharing. Stay safe and warm. Much respect.🥰🤗🐖
Did you get a new tire for the trailor while in town?
Nice work guys stay warm
good job!
Pig wrestling is always so fun
I seen you can get zip ties that act as chains would.
Nice Job guys!!
They need to be hungry!!
Should have put food in the trailer…
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Thank you very much for your wonderful videos. Your lives are truly amazing adventures... If you have time, please watch this show from Canada "Hidden Spring Farm"
You need a cattle prod for your cows and pigs.
Did you see on the news that in Ohio a 75 year old women was killed by her neighbor's 2 pigs on Christmas. She was leaving to go to a nieces house for dinner.
My friends lived on her road. It happened in Pataskala Ohio. Please be careful around pigs!!
Pig chute. You need to scope out some of that iron that you keep bringing home
Ola. Thanks for walking up. Mark is truly scary
Best of luck to you with the horses. You will learn from each other. Thank you for rescuing them.
Pigs are solid muscle from tail to oink
Good afternoon !!! 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
I think Pete from just a few Acres Farm does it best. He Parks his livestock trailer just as you did, and uses it as a Feeding stall for about a week prior to taking them to the butcher that way they are used to going in and out every day. On the final day just close the trailer door behind them
Super pigs glad you didn't get to hurt. they needed some calm down meds.
Never run out of Diesel, your right when you say that they are there to produce and not as pets. Still a bit of income is always handy. Thanks for posting....
When backing up to a precision spot, carefully estimate the distance you still have to come back. In the truck, roll down your window and find a good target on the ground alongside the truck, stick your arm out the window and point to a spot that's the estimated distance away from your target, then with your arm held stationary back up until you're pointing at the target. You'll likely be close enough depending on how good you eyeball distances.
Hi Ola, My Grandpa had a white board 3x2’ handle on the short side, and a stout stick to guide them. He always remained calm and could sort a boar from between the sows easier than anyone in the district. Try it using a board each next time? Love the show♥️
That’s a fantastic idea and it’s light weight too. Thank you thank you great advice ~ Ola
I love watching your channel!
Thank you so much.
Animals. They never do what you want. You are right you need somewhere you can funnel them. If you can get hold of anymore of those scaffold poles you used to make your solar rigs you could fashion some kind of gate that you can have retract out of the pen on wheels with a lever to drop it into the ground. I have seen such systems used with sheep, though the steel isn’t as strong as that you need for strong, healthy adult hogs. But it’s all a learning process. If you manage to walk out without any injuries, well none serious then it’s a good day. 😎
Heavily edited highlights huh😂 Fun to hear about your battle. Well done again!
I see a lot of good advice for patience with the horses. I grew up breaking and training horses. Although what I do is not typically "breaking" but gentling the horse. I do not approve of harsh measures, and when done properly in a round coral, I can get a horse to trust, usually within a half hour and am in the saddle within an hour. I have never had a horse buck that I was gentling but have been on some buckers. It took me a long time to come up with the method that I use. I didn't understand why it worked only that it did. I went to a seminar many years ago, just south of you at the Golden Spike Arena in Ogden, Utah. It was there that I learned why my methods worked. The man giving the seminar, used the identical procedures that I used in a round coral, only he had spent a lot of time learning by watching how horses respond to each other in the wilds of Nevada. While he learned how mustangs spoke using their bodies, he came up with the language of "Equis". This man is or was the owner of the Flags up ranch in California. I suggest finding anything you can on Monty Roberts. He is a horse whisperer. I now live in Sheridan, Wy. and have had the great opportunity to speak with Buck Brannaman on different occasions. You can find his movie "Buck" on Netflix. He is another brilliant horse whisperer. I don't know if it is because all 3 of us suffered as the horses did, at the hands of our fathers, my stepfather, as the horses did. And because of this found a solace in these beautiful animals, causing us to search for a better way to befriend them. All I know is that if you will do some research into these men, that you WILL find your answers. If I end up back down in Evanston visiting my mother, I would love to take the opportunity to come and meet your horses and spend some time even with you guys and pass on what little knowledge I can onto you. The key tool that we all share is a proper round corral. Blessings on you all and especially those fine friends of yours.
Thank you. I am going to look into that movie and thank you for your advice, very well explained.
Are the tail suppost to be like that? Good luck with them . Real nice looking !stay safe now. Mike Peabody,Massachusetts 10:24
We cut their tails. Their hair was knotted with burs and it was hard as a rock, it looked like it’s been there for years.
6:34 Love the video bombing calf!!😂 Definitely takes after Delores
We're their tales matted?
Yes really bad of no recovery.
Sometimes, if you let them set a couple of hours w baby oil on them, for burs and mats, it's amazing. Best wishes❤
Treats and talking with grooming goes a long way! You guys are so sweet to love these special animals!!❤️❤️
Hi Marc and Ola, horses take patience, love, and dedication .I had a few Friesians, I used to show. Good hay or pony grass ,oats . Have a pocket full of carrots or apples n pears cut in 1/2 you'll have their attention
Time and patience and those horses will be your best mates. You are doing great with them.
Good job!... too many haters on youtube!
You need to get some sand in that paddock so the horses have a level place to walk...before they injure themselves more.... need vet check......how can you help with knee, you don't have much horse knowledge...you might be making things worse....wait and see what vet advises.
When the leather is dry, put it in a warm area and let it come to room temperature. Then put several coats of neatsfoot oil on them
I went through the same thing with horse tack. Wash and then rub in several coats of olive oil. Best way to handle old saddles. Can do the same with leather horse bridles. Keep up the good work and ignore the neigh-sayers! It’s your outfit and you’ll do what YOU see fit! 🫶🏻
Saturate everything leather in neetsfoot oil. That's what I used on my tack for years.
Have to agree to disagree On that one, but to each their own❤
Clever Cowgirl loves saddles and repairs them, can maybe help with ideas for you. She is not far away in Montana
Love CC
proper sized tack for each horse is most important. each should have their own halter bridel saddle saddle pad lead rope horse blanket , grain bucket water bucket each one will use 2- 5 gal water buckets of water each day in the winter blanket them in 40 degree weather and under
Terrel over at Busted Wagon Ranch has horses. Him and Heath have done lots of riding. Can either one of them help you?
Yes we actually are talking with Terrel:) he helped us figure out the leg treatment.
@@MountainMaplewithaSideofranch Good deal. I was hoping he would offer advice on handling them as well. 1 piece of advice I can offer is the way to an animals heart is thru his stomach. Treats work wonders for getting an animal to look forward to your presence.
From a horse person(me) you both are doing a great job of dealing with it all. Don’t listen to the nay sayers as we all were in your shoes when we began. If you seek information get it from your VET or friends you know are prime equine specialists. Turn off comments as they can destroy ambitions. What works for some doesn’t always work for others. So very proud of your farm for taking on this amazing challenge. That’s how you learn. ❤🏇🏻Note: you have horse manure which we consider Black Gold for many environmental uses. Enjoy!!

They like sugar and carrots
It just takes time and you will get them comfortable with you 🥰.
Make sure you have right size for the horse
Getting the horses to be calm and comfortable with your family is going to be a journey that I am looking forward to. All the best
