As others have mentioned, Dimash sang a classical piece "Ulisse" with Aida Garifulina (Lyric Soprano), a trio with Aida Garifulina and Lara Fabian "Ti Amo Cosi", "Passione" at this same event (Igor Krutoy's 65th Anniversary Concert 2019), a very recent "Grateful to Fate" neo-classical piece, a neo-classical with a bit of pop mixed in "El Amor En Ti", "You Raise Me Up" a recent performance with a children's choir is very neo-classical with his low baritone, and many others. Check out these videos on his UA-cam channel.
As you said, what current opera stars has anyone heard of? If Dimash had accepted the position he was offered with the Astana Opera House he would probably have never become the global star he is now. When they first met after Dimash arrived in Hungary it was actually Placido who was practically fanboying over Dimash, he was so excited because his grandson had introduced him to Dimash's music. Dimash was his usual calm, gracious self explaining that it was through watching Placido on VHS as a 5 year old boy that brought him to music. According to the producer of this TV show Dimash is set to return as a judge again this December and apparently Jose Carreras will also be part of the judging panel so we could yet see a Dimash/Jose duet or if the fates align a revisitation of the Three Tenors with Dimash taking Pavarotti's role. Hopefully he won't have the terrible cough he couldn't shake for weeks this time around.
Many bel canto teachers have verified that Dimash brings a cross interpretation between rigid classical singing (which must follow norms and exactly as the author of the piece wrote, from the notes and durations, the portamentos, the expressiveness... Everything) and much more popular flexibility. For purists, let's remember that Dimash had the dream of singing with Plácido Domingos since he was a child and it was the Maestro himself, Don Domingos, who suggested the duet (he knew that even with classical training, Dimash would sing as a cross between classical and pop )! Dimash only had one day to remember the work and make the recording, as this moment is part of the competition (like a talent show) for children with musical talent: The “Virtuosos”! Dimash, as well as Placido Domingos, were part of the Jury, accompanied by Erika Miklósa (opera singer), Adrás Keller (violinist, conductor and musical director of the Budapest Concert), Hauser (cellist), Plácido Domingos Jr. (singer and composer), Pablo Sanz Villegas (classical guitarist), Gabriela Rachid (cultural director) and Harvey Goldsmith (music promoter)! The show was in Budapest (Hungary) from January 16th to 26th this year, 2024!
Notre Dame de Paris with Sundet. Check out their duet. Dimash was younger and his voice was not as deep as now. But it is still a delicious treat. Its the duel scene. Thank you for your reaction to this wonderful duet between Dimash and Placido. It was the realization of a lifelong dream for him. He only had a day to prepare.
Dimash was thrilled to sing with Placido. He grew up listening to him. Placido was introduced to Dimash by his grandson via youtube and was equally thrilled to sing with Dimash. The Maestro Domingo turned 82 that same week. This was at Virtuosos an event founded by Domingo to give up and coming youth the ability to perform in front of judges. This was the first time Dimash judged this event but has returned again. I only keep up with 3 vocalists who are classically trained but all three of them are in another genera of music. Dimash, Avi Kaplan (formerly of Pentatonix) and Rob Lundquist with Home Free.
Esse programa Virtuosos é incrível! Plácido Domingo e Dimash dois gênios virtuosos cantando juntos foi magistral! Orquestra maravilhosa! 👏🏽👏👏🏿👏🏼👏🏾👏🏻🎶♥️♥️🇧🇷🇧🇷🕊🕊
I think I speak for most Dears when I say we retty much much loe everything he does. You might want to check out some of his latest works beautiful music. He did a cover with Chante Moore I Lose Control , You Raise Me Up There are many!!
Wonderful and amazing❤. He and Dimash were judges in a talent-show for young classical talents in Budapest, Hungary called Virtuosos. And in this show one of his biggest dreams came true with this duet. The next Virtuosos show with Dimash is coming soon😊. Greetings and love from Germany👋❤️
👉 The world stands still for this moment and everyone holds their breath. A singing teacher calls them the two musical titans...yes, yes, yes! This duet was Dimash's dream and it is coming true. What an honor for our beloved Dimash and a great joy for Maestro Domingo…. And I was bathed in tears of joy. I'm sooo happy. Dimash was asked to participate as a judge in the competition for young classical musicians... and then... he gave us dear ones this wonderful jewel. Maestro Domingo invited Dimash to sing the duet with him the day before. Dimash only had a short night to learn this song in French... and besides, Dimash had a cold with a cough. (You notice it more clearly in the second song at the end of the concert.) Dimash would never act recklessly towards his duet partners. With good manners and respect, he would never drown out Maestro Domingo (then still 82) with his voice. He even adapts to Maestro Domingo's vocal color. Dimash opens a new world to many Dears... the world of classical music. You should definitely watch the video (look at the end of the comment)... so many young, talented musicians and the sensitive assessment of the jurors... Great!!! ... and the legendary duet of Maestro Domingo and Dimash Qudaibergen! The duet is about two fisherman friends. They see a beautiful new priestess in the village and they both fall in love with her.The two friends vow not to let any woman come between them. * Plácido Domingo (*1941 Madrid/Spain) is already a legend today. He is a world-renowned, versatile artist and is considered one of the best and most influential singers in opera history, with more than 150 roles and over 4,000 performances celebrated by audiences on stages around the world. 💥His Mother said in an interview years ago, Placido Domingo was Dimash's childhood hero. His father brought an 8 track of him home when he was little and they finally had to forcibly stop him from listening ! Said he pulled all his tapes around in a little red wagon and slept with them in a shoebox.
💥 As an undergrad several world class opera houses offered him positions in their companys. He declined saying he was pursuing his PhD in Musicology (Composition, writing his dissertation now) and wanted to explore other genres. In addition to concerts filling global arenas, he's CEO and sole head of a world leading production company, he and it recently filmed for a German TV special featuring 5 young adults from around the world who are permanently changing their industries.
❗ Meeting Domingo, the first thing he said was "I singer because of you. My Father bring home tape of you when I a little boy, I say I want to be Placido Domingo when I grow up. I come here because of you" Not a dry eye, including mine, his sincerity so heartfelt.
Dimash was sick and coughing just like you in the days before this performance, but could not turn down the invitation from maestro just the day before, as he was one of Dimash's childhood idols. Dimash, perhaps knowing he would be able to sing anything, and break new musical ground, politely declined the invitation to join the Astana Opera while still a student.
Dimash is a classically trained opera singer and was offered a place with the Astana Opera in Kazakhstan but respecfully turned it down to persue his own more contemporary musical career. Opera is very rigid and Dimash has to be free to sing whatever his heart desires, so that the reason he rejected the opera world. He loved performing with Placido but he prefers his own music to sing. He is much moreat home touring with his solo concerts regularly filling stadiums around the globe ❤
ditto @bejewel4669 comment - these are beautiful with Aida Garifullina and Lara Fabian in Igor Krutoy's "Once in a Lifetime 65" show. The full show is on Igor's channel with an index but several selections are on Dimash's channel and include English subtitles. Olympico (solo) - Ulisse (duet) - Know (solo) - Passione (solo) - Ti Amo Cosi (trio) all with skaters envisioning stories on ice - All amazing.
Hello Jenn! Dimash has received very disciplined classical training. His parents are also singers and he lived music since he was a very small child. In the first songs we heard, we could appreciate his enormous ability to sing any style, and his incredible vocal range allows him to shine in opera too... If you listen to "Olímpico", "Diva Dance" or so many other interpretations, this is very clear. It is really very difficult to find someone with so many talents together. Best regards from a very rainy Buenos Aires...
Jose carreras. Check out his two new duets from China I Came To Honour Mortal Life and Red Moon Rules. Incredible. Also Lose Control, another duet with Chante Moore, R&B. If you want another opera song from Dimash, check out Ti Amo Cosi (with great Russian soprano and Lara Fabian) and Ulysses (and same Russian soprano) Olympico, Ave Maria.
Bejewell below lists some other Classical or mostly Classical songs Dimash has performed. I'd add "Olimpico" to that list, preferably the outdoor performance. ua-cam.com/video/dkPS6t84qg4/v-deo.html
I think opera would be too boring for Dimash. Dimash studies different music, different styles and improvises a lot, changes. He gains knowledge from all over the world and uses it creatively. In opera, you have to sing exactly as it was composed. But if Dimash actually returned to opera, what arias could he sing? Actually, he could sing all the arias. But would the world be ready for a man to sing, for example, Carmen? I'm joking. Personally, I think Dimash would waste his talent in opera, because he is a very creative artist. But I don't deny that he could sing something operatic. However, it would require retraining of the voice, because currently he does not perform this aria like a typical opera singer. The recording was made last year when both gentlemen were jurors in the Virtuosos competition for young vocal and instrumental talents (up to eighteen years of age) involved in classical music. The entire program was broadcast at the beginning of this year
Ti Amo Cosi, Ullisse, Olympico, Passione are some of them. The Love of Tired Swans, Sinful Passion, and Ikanaide, these have some operatic elements.
I’m a dear and I LOVE all of Dimash’s genres, including the opera. Check out “Olympico” and “El Amor En Ti”.
