savvo I did some calculations. Tom Hanks was around 180 pounds when he filmed this movie. He ran every single day and for a 180 pound person every mile they burn 17 calories. I’m assuming he runs for around 10 hours a day and he’s relatively in shape so I assume he runs a mile in around 10 minutes according to stats. There are 60 10 minutes in 10 hours so he runs 60 miles every day which means he burns around 1020 calories every day. Times that by 3 years he burned around 1.2 million calories.
I still don't get how this movie is so perfect, it has a bit of everything, a beautiful story of being a hero, finding love, finding skills and succeeding in life with that skill, it even has comedic parts throughout the movie that were just right and had so much more. Definitely one of the best movies of all time.
It's perfect because is a fable. With some bite of reality but never really close to it, is a modern fable on a world that could exist only on the movie screen.
It shows how stupid the media is, describe him as a gardener from Alabama. Meanwhile he's a war hero, an all American football player, millionaire, champion table tennis player. Met the president many times. But to media just a gardener.

Lots of people drink their sorrows away from a broken heart. Forrest just ran. People deal with pain in different ways but maybe one day everyone will turn their pain into greatness.
Ok here are the songs from "running scene": 1. Jackson Browne - Running on empty 2. The Doobie Brothers - It Keeps You Running 3. Gladys Knight - I've Got To Use My Imagination 4. Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way 5. Willie Nelson - On the Road Again 6. Bob Seger - Against The Wind
Robert Anderson no we’re not jealous. There’s always ONE kid who brags about running 25 laps when the average person runs ten. No one cares that you ran that many laps and good luck beating that score on fitness exams next year.
This scene inspired me to cycle across America, I write this from Steamboat Springs, CO around 1,000 miles from my goal. This is the best thing I've ever done, thanks Forrest.

It's weird; back then I never really understood this scene until I went through my first breakup. I wasn't in Cross Country or Track anymore but I didn't know how to deal with my grief... so I ran. I ran everyday, 6K's and more in over a hundred degree weather, no matter how tired I was. The truth is I never ran to get fit or to become a competitive runner, I ran because I had my heart broken. I found this scene so relatable especially after he said he thought about Jenny on his runs, where as in my case I thought about my former girlfriend. Ironically this popped up in my recommended years after I forgot about this scene! Strange... Edit: We got back together; turns out I thought she hated me cause she was so introverted. I started to leave because I thought I made her uncomfortable but turns out she really did like me and even got super depressed when I left. We discovered that we both didn't actually hate each other and worked on communication. Now we're in a steady and loving relationship. We're gonna go on a run together soon ironically. Life is bliss right now and reading this comment from months ago blows my mind :)
I had a similar story. after failing on my studies for the first time, I was so frustrated I started drinking till my head hurts. One day, I woke up so ashamed of myself and started running, it was the best thing that could ever happen to me! Hope you're doing fine and you're still running around 👏
So relatable. Every time i went through a breakup: I started running every morning. I started exercising as much as I could. It was the only way to lessen the pain.
Explore your world. Shit happens. Have a nice day. Put the past behind you and move forward. Don't follow mindlessly. Yield to traffic in the right-of-way.
@@jennymcmillen5626 Exactly. Nobody forced anyone to join Forrest on his run. They brought themselves out there, they can figure out what to do or their own
I think this whole running segment is a symbolism of Jesus Christ and his followers. Even the Gump beard and hair style at the end resembles Jesus Christ.
I think one of my favorite parts about this is that no one decided to run in front of Forrest, no one ran in a different direction unless they decided to stop, no one decided to keep the running going after Forrest got tired. Forrest sure doesn't think of himself as a leader, and other people definitely wouldn't think so at first glance too, but when he's set in motion he can lead a country wide phenomenon without saying a single reason as to why. There's something admirable about that.
When I first saw this film it was during 2011, it was broadcasting on the TV and at first thought it was a mediocre movie, but as I was going to change the channel a small voice inside of me said give it a chance. So glad I relented and decided to watch the movie.
@@christopherbostic4429 ...Well, he wasn't ever the brightest bulb but, he was massively depressed after losing his virginity and waking to find Jenny vanished on him again. All he had was running and no way out, lol.
how i took it is that even you're in deep shit,if you could keep smiling, then you're....i don't know how to say anything after awesome. hard-wired maybe?
The implication here is that Forrest inspired some dude to invent the catchphrase ”Shit Happens” and the Smiley face - two pop culture phenomenon that became very popular in real life in the early 80s. No deeper meaning. Just for the laughs.
There is a lot of symbolism in this. At first, he starts running and people dismiss it. Then he catches people''s attention, some people start to join him. At the end, people are following just to take part of the crowd.
Also, it shows his absolute focus, people around him didn't bother him, dog shit didn't bother him, his environment didn't bother him. That's what it takes to be successful.
Kendall Davis No one is born with this trait, it's more of a cultivated discipline. It's rare because people generally don't like discipline and hard work. We are too distracted by TV, internet, fear of people''s criticism, the want of social acceptance etc. In the film, forrest gump didn't understand social dynamics, so it made it easier for him to cultivate leadership qualities.
akshay singh i like hard work and displine i am 16 and i got 351 thousand dollars in bank just by doing jobs online and it started with a argument that i can make money without relaying on diploma
I understand his run. I remember starting to run in order to forget. Been running for eight years now. It doesn't really help you completely forget and sometimes it feels like self-flagellation. That feeling no one cares for you, so why care for yourself? You can really find the limits of human ability when you no longer care what might happen to yourself.
It's a life lesson. "If you get this far, you can go farther" it is just dumbed down using the character Forest Gump so that everyone can understand it.
It's not dumbed down, its made simple. Who would listen to "If you are at a roadblock of your journey in life where you can't find a direction to go in, just go further for what you seek until you meet your place of fufillment." No one wants to be lectured by a guy who knows his smarts, but a guy who uses his gut and wit.
How many times have you just wanted to run away and get away from it all? I know I have! I love this movie ~ the soundtrack ~ his friendship with Bubba and Lt. Dan ~ his undying love for Jenny ~ and especially how Forrest was always in the right place at the right time!!
Bryan Bell Both this movie and Shawshank Redemption are 2 of my top 5 movies of all time! They both were released in 1994, with Forrest Gump winning Best Picture, although I think Shawshank Redemption was more deserving, in my opinion, or it would have been nice if it would have been a 'tie'.
82sweetheart hello lady, I too watched this movie and loved it. I am going through a very difficult phase of my life and I'm just 24 yo. Lost job ,gf and almost everything. Someone said the only way to escape all this is to prepare for a competitive exam and get admission into one of top business schools around the globe. Me and my friend started preparing for it a few months ago, everything was going smooth until my friend passed away in a road accident. Now I have no desire to continue with my studies, thought watching this movie would motivate me a little and tbh it did to some extent but idk... I'm so down I don't think I'll ever be able to get back up on my feet again.
saurav raj Singh ~ you've got your whole life ahead of you, and though you've been going through some difficult times recently, you need to know that everyone goes through times of tragedy and adversity. I've had my fair share, I was in an abusive relationship for a number of years, my parents, brother, sister and nephew passed away, and most recently lost a job and have been having health issues, but the one thing I have refused to do, is give up on life. There have been times, I've almost given up, but Hope and faith keep me going! Don't stop believing in yourself and keep the faith and hope that the best of your life is yet to come! Remember that there is always someone somewhere that is not as fortunate as you. Some people are hungry, homeless or battling illness. One thing about the movie, Forrest never gave up, and that persistence in life enabled him to experience many opportunities. Another favorite movie about hope and never giving up is The Shawshank Redemption ~ life is a journey and sometimes you have to take the road less traveled and it may not always be smooth, you will make it, if you have hope!!
82sweetheart Thanks a bunch lady for your kind and uplifting words. I understand how it feels when a relationship ends especially when you gave your one hundred percent to keep it going. Your story tore me up and it makes me think and reevaluate my decisions. I'm going to sit in the exams and if I succeed ,you'll be the first person to hear from me!! :) sendin' good vibes your way!!

savvo I did some calculations.
That’s not including the extra months and days and hours he provides us with. So yes that’s a lot of calories
redlizerad you can balance that out by how many calories he’d need to take in to keep going at that pace for that long, it’d be a lot
@@puremadness yeah but his leg muscles must be jacked tho. running for 10 hours every day is insane
Imagine how R I P P E D his legs are
I still don't get how this movie is so perfect, it has a bit of everything, a beautiful story of being a hero, finding love, finding skills and succeeding in life with that skill, it even has comedic parts throughout the movie that were just right and had so much more. Definitely one of the best movies of all time.
It's pretty good. I wouldn't say perfect, but def worth watching.
It's perfect because is a fable. With some bite of reality but never really close to it, is a modern fable on a world that could exist only on the movie screen.
Tom hanks best movie.
I liked saving private ryan
It's the actor and it's the human spirit at it's best
“I decided to go on a little run”
*comes back with a beard*
Forrest Gump is the only human on earth that can be as complex as simple.
It shows how stupid the media is, describe him as a gardener from Alabama. Meanwhile he's a war hero, an all American football player, millionaire, champion table tennis player. Met the president many times. But to media just a gardener.
The media are sometimes assholes, Gump was a remarkable individual at what he achieved and the people he met.
To be fair it is his current occupation
It’s a movie guys
Man, if you gained that from a fictional story, I wonder what you can garner from one of those Modern Art master pieces.
Probably to make him more relatable to the average American. I’d feel like I could do it if he was just a man I could relate to.
Funny how people only started following him, after he started to look like Jesus.
Jordan Days DEAD
I think that was the idea at the end. His disciples...
kdpowers I think you are right. Exactly. The whole thing gave me that idea and the end even more so
Jesus and his disciples. Showed them “the way”
And then left them to their own devices without a leader for a while. You can go your own wayyyy
What he achieved you can to, you can even do better.
This mans cardiovascular endurance is on point
I did this exact thing (well with my car) I had a few weeks off..decided to take a drive to Lansing from Detroit just to spend the day, and said..wtf, why not Kalamazoo? Then, how about Chicago? Next thing, I wanted to see the Pacific Ocean which I never did in my life. I just bought things as I needed them, stayed at whatever Hotel in whatever city I got the furthest. It was one of the best experiences of my life.
Cool
I wanna do that someday too with a motorcycle.

Lots of people drink their sorrows away from a broken heart. Forrest just ran. People deal with pain in different ways but maybe one day everyone will turn their pain into greatness.
Ok here are the songs from "running scene":
1. Jackson Browne - Running on empty
2. The Doobie Brothers - It Keeps You Running
3. Gladys Knight - I've Got To Use My Imagination
4. Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way
5. Willie Nelson - On the Road Again
6. Bob Seger - Against The Wind

Ziggy Stardust That literally used to be me for no reason 😭
Wrong. An athletic kid would boast about how he accomplished something for hours.
Ytrewq Wertyq Dont be jealous that kids put in hard work to be successful and good at sports. Instead of complaining do something about it.
Robert Anderson no we’re not jealous. There’s always ONE kid who brags about running 25 laps when the average person runs ten. No one cares that you ran that many laps and good luck beating that score on fitness exams next year.

This is the best thing I've ever done, thanks Forrest.
Great work, keep going! This scene also inspired me to run. Since then I've become really Into fitness lol. I run up to 8 miles a day and do lots of other things too!

@@alvarosoares3530 hey man, eventually life does get better. Running really does help, don't give up! Good luck out there :)
So relatable. Every time i went through a breakup: I started running every morning. I started exercising as much as I could. It was the only way to lessen the pain.
And just like that, your runnin’ days was over.
You gave me hope 😭
The meaning of life - right here in a scene from a movie. Beautiful...

And then when he came home he turned himself into Gandalf just to give Baggins ring and fight Sauron.
@Xxsilentagent47Xx you are me, and i am you. Are you sure the only you is you?
@Tinkersaurus Rex wondering the exact same bro
Legend says it he never went home, he’s still running.

This movie helped me recover from my 7 year old depression.. All thanks to the team who worked to make this movie..
When I first saw this film it was during 2011, it was broadcasting on the TV and at first thought it was a mediocre movie, but as I was going to change the channel a small voice inside of me said give it a chance. So glad I relented and decided to watch the movie.

how i took it is that even you're in deep shit,if you could keep smiling, then you're....i don't know how to say anything after awesome. hard-wired maybe?
The implication here is that Forrest inspired some dude to invent the catchphrase ”Shit Happens” and the Smiley face - two pop culture phenomenon that became very popular in real life in the early 80s.

There is a lot of symbolism in this. At first, he starts running and people dismiss it. Then he catches people''s attention, some people start to join him. At the end, people are following just to take part of the crowd.
thats what it takes to be a leader many people dont have this character trait you have to be born with it.
TheJudoJoker Simbolicly, yes. But in a practical sense it streches credibility. It somehow more of a funny social critisism to me than an inspiration.

i think forrest forgot to lock his house up when he started to run
I understand his run. I remember starting to run in order to forget. Been running for eight years now. It doesn't really help you completely forget and sometimes it feels like self-flagellation. That feeling no one cares for you, so why care for yourself? You can really find the limits of human ability when you no longer care what might happen to yourself.

*"I support Nike: Just Do It"*
It's a life lesson. "If you get this far, you can go farther" it is just dumbed down using the character Forest Gump so that everyone can understand it.
It's not dumbed down, its made simple.
Who would listen to "If you are at a roadblock of your journey in life where you can't find a direction to go in, just go further for what you seek until you meet your place of fufillment."
No one wants to be lectured by a guy who knows his smarts, but a guy who uses his gut and wit.

How many times have you just wanted to run away and get away from it all? I know I have! I love this movie ~ the soundtrack ~ his friendship with Bubba and Lt. Dan ~ his undying love for Jenny ~ and especially how Forrest was always in the right place at the right time!!
Bryan Bell
Both this movie and Shawshank Redemption are 2 of my top 5 movies of all time! They both were released in 1994, with Forrest Gump winning Best Picture, although I think Shawshank Redemption was more deserving, in my opinion, or it would have been nice if it would have been a 'tie'.
Bryan Bell
That's right!

The transition from the old lady and Forrest on the bench to him running to Jackson Browne with the scenery matching lyrics might be the greatest bit of cinematography in movie history. Flawless.
