    I like that old lady on the bench, unlike all the other people she stayed and listened to his story, she literally missed her bus just to listen to more of his story, she was very nice, she even believed him when he said he owned the bubba gump shrimp company, when that other guy went away laughing

      @Firestrike Well, when you're in the moment, staying and listening isn't the first decision you make in your mind. I admire the old woman who chose to stay and listen. It's just... a nice gesture. It establishes her character well too, in my opinion.

    this scene stuck to me as an adult. I think it's the perfect example of leading by action. If you do your own thing, follow your dreams without comparing or listening to external people, you'll inspire and attract people.

    This scene is very touching. He says at the end that his momma told him that we gotta put our past behind us, before we can move forward. And that’s exactly what the running means. When he lost his mother and Jenny, there was too much pain inside him. He ran 3 years to put that pain behind, somehow. Guess who does this on a regular basis? David Goggins. I also did a lot of running when I was struggling through anxiety, depression and the death of my father.

    • @sarsona_3611
      @sarsona_3611 5 років тому +50

      This scene has made me want to run around my entire city, i might as well do it tomorrow since its summer. I just feel like running. Hope you're doing well and able to ease the pain, let alone get rid of it completley. its a terrible thing to lose somebody you love and to feel the wrath of those terrible emotiones one should never feel. I never actually had somebody in my life "died", but there was one special person in my life who moved away to a farther part in the country or to a whole other country. Shes like my Jenny to me.

      I think they were hoping that he'd reached his moment of enlightenment and was going to share it. Unfortunately for them his enlightenment was about making peace with some of the things that happened in his life, too personal to share.
      I like to think that some of his running cult took his example, run until they had their answers, and then stopped. For some maybe it was a short journey , maybe some others ran for years. And maybe in that universe, there's still someone running. Not for no reason, as Forrest Gump dishonestly suggested because he didn't want to talk about it, but because they too were troubled by something that they couldn't sit still for until they worked it out.
      Honestly I can think of a worse way to meditate and gain emotional peace than a strict regimen of daily exercise in the company of like minded individuals. There is something to the idea of "just running."

Forrest is in no way stupid, he is just innocent and that is what helps him see the world as kids see it, as we used to but don't anymore... and that is a big problem. After 76 years Chaplin is still right, we "think too much and feel too little".

      some people live off of their credentials. they expect admiration on them alone. others live off of just not caring who notices what we do and being ourselves. I haven't gotten much credit for a lot I've done in my life. and for some reason it doesn't even bother me. I got a chance to live and help others and bring two beautiful children in the world who laugh every single day. I dont care if anyone notices. ive also created beautiful artwork and my creativity has inspired several. im kind of just thankful for the opportunity to help. because if I wasn't there I know things would be different for some. I dont need gold medals. kindness and respect would do just fine

      savvo I did some calculations. Tom Hanks was around 180 pounds when he filmed this movie. He ran every single day and for a 180 pound person every mile they burn 17 calories. I’m assuming he runs for around 10 hours a day and he’s relatively in shape so I assume he runs a mile in around 10 minutes according to stats. There are 60 10 minutes in 10 hours so he runs 60 miles every day which means he burns around 1020 calories every day. Times that by 3 years he burned around 1.2 million calories.

    I still don't get how this movie is so perfect, it has a bit of everything, a beautiful story of being a hero, finding love, finding skills and succeeding in life with that skill, it even has comedic parts throughout the movie that were just right and had so much more. Definitely one of the best movies of all time.

    It's weird; back then I never really understood this scene until I went through my first breakup. I wasn't in Cross Country or Track anymore but I didn't know how to deal with my grief... so I ran. I ran everyday, 6K's and more in over a hundred degree weather, no matter how tired I was. The truth is I never ran to get fit or to become a competitive runner, I ran because I had my heart broken. I found this scene so relatable especially after he said he thought about Jenny on his runs, where as in my case I thought about my former girlfriend. Ironically this popped up in my recommended years after I forgot about this scene! Strange...
    Edit: We got back together; turns out I thought she hated me cause she was so introverted. I started to leave because I thought I made her uncomfortable but turns out she really did like me and even got super depressed when I left. We discovered that we both didn't actually hate each other and worked on communication. Now we're in a steady and loving relationship. We're gonna go on a run together soon ironically. Life is bliss right now and reading this comment from months ago blows my mind :)

    I think one of my favorite parts about this is that no one decided to run in front of Forrest, no one ran in a different direction unless they decided to stop, no one decided to keep the running going after Forrest got tired.
    Forrest sure doesn't think of himself as a leader, and other people definitely wouldn't think so at first glance too, but when he's set in motion he can lead a country wide phenomenon without saying a single reason as to why.
    There's something admirable about that.

      82sweetheart hello lady, I too watched this movie and loved it. I am going through a very difficult phase of my life and I'm just 24 yo. Lost job ,gf and almost everything. Someone said the only way to escape all this is to prepare for a competitive exam and get admission into one of top business schools around the globe. Me and my friend started preparing for it a few months ago, everything was going smooth until my friend passed away in a road accident. Now I have no desire to continue with my studies, thought watching this movie would motivate me a little and tbh it did to some extent but idk... I'm so down I don't think I'll ever be able to get back up on my feet again.

    • @82sweetheart
      @82sweetheart 9 років тому +3

      saurav raj Singh ~ you've got your whole life ahead of you, and though you've been going through some difficult times recently, you need to know that everyone goes through times of tragedy and adversity. I've had my fair share, I was in an abusive relationship for a number of years, my parents, brother, sister and nephew passed away, and most recently lost a job and have been having health issues, but the one thing I have refused to do, is give up on life. There have been times, I've almost given up, but Hope and faith keep me going! Don't stop believing in yourself and keep the faith and hope that the best of your life is yet to come! Remember that there is always someone somewhere that is not as fortunate as you. Some people are hungry, homeless or battling illness. One thing about the movie, Forrest never gave up, and that persistence in life enabled him to experience many opportunities. Another favorite movie about hope and never giving up is The Shawshank Redemption ~ life is a journey and sometimes you have to take the road less traveled and it may not always be smooth, you will make it, if you have hope!!
