It's very good. It's so good the engines can't even help it. I find that 84-86% is the best thrust for sustainability, depending on the map (cold vs hot)
LMFAO .... It hilarious how no one seems to comprehend how much parasitic drag that airframe generates IRL. Its neither fast nor has a particularly high thrust to weight ratio. Ignorance is bliss in WT though i guess.

The harrier air spawn makes real life sense
the AV8A (even with this gen Pegasus) isn’t viable for a dirty vtol takeoff on full fuel. To add payload you’d need to remove fuel to keep the weight down , reducing the effective range of the harrier and thus making it not worth it.
Care to post some classified design specs to prove that?!

@@MonkeySquasher DCS harrier should be close enough to the real thing and it has nowhere near the same thrust and acceleration as the wt model. That inaccuracy was definitely intentional, otherwise Timmy would always crash when taking off or landing vertically.
You should know, that Canberra B Mk 6 (the one with cannons) has cannons mounted just behind the bomb bay, what means that if you drop bombs and shoot at the same time, you basically become a flying bomb. Little timing with precision and you can call yourself a proximity bomb in the air!

@@collander7766 BI actually has over 1 T/W on lower fuel so it can also, in regards to acceleration theyre very close, harrier seems to be better at low speed, and BI is better at, LOW low speed like stalling speeds, if i had to say
though that doesnt matter cause i think the best accelerating plane in the game overall i'd say is actually the F-104S, although it has a little less acceleration at low speeds, its acceleration actually gets noticeably better at medium and *even better* at high speeds (around mach 0.8-1.0 is where it accelerates the best) the other 2 planes acceleration only drops off with speed
104S is only 1-2m/s^2 slower accelerating at low speed, but like 7m/s^2 better at high speed

The short take-off/vertical landing is a valuable mission profile for this airframe, gives the capability of carrying slightly heavier than usual ordnance loads than the vertical take-off is capable of.
I really would like to see a video on the A4 Early in the US tech tree with all its upgrades from groundbreaking because its really fun to lock onto a tank with GBUs and watch them try to avoid the bomb thats homing in on them

The issue is the harrier can carry itself with a higher thrust to weight but accelerating horizontally from 0 even if your engine is that powerful you will have a hard time accelerating that quickly. Just did Some math I could be wrong but the aircraft should have an acceleration of around 1.13 m/s^2… in testing it goes around 40 m/s^2

I work at Northrop Grumman and even though the F-22 isn't in the game (yet) I would love one of those designs to wear to work. I test the RADAR electronics for the F-22s, F-35s, F-16s and also test the DAS electronics for the JSF Pilot Helmet. Fun stuff, love the content!

Phly I LOVE the shirts! You should continue the loadout collection. You could even do tanks and helicopters. You have 3 things going for them. 1, their good quality at an affordable price. 2, their simplistic an easy to understand (touch on this in a sec). 3, theirs a lot of potential with this series, think of all the planes you could do, even tanks and helicopters. people like that stuff that gets to the point and simple, Is not "HEY LOOK AT ME" and the best part is, someone could pick 4 or 5 of their favorites and all have them match. maby even 3 packs called "WWII german" or "Modern usa" and have 3 shirts of that era. good luck man, love your vids. hope this gave you some inspiration.

it's a bug in WT rn, when you drop bombs they allways spawn quite some distance above their actual visual location on the plane, I drop bombs from strategic bombers like the british top bomber and they spawn above me

Play the AV-8C for ground striking. You get an RWR that helps a TON
You should try the AB-8C with the ATAP Zunis in ground RB, they are AMAZING
You need a shirt with the dalek tank from sprockets that you made with the saying “This is kind of normal.” as merch.
Some interesting CAS choices we saw here (Mig-19; J35A...)!
1st of all 90% thrust max; but even with 60% it can reach its top speed without problem (outstanding weight/thrust ratio), and it not just can land on helipads; the Harriers can also cap bases, and hover over the battlefield like a chopper shooting rockets, and its 30mms! I'd still say the VTOL planes are more of a gimmicks (nice AGMs on the Yak tough).
I only have the GR.3 (very nice jet overall), and brought the GR.1 (its trash) recently on the sale, but I'd sure try those "Zuni"s in tank RB (wish it'd launch 1 by 1), tough the SNEBs are workable too!
Thing with the Yak missiles is that they are manually guided ...

Well yeah it does, its the only plane with a thrust to weight ratio greater then 1:1 because it is the only plane that can take off and land vertically using nothing except the engine (the soviet VTOL cheats a little bit using engine torque to turn a fan to help while the harrier uses only the thrust from the engine.)

3:15 - 3:37, from 0 to 600 kph in 22 seconds. Actually, the BI with the low fuel load gets to 633 kph in 22 seconds...
With bombs and a full bag of fuel, the Harrier probably doesn't have the power to take off. I imagine it's similar to how the F-35c is being used at sea, shot off the ramp with the catapult, does its business (dropping bombs, burning fuel, getting lighter), then lands back on the ship vertically.

If your looking for a fun thing to try phly I have recently been using the bv138 at low teir like it is an ac130. You basically just rotate around the map and use the 20 mils to gun down under armoured vehicles. Is it effective? No. Is it fun as fuck? Absolutely. It's worth a go if you feel like it. Keep up the awesome content man.
Best CAS plane? I would recommend you try out the Su-7BMK (the premium one) then, it has 6 'tiny ivan' S-24 with CCIP which you can fire single or double and it's absurdly fast.
I have both. The AV-8A is a much better jet. Sure you don't have as many bomb drops but you get two of the best missiles in the game which help against air and honestly with bombs loaded I think the AV-8A responds much better then the BMK. Also you end up dropping multiple bombs on a single target anyway because those 500 pounders aren't the greatest.
I find the wing mounted S-24s to be really awkward to aim and miss quite a bit. Unlike the fuselage mounted ones
you have to remember, the reason the harrier is subsonic is because of aerodynamics - not thrust.

With the Tu-2 it's very possible to drop a couple bombs at high altitude and then if shifting immediately to a dive bomb delivery on an adjacent target *run into your own bombs moments later while diving blowing your wings off*
This applies to other planes as well, even when diving and dropping

8:45, with a full load wouldn't you have a short take off instead of a vertical one? I'm guessing with low enough fuel you could take off vertically
With minimum fuel the harriers can still take off with a mixed armament of missiles and bombs, but not full bombs only. The air to air missiles take up 2 pylons that would otherwise have bombs, so it’s a bit lighter.

Oh I had a funny moment on a custom battle. Drove up behind an Abrams in a BT-5 and ran a 45mm through the rear turret ammo compartment into the turret crew compartment. Obliterated their tank.
