Hey Phly, The AIM-7 Sparrow is a semi-active missile that requires the launch aircraft to paint the target and maintain the lock in order to have a chance at a kill. If you lock, fire then turn away the lock will be lost and the missile will go (stupid). The later AIM-7M and later models had a active radar that took over on final approach going (Pit-Bull) for final lock.
@@odin8ful the AIM-7 will go were designated because the launch aircraft is acting as the eyes of the missile, with the exception of that last closing distance (Pitbull) at which the missiles internal radar takes over and guides it to the target. But one must remember that the missile has a very finite on-board fuel supply. once expended the missile is coasting to the target. A good pilot will "Notch" their aircraft (fly perpendicular/parallel) in relationship to the missile in an attempt to bleed off the missiles speed and cause it to miss.
@ditzydoo4378 idk how after years you are still this wrong. Aim 7 is semi active all the way through its flight and does not go pitbull because it does not contain any active radar. The missile see whats illuminated by the launching aircraft but the missile might sometimes still follow the same target even if you switch target or go after a target that wasn't locked and that's because the missile just looks for the fastest target and the launching aircrafts radars cone is big enough that more than one aircraft easily could be within it. Going active is what the aim120 does or the aim54 these missiles have active radars and will go pitbull, they don't guide in semi active ever, but with data link until close enough for the missiles own radar.
I always fire the aim 7 at like 20km out then another one at 10km for good measure or if they turn. It will track and get kills even from 20km+ in a head on. The 46km radar mode works better than the 19km radar mode for the sparrows since you can start looking for targets earlier. Also when you're low to the ground the short range radar mode (9km I think) works the best. It's the one with the blinking green box. You can use it pretty much all the way at ground level as long as you launch them tilted up in the air and the plane you're locking is same or above your altitude.
Phly, you've brought back the "Everybody" intro right?. Well, there has been a certain song kinda stuck _In My Head_ phor a while that you could also bring back! Attempt #62
Use the WEZ on the radar. You will notice it buy it consistently changing because the Aim-7 is a situational weapon with its engagement distance, it will only hit its 50km distance when you are at Mach 2 and high alt. Because the missile uses your momentum and thinner air to reach those longer ranges.
They need to fix that shit with the E sparrows. The D's engines keep burning the whole way, but the E's engine cuts out after a couple dozen meters, and has to *glide* the rest of the way! That makes the *NEWER,* supposed to be *better* missile so much comparatively *SLOWER* than the D! The energy range of sonic boom is concentrated in the 0.1-100 hertz frequency range that is considerably below that of subsonic aircraft, gunfire and most industrial noise. Duration of sonic boom is brief; less than a second, 100 milliseconds (0.1 second) for most fighter-sized aircraft and 500 milliseconds for the space shuttle or Concorde jetliner. The intensity and width of a sonic boom path depends on the physical characteristics of the aircraft and how it is operated. In general, the greater an aircraft's altitude, the lower the over-pressure on the ground. Greater altitude also increases the boom's lateral spread, exposing a wider area to the boom. Over-pressures in the sonic boom impact area, however, will not be uniform. Boom intensity is greatest directly under the flight path, progressively weakening with greater horizontal distance away from the aircraft flight track. Ground width of the boom exposure area is approximately 1 statute mile (1.6 km) for each 1,000 feet (300 m) of altitude (the width is about five times the altitude); that is, an aircraft flying supersonic at 30,000 feet (9,100 m) will create a lateral boom spread of about 30 miles (48 km). For steady supersonic flight, the boom is described as a carpet boom since it moves with the aircraft as it maintains supersonic speed and altitude. Some maneuvers, diving, acceleration or turning, can cause focusing of the boom. Other maneuvers, such as deceleration and climbing, can reduce the strength of the shock. In some instances weather conditions can distort sonic booms.[4] Depending on the aircraft's altitude, sonic booms reach the ground 2 to 60 seconds after flyover. However, not all booms are heard at ground level. The speed of sound at any altitude is a function of air temperature. A decrease or increase in temperature results in a corresponding decrease or increase in sound speed. Under standard atmospheric conditions, air temperature decreases with increased altitude. For example, when sea-level temperature is 59 degrees Fahrenheit (15 °C), the temperature at 30,000 feet (9,100 m) drops to minus 49 degrees Fahrenheit (−45 °C). This temperature gradient helps bend the sound waves upward. Therefore, for a boom to reach the ground, the aircraft speed relative to the ground must be greater than the speed of sound at the ground. For example, the speed of sound at 30,000 feet (9,100 m) is about 670 miles per hour (1,080 km/h), but an aircraft must travel at least 750 miles per hour (1,210 km/h) (Mach 1.12, where Mach 1 equals the speed of sound) for a boom to be heard on the ground.[4] The composition of the atmosphere is also a factor. Temperature variations, humidity, atmospheric pollution, and winds can all have an effect on how a sonic boom is perceived on the ground. Even the ground itself can influence the sound of a sonic boom. Hard surfaces such as concrete, pavement, and large buildings can cause reflections which may amplify the sound of a sonic boom. Similarly, grassy fields and profuse foliage can help attenuate the strength of the over-pressure of a sonic boom
Also: Day 7: Can Steve play the v.g.33 in air rb? It's a very good plane, easy to phly, and is good enough to get you to rank phive pretty quickly. Also, any plane related video is appreciated, and today I was heaving a blast watching your year old vids, from back when you where a top tire player. Important notes about the plane: 1: it can out do p38Gs at 17000 ft. 2: it can out climb 109s. 3: it can out energy retain the me262.
They have to keep missile friendly fire as a thing in this game. The Sparrow's reputation for being shit early on was heavily predicated on air battle RoE in Vietnam where you were supposed to visually confirm the target before you could engage, at which point the Sparrow's huge range and speed advantage was lost since you were now having to engage a maneuvering enemy, which it's not really well designed to do.
Just recently learned the line on the radar represents the maximum range the missile will fly straight and if looking at on a smaller scope there is a line way down lower wich shows how far the missile wile have engine burn

In some instances weather conditions can distort sonic booms.[4]
Depending on the aircraft's altitude, sonic booms reach the ground 2 to 60 seconds after flyover. For example, the speed of sound at 30,000 feet (9,100 m) is about 670 miles per hour (1,080 km/h), but an aircraft must travel at least 750 miles per hour (1,210 km/h) (Mach 1.12, where Mach 1 equals the speed of sound) for a boom to be heard on the ground.[4]
The composition of the atmosphere is also a factor.
My computer broke last week and now I am getting nostalgia from watching UA-cam videos of it
Let's gooooo!
Phly daly actually phlying!
Also:
Day 7:
Can Steve play the v.g.33 in air rb?
It's a very good plane, easy to phly, and is good enough to get you to rank phive pretty quickly.
Also, any plane related video is appreciated, and today I was heaving a blast watching your year old vids, from back when you where a top tire player.
Important notes about the plane:
1: it can out do p38Gs at 17000 ft.
2: it can out climb 109s.
3: it can out energy retain the me262.
We need more of PhlyDaily!!!
To my brother Hrvatski Branitelj - samo JAKO LEGENDO :) stay strong!
About time, only been looking forward to this one since sparrows dropped months ago.
You should use the BM-13 please, because it has been 3 years since you've last used it, and was pretty funny to watch you use it
Just recently learned the line on the radar represents the maximum range the missile will fly straight and if looking at on a smaller scope there is a line way down lower wich shows how far the missile wile have engine burn
Also excuse my English had a few too many stiff glasses of "WATER"
Ace Combat Music is so epic! I love it.
Phly entering Growling Sidewinder territory... Time to learn the F pole manœuvre and locked offsets. 😋
