If the system is gravity fed, why not just open the bottom drain without closing the supply valve? Wouldn't that drain water and debris, without introducing air into the system? If you crack the top threads, then you have to find a clean supply of diesel that has already been filtered, since some of the diesel you add to the top will bypass the filter. After cracking the top threads, you also need to bleed air. Am I missing something?

what about the o-rings we get with the new filter? Do we need to replace these everytime?
