I believe Conan Doyle and Crowley were involved but I don’t remember the detail. Nice talk Stephen.

Very interesting, as a side note Crowley was the last magician to be publicly hired by the British government!!

I used Google search to find some nice ones. Etsy, ebay, have some. There are also other options. Have a look at images for Greenman pendants click on the ones you like and that will take you to the shop. There is also a "all things greenman shop" in the UK. If you can't find it let me know and I will try to find the Web address.

Interesting man Aleister Crowley, and of course far too colourful a life and too muddled in sensationalism to be recounted easliy with certainty. He surely had his share of tragedy in his later life, but equally he had many successes as a chess player, mountaineer, and his extensive occult studies live beyond him, and here we are still talking about him so long after his death. One point to note, I think the "Do what thy wilt" informed the Gardnerian Wiccan rede, rather than the other way about; itself stemming from the writings of Rabelais on the Abbey de Theleme, and prior to this the Hedonists of ancient Greece, all built on the premise that the natural order order of things and left well alone, the system will right itself. My experience of reality would indicate something altogether more Hobbsean. Enjoyed this, thanks, will watch out for the rest of the series.

Thank you for your comments. In many ways Aleister could have been considered as a polymath. Despite what I said about him I am not anti Crowley. I just think as far as the occult was concerned he started well and contributed much, but became a victim of his own success and ended badly. I also think that there were some greater and more successful practitioners around who preferred to stay away from publicity.
