Now search up all the missing features taken out of this headset. People are going to spend a lot of money on accessories to turn it into a usable gaming headset. Or if you only plan on watching movies on it, it's still not worth $1,000. The Meta Quest Pro is honestly the better option for the same price. You have to be delusional to think otherwise. The Bigscreen Beyond headset is a step backwards in what us VR users want.

Someone just shared this video with me. I've seen brief snippets of this conversation on Twitter about the BFI and motion sickness but never been able to work out what the issue was.
This was an informative video, thanks.
Luckily for me, I guess I'm not as sensitive as some to the sickness. But even in an aesthetic level, the reprojection is a bit annoying for me. Looking forward to more 90hz games.

So, how long ago did you last use the headset. I have found that after they updated the firmware on it, the reproduction is not an issue for me anymore. Before the updates, I could see a sort of double image while moving the headset. It's kind of like a ghosting and a blur effect that was only noticeable while moving. After the update, this is totally gone for me. The mura doesn't bother me as much as others, but I'm the guy that enjoys film grain in movies, so it kind of reminds me of that . I think it's a fair trade for oled blacks and a high dynamic range that only oled can provide in a headset. I don't like that they used fresnel lenses, but after some practice, dialing in the sweet spot is easy. Now I'm going to say something that does bother me and if you don't want it to bother you too stop reading now. Ok, if you look for it in sertan scenes you will notice a small purplish dot that is in the middle of the screen on each eye. It's almost like a reflection, but it's coming from within the headset. It's not super noticeable until you look for it, but once you see it you'll always see it, and it's like a splinter in my mind. Btw I don't get sick at all in this headset. everything feels rock solid and I'm a veteran vr user. I use a rift s on my PC.

Shame that they went with a pintle sub pixel arrangement. I thought that was a really cool feature on the PSVR 1. It feels like there are some really stand out features like eye tracking, face haptics, and the controllers, but Sony kind of dropped the ball when it comes to the display and lenses. I'm sure it will be super popular like the PSVR 1 and a ton of people will really like it, but I think it's a harder sell this time around competing with stand alone headsets especially this early on.

@@LuisReyes-wx5hp I agree that it's a very nice headset (from what I can tell, I haven't actually used one), but I think it might not sell as well as the PSVR 1. Back then the PSVR 1 was a great budget option because it only required a PS4 and not an expensive PC and the whole kit was relatively cheap especially if you already owned a PS4. Now that we have standalone headsets with larger libraries than the current PSVR 2's at a cheaper price, a lot of normies won't care about how much better the performance or experience is. I agree the PSVR 2 is far superior in almost every way to something like a Quest 2, but $400 is a lot easier to swallow than $550 plus a PS5 especially right now with the limited library. I could be wrong. Also the hype around future headsets like the Quest 3 or if Pico ever decides to sell in America could get closer to the PSVR 2 experience.

Had this the first week coming from psvr1, used to 6h sessions with comfort settings off. Still ended up with splitting headaches at first.
2 or 3 things, I turned down the brightness to like 20% for a little over a week (It's a bright headset with the hdr).
The headband ratchet system was also a little aggressive for the first couple of weeks so I found that I was ending up with too much pressure on my head. It's worn in now and is working much better. The last thing is if you have a small ipd then the lenses can push against your nose, changing headset position will remedy this.
All in all I was a little disappointed at first but with some practice and some wear in time I'm finding it very comfortable now for extended sessions playing with full brightness and only turn it down when tired.
      Hope this helps.

This is probably related to the head strap. I would definitely give yourself some time away from the headset, but try seating it differently when you use it next. Too far down the back of my head gives me issues. Maybe someone is offering a top strap solution to add to the PSVR 2 that would be worth trying.

Very well done video. I could not agree more with everything in this video...which is sad to me. I bought a PS5 in November in preparation for PSvr2. After putting it on after all the marketing, hype, and previews on UA-cam, I was so disappointed. I tried to convince myself that it was better than I thought and to give it more time, but between the MURA and the fact that I found the Rift S significantly more comfortable, it just wasn't for me. For the first time in years I had to turn off smooth turning in Horizon. I wasn't getting completely nauseous, but I felt weird. The FOV is one of the things I was very happy with since it felt much larger than my Rift S. I went back and forth between the two with KayakVR and the difference was obvious.
In the end, I just returned it as it didn't feel like it was worth the money to me due to the MURA and comfort. Turning down brightness did nothing for me in that regard.
What's funny is that after a couple of decades of PC gaming, I'm actually enjoying the PS5. The controllers, the quick load times, the fun games, being able to plop on my couch, I'm actually taking a break from PC gaming because of it despite the loss of mods. I didn't expect that, but I love the PS5. It just works and they have significantly closed the gap between PC and console to the point where paying that much for the best graphics isn't worth it to me anymore. It makes little financial sense.
As for VR, I continue waiting for something comfortable and affordable that I will upgrade to from my Rift S.

Maybe the best $550 I've ever spent.
I've owned a Rift, a PS VR1, and an Odyssey+. Played a ton on the Quest 2 as well.
No issues with nausea or sickness here and the screen on this thing blows my O+ away which was also OLED. The HDR is mind blowing, light sources feel genuinely incandescent. Great controllers and comfort levels too. Tracking has been the best I've ever experienced, even better than my Rift with base station tracking.
But the biggest thing here is the games. Gran Turismo 7 and Resident Evil 8 are bonkers good. Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners is a huge improvement over even my gaming PC setup which had a Ryzen and a 2070.
To get this quality of VR for $1,000 is mind-blowing. For entry level, you can't beat this thing and it punches way above its weight class, making setups that cost triple that amount often look lacking.

The screen is epic from my view, looks like your looking at a native 1080p screen, I can see a slight mura when there’s a grey background, I’ve looked for it but I can’t see any screendoor at all, I see the slight flicker when you spin the camera on 60fps repo to 120, but I didn’t get dizzy or anything, maybe stick to native 90fps 4K games like Pavlov or Saints

Ohhh shit. I haven't had any VR sickness issues with PSVR2, but one of the first things I noticed when using it was if I lock my eyes on a post or something, then move my head around with my eyes fix or strafe the character there was there weird blur. I am guessing that is what I was seeing. I noticed it right away but didn't know why.
Also, as a VR veteran I actually just turn my body always in VR, no smooth or snap. Sucks with PSVR2 cause of cord, but I can't go back after wireless, so I still turn body. I am surprised more people or games don't push the idea of just turning your body and never the sticks. So much more natural to me.

Agree with you on all of this. I love the PSVR2 and I don't really get sick when using it, but the flaws you mentioned are all true. Just dragging that brightness slider while turning side to side makes the smudgy ghosting so unbelievably obvious. It's like playing Half Life 1 on my 90s laptop all over again... Lateral head movement in game also looks jittery at times. I'd probably say that this headset puts me closer to my discomfort limit than Quest 2 native, but not as bad as pcvr over airlink or VD, but for different reasons. The latency of wireless PCVR feels about as bad as the ghosting on PSVR2 to me (very latency sensitive guy).
But.... I love it. As long as games keep coming out, this will probably remain my main headset for years. Q3 would have to bring some amazing exclusives for me to care about upgrading from my Q2... Or those MR apps have to be mighty convincing.
I'd still recommend to anyone to buy the PSVR2. It really is an awesome VR headset. Especially if you already have a PS5, or you like Gran Turismo.. It's a no brainer.

But even with 3070 it's a very smooth experience almost without lag, but you really need a good router. I really don't want to change it even to wired Pimax or something else and in 2024 WiFi 7 comes to our lives that is much more suitable for VR. If you want maximum clarity and the best picture through wire and have unlimited amount of money I think most of the people will recommend you Pimax Crystal.

Nvidia rocks for VR, but didn't know AMD was that bad. I can play HL Alyx with my Pico 4 wireless (VD) with constant 90 fps on high ultra. But today I've ordered a 4080 to replace my 3080 because I also ordered a 8KX and this beast needs juice for sim racing.
Try Userbenchmark because maybe you have a bottleneck in your system. I accidentally put the 2nd RAM in the wrong slot and huge difference. Also overclock your memory at least slightly.

So I’ve been a PSVR2 user since day 1 and I’ve only ever used the original Quest and the original PSVR for context. Anytime I ever used smooth turn it immediately made me sick. So I’ve always used snap turn thinking that’s the normal. But this guys review makes me think that when you get to the big headsets like the Valve or Pimax people are by default using smooth turn. Is this true? I’ve never used a PCVR headset (just don’t have the money) but I fucking love VR! And so far the PSVR 2 has been amazing and I haven’t ever really felt sick. But again I’m using snap turning because I though that was what everyone uses since smooth turning immediately makes me sick no matter what headset I try.
If this is true then I can’t imagine how amazing high end PCVR headsets are where people actually do smooth turning and don’t get sick. I hope one day to get a nice PCVR set up. But for now though, the PSVR2 has been really good to me. No Man’s Sky is such an amazing experience on the PSVR2! The price is a little ridiculous but if you already own a PS5 and love VR I recommend getting a PSVR2. Keep in mind this is coming from someone who has never used PCVR sadly :(

    • @BartCunningham
      @BartCunningham Рік тому

I think the nausea issue is happening to a small subset of people as it seems most people are not having this issue. I am not saying that it is not an issue for some people but it doesn't seem like it as as common as Brad and you make it sound. I have also never seen red aura around text and it took me a long time to see to find any Mura effect and I think it is very minimal even when I can find it.
The only time I have any blurry issues is when the headset is worn like other headsets and not the way it should be worn. With the PS VR2 the halo needs to be pulled down much further in the back than other headsets. This may be why Brad states that experienced VR gamers have issues, they are trying to wear this like other headsets and that is not the correct way to wear the headset.

Every new VR headset from the DK1 until now seems to have had a couple of things that really annoyed people. I think it's quite possible that for a lot of people these issues aren't deal breakers, especially once they've been using the headset for a few weeks.

The one thing I like is the software is the exact opposite of PCVR jank. GT7 has this customized polished feel that after hours of tinkering with PCVR, I cannot get with AC or Iracing. Sure GT7 lacks some sim elements, but the pedigree of having a AAA developer completely customize the experience from the ground up is such a reverse from what I'm used to with PCVR. More of this please. I hear Ace Combat is coming too. RE8 is much the same, on PC we get a lot of jank here, much of this is because its a mod(more on that). Walking Dead actually looks and plays better on PSVR2 than PC in all areas, even visually against my 4090. The other thing is we're pretty much down to mods with PCVR at this point. In 2020, the future looked bright for AAA games, and that has fizzled out on PCVR. It's basically a mod community now.

      @decadent. Рік тому

Walking Dead actually looks and plays better on PSVR2 than PC in all areas, even visually against my 4090.
      - That is not true. The visuals are cut back slightly on PSVR2 in terms of shadows and ambient occlusion / volumetric effects and you can easily run SS at 200%.or more on a 4090. However, the differences are minor if you are just playing the game and not looking for them.
      - But I agree the PC version is horrible in terms of optimisation at present. The developers should be ashamed for releasing a game in such a state. I would definitely suggest waiting for patches before playing it on PC.
future looked bright for AAA games, and that has fizzled out on PCVR. It's basically a mod community now.
      - I see that as a positive.
      - AAA VR games will always be few in number because the the market is not big enough. AAA game modded/ported to VR is the best we can hope for.
      - If you have been following the development of the praydog UE mod you will have seen there are now hundreds of AAA running perfectly.
      - That is far more exciting to me than the handful of AAA ports PSVR2 will get in its lifetime (in part) due to the reprojection issue that likely rules out simple ports of 3rd person games.

Hello Bradley, I’ve gone on way too much, in other comments and will keep this short. I’m new to vr psvr2 and I get extreme motion sickness. Especially in call of the mountain. Snap turn is a no go, it kinda breaks the game but here me out, you say your experienced for years with vr and don’t really get sick and call of the mountain makes you sick in around 30mins. Well, I swear to god, all I have to do, is turn the camera once, in call of the mountain and I have instant motion sickness, to the extreme. I’m like, it turns so slow and I still get sick? Why does it feel so stuttering when it should be super high framerate. Anyway, after hearing what you have to say. I have 1 massive question. Is it possible for Sony to change things? Get native 90hz instead of targeting 60 and using the reprojection? Or whatever it’s called, that causes major motion sickness? Or is it like, it will make gsmes look worse and Sony won’t do that? Or maybe they use the system they use because psvr2 simply can’t do native 90? I’m just utterly sick of feeling extremely dizzy, sweaty and sick, after 1 turn of camera in call or mountain or maybe 5-20mins on something else. I literally try and struggle through 15mims of call of the mountain and it really don’t feel worth it.

I got used to the mura pretty quickly as it is not as bad as on the PSVR1. I've had many sessions of several hours straight on GT7 with no sickness though I do often find it hard to stay in the sweet spot. The VR showroom mode where you can walk around fully ray traced cars is quite spectacular if you have enough floorspace to physically do it. I found if I positioned a car diagonally across my room I could pretty much walk from bumper to bumper. The motion reprojection is quite jarring when passing other cars at speed. So fascinating that we are in territory so new that the concept of "Veteran" VR users vs new users may lead to different experiences in ways that are still being described before us. Wow.

TLDR- I can play almost anything in VR for hours straight if the HMD fits right and I am already feeling good, but on the other hand a HMD can make a mild headache so severe nausea sets in...
This is all very interesting to me. I've only ever truly gotten motion sick from VR, or any other video entertainment, a few times in my life (The big one that I can remember was some janky horror game on PSVR 1 using the DS4) despite being weirdly resistant to motion sickness (I get nauseous in the back seat of some cars, but not really anywhere else, not even on small boats in the ocean). However I'm very prone to headaches and migraines and just wearing a HMD, or tight motorcycle helmet can kick one off. If they get bad enough I'll become very nauseous, no matter how or where they start. I thought the Quest 1 might have been making me motion sick at first, but I quickly realized it was just from wearing it, after having it on my head, powered off for around 10 minutes. Also, I still can't help but wonder if, or how much, eye strain might play into "motion sickness". After heavily modding my Quest 1 it completely stopped causing me headaches, but it definitely will still exacerbate a current one- to the point of nausea if I don't stop within 5 to 15 minutes. I don't plan on buying a PSVR 2 but I would love to try one.

The psvr2 mantis is the answer for audio. It's the snap on type you mentioned.

will add for headphones. I actually bought the dedicated playstation pulse headphones for my Oculus rift s....because the playstation pulse headphones have much wider clearance where a halo head-strap would be.
top strap issue could be solved with 3rd party mod. good that the persistance can be fixed by lowering brightness....given that the headset does sort of work on pc (2000 series nvidia cards). would love to see sony add pc support, than games like call of the mountain could be run at native 120fps. but I know that is very unlikely to ever happen.
there are also ps5 pro rumours for 2024. but I also think that unlikely

SONY is nuts, to set reprojection 120hz as the default presentation.
EVEN MY 3080 cant handle Half life Alyx consistently 120hz with valve index. (even lower res than 4K)
SONY need to set 90hz as the default setting for all AAA tittles, 120hz with performance setting should come with future updates.
while waiting for PS5pro coming next year.

What about cinematic mode for non-VR media? I feel like it would be great for immersion in darker/ suspenseful horror games.

I'm a little disappointed with the cinematic mode on the PSVR2. You get the larger screen and all, but the resolution is 1080p. I prefer playing 2D games on my 4K monitor with the PS5.

I'm anxious about getting a psvr2 just on account of fresnel lenses. They just lose so much depth and dimensionality. I have a reverb G2 and even though it has excellent resolution, its fresnel lenses just kill the sense of depth I got used to having on the PSVR1. Yea it had low resolution, but that oled screen combined traditional glass lenses made for the best sense of true space I've ever experienced in a headset.
