I advised my friend to break up because her relationship was not healthy. She argued that she can't because kids are involved. I replied that she should focus on self-care, be a model of self-care for her kids, and move out of the toxic relationship.

I also believe that we stay in relationships as well because we lack self love and’ the understanding of this.. and we stay because we’re conditioned to belief that we don’t give up that they will change.. as well that it’s our responsibility to show love and never give up...
From my experience, I can say there was some codependency because I was seeking true love, but also I did not want to let go the person because I felt they were hurt and I was responsible to showing that they are loved!!!

@@anupriyamishra4350 one day I read a line from a someone talking about toxic relationship.. the line was “don’t be an asshole to yourself.” Snd another person told me “stop making excuses for them.”
These two lines hit me in the head that I really needed to conquer all fears and backlashes, and “take responsibility of my own happiness.”
Because “you cannot change others, they have to make the changes within themselves.” So better to value yourself and move on with your life if you chances to them bare no lessons or changes
So true my marriage has really served me well to look into my shadow n patterns I have been holding since childhood n I can really grow spiritually..I show gratitude to god for giving me my soulmate as my life partner..

You know what Dr Shefali....thank you for saying the exact words...that I was...saying. Codependency! I left it! Not because that person was abusive...but because I was unintentionally trying to stay in that same DYNAMICS. But guess what....an awakening time knocks at everyones' door...I chose to open my door towards that awakening and closed the doors upon old DYNAMICS!

But what about if kids are involved in a relationship... ???? What should be the right decision so that children don’t suffer from an unhealthy relationship between the parents ?
it's best to model self care to them by healing yourself, which sometimes can only happen by removing yourself from a toxic relationship and work on being codependent with yourself (self-parenting) rather than with another person. that's what I am doing, and it has provided more security to my children. it's showing them how to stand up for themselves. wishing you the best.
