    Just checked and there are only 414 Corsairs on the road in the UK now!
    My dad got a new B reg automatic one in 1964, we drove from UK through the Alps to Italy in it. It went rusty and was scrapped in about 1971 so it was only 7 years old! Amazed this one can be on the road after 58 years. We used to have fun with petrol pump attendants trying to find the filler which is under the back number plate.
    I got one as my first car and all the copper colour metallic paint was peeling off the roof.
    I had another one years later that I bought for £50. Starter motor broke and I could not afford one from the scrappie so I drove it for about three weeks until payday bumping it down hills to start it.
    Not a Ford fanatic but I have a soft spot for these.

      How many Mk1 Mondeos on the road ? I think there is even less?

    • @grolfe3210
      @grolfe3210 6 місяців тому

      @@Efferpheasants Probably true, the website (How many left) does not break down the mks very well. They are being scrapped at a fast rate, there were 14,000 of all mks on the road in 2003 and now only 700 in 2023.

    My old Corsair was the cover car in the March 2008 issue of Retro Ford magazine. Powered by a 330bhp Sierra RS Cosworth YB turbo engine and T5 gearbox with a narrowed Capri lsd rear axle. Cheers. Leigh.

    Essex version V4 made in Dagenham. Wonder is it is much different to the Ford Germany Taunus V4 one, that SAAB licenced and used in their 96 car, that they really tuned for rallying. They got over 200bhp out of one version, had a turbo on it's V4. Rough engines they all were though.

    • @Efferpheasants
      @Efferpheasants 2 роки тому

      The Essex and Cologne engine are completely different not a same bolt between them. Obviously because the Cologne engine is German it has a better reputation than the Essex.

  • @raftonpounder6696
    @raftonpounder6696 2 роки тому +4

    The V4 was a poor engine. The first car I was ever in was my dad’s V4 Corsair when he brought me and my mum home from the hospital after I was born in 1968.

    • @huwzebediahthomas9193
      @huwzebediahthomas9193 2 роки тому +2

      They had a balance shaft that run under the crankshaft to make it run smooth, runs at a different speed to the crank. Engine gets rough and blows up if the gear cogs and chain/belt goes lose with wear.

    Matter of interest what insurance are you with as I'm interested in a classic ford but at some point do an engine swap/ change over.
