We were the only white kids with the ballz to break out and boogie up and down the street to so-called "black music". We were tight with everybody on the block. We eventually got everybody to loosen up and dance. Block parties went from little barbecues to rip-roarin' dance parties. We eventually had seniors, both black and white dancing with one another to Motown and 50's compilations ! ! ! Damn, my buddy and I were tighter with the black folk because they were all about the music and the love.

You're exactly right. Eddie fulfilled his mission on this Earth, then he left us. Reminiscent of a shooting star. He came into view, blazed brightly, then disappeared. He brought us joy with his beautiful voice. He was sooo handsome, women still swoon and drool over him. I am one of those women. If I was around back then, I would have been a stalker. I love Eddie Kendricks!💞💋💞

Thank you whoever posted this version; it's the bomb! Hey, all you 50 and up year olds--do you remember the Funky Breakdown? I can still do that and the Bump! This 8 minute version is the album version. It's the length Kendricks wanted. First song, second (B) side of LP: 8 minutes long. The single was Keep On Truckin' (Part 1) with Part 2 on the flip. Not sure if those two equal the full album version in length. Probably not on a 45.
Fantastic 👍👍❤️❤️❤️ takes me back to the day....à teen-ager...in the dance club I went with me mate. I can see myself now doing the dance....great days and music...no trouble.. no drugs ,no drunks. Just pure fun 👍👍💯❤️😢
georgelee....lighten up, baby. Eddie's high tenor is showcased in this fun, frolicky tune. You must be having a baaaad fro day to say something like that. Eddie knew amazing fame. And that smile don't lie, honey....
Eddie hit the national top 40 4 times in his career-"Keep On Truckin', Pt. 1" in 1973, "Boogie Down" and "Son of Sagittarius" in 1974 and "Shoeshine Boy" in 1975. "Truckin'" and "Boogie Down" went to #1 and #2 respectively. After Eddie left The Temptations never had another #1 single and only hit the top 10 once--"Masterpiece" in early 1973. David Ruffin hit the top 10 twice--"My Whole World Ended (The Moment You Left Me)" in 1969 and "Walk Away from Love" in 1975.
The music from this era was so energetic and it made you feel good. We used to have so much fun dancing and playing music during our block parties in Newark, New Jersey.
Loved this song by Eddie Kendricks it reminds me of my US Army years 1973 to 19777 I’m from the East Coast and we had our own style of dancing! I’m a very conservative type person and dancing reflects it😊🎶🎶🎶✌️

I've been wanting to hear this song for a while. Whoever lived in my house 20 years before me wrote "keep on truckin" on my bedroom ceiling, and it's been there ever since. Never knew what it meant until now. Awesome.

"keep on truckin" was a phrase that was in the air at the time, though never really mainstreamed and kind of short lived. i don't recall white kids in the 'burbs ever saying it as part of their lexicon.
possibly an extract/crop of the Robert Crumb comic panel that got (probably unofficially repro'd / bootlegged and) turned into prints and posters. Plus going by what I read in the 90s the posters/print versions led to the line being taken up as a hippie (hippy) / 70s slightly less hippie ((hippy) post hippie hippyish scene and The Grateful Dead had there own song Truckin' - it doesn't quote the line but may or may not be inspired by or could easy get associated with it. What a great tune! I still recall the first time I ever heard this song... it was late on a Saturday night during the Christmas break in 1974. One of my childhood hobbies was tuning in AM radio stations from far away (from my home in Albuquerque). One of my favorite stations to listen to was the late, great XROCK 80 (remember them?) If I recall correctly, it was Wolfman Jack who spun the disc that night.
Thank you for posting this long (album) version of this classic dance track, still relevant to today - the Temptations, Eddie Kendricks, David & Jimmy Ruffin, Dennis Edwards - keep playing, keep on jumping - DAVEDJ
The 70s were the best as a young boy the music was all over the place. I remember this tune blasting out of my AM radio that I attached to my bike. Eddie Kendrick had that soulful voice that made this song go. And like someone once said every hero has to have a good theme song. I’m taking this one.

Awesome tune! Eddie Kendricks rocks! I had an orange "Keep On Truckin'" poster in my room back in the 1970's. Great times, great music.
