This song is dedicated to Washington,D.C. M.P.D. Officer Gail Cobb who was the 1st female officer killed in the line of duty. This was her favorite song.Gail was an exceptional police officer & wonderful human being who's life was needlessly cut short while helping to foil a bank robbery in October 1974.Gail is still loved & missed everyday. Gail, love still feels the need & I'm sure you've found that happy home among the angels. The city & many lives are better because of you & your sacrifice.
Beautiful personal tribute to who you described as a wonderful human being. I certainly understand her choice of Eddie’s track ‘Tell Her Love Has Felt the Need. Peace
What I like about this song is that the man is giving the woman the chance to find someone that would best fit her needs. He realizes that whatever he has won't be enough so its best to just break it off. It has to be one of the more gutwrenching things a man can do but to tell a woman you loved that he is not what she needs
Love, love, love Eddie Kendricks. This song, more than any other captures the sweetness of his voice. It was so pure, clear and angelic. That voice along with the words of this song takes me back in time and makes me cry every single time. What a gift he was! I miss you, Eddie. But I'm sooo glad you still live thru your music. Thank you, Angel590, for sharing this gem.
A poem that reads like a song...a song that sings like a poem...I just can't tell what came first...I woke up this morning having to hear this ...Eddie Kendricks had what I consider the best falsetto of any man...This song is a prime example of his excellence and the song itself is a masterpiece...Eddie was a true genius...the lyrics of this poem or song came from his own mind body and soul...which makes it even more special...All you kids wondering what R&B is...Look up Eddie Kendricks...
Eddie was the consumate entertainer. I love the way he interprets a song. This song blows me away. I've listened to it over and over. Man, love can be baffling at times.
My favorite Eddie Kendricks (that I've been blessed to hear) song of his solo career. The soulfulness of Eddie's high pitch vocals is unmatched and as Al Green stated, "Simply Beautiful".
Eddie Kendrick the perfect prototype falsetto. The Paradigm/Model for the Soul/R&B singing that gave rise to the late 60s and 70s. Every group had to have an "Eddie". Proud to say Eddie is a "Bama" by birth...so am I (Alabama).
To me the song is about a man who felt he either wasn't man enough for her or the love she wanted he couldn't give so breaks off the relationship in a very sophisticated manner
This song is too personal and sad but beautiful at the same time. Its not the kind of song that anyone can make. Love how mellow the groove is but so so sad.
I was blessed to have been a child growing up when such gems were made; 1974......I remember listening to is at my Grandmothers in the projects of Newark, NJ, on the old "stereo console"; I would listen to this album, Innervisions (73) and other masterpieces for hours and hours on end. The music of that era helped shaped who I am today.
I really love this song. They don't make songs like this where a man is not afraid to reveal his true feelings. It takes a lot of guts for a man to admit his vulnerablities.
I need to tell these exact words to a woman who I need to leave. She's a GREAT woman, but I can never be what she wants of me. Thank you Eddie Kendricks for this beautiful song.
It must have been hard for you to accept the criticism, opticals, opinions and doubts, from the people but they do not know what it is like being a Loner like you were. You were the quiet type keeping the Temptations together. When one of them had a problem you were there for them. You did the best you could and God Blessed your career later on. I was coming out of a bad relationship when you recorded this song. I didn't give up because it was true, but my love came through U and your song. RIP
I read here on the intrnet that eddie had 3 brothers and one sister - eddie was the second child. According to tony Turner who wrote the book ' Deliver us from Temptation" Flo Ballard said, that Eddie was a mama's boy -which makes me love and admire him more.
I can play this over and over and over and over! This song rocks! GOOD beat. crazy about Eddie but I love me some David Ruffin! that will never change! bring it home baby to MOTOWN! baby!
This is one of most beautifully orchestrated songs . With the 🎻 and beautiful piano play., Cornbread's falsetto voice is just like adding another instrument to this wonderful song. One of Eddie's best ballard's . I can never get enough of this song....
Can't believe how beautiful his voice is AND his songs are, his lyricist and arranger are OOTW, and he's a touch above Marvin Gaye, and only David ruffin can come close to him. So so glad I was alive to get get CLOSE to his music before it passes away and I pass away. He is is a glorious GLORIOUS singer.
I love you Eddie Kendricks this my favorite breakup song any man that loved a woman and could not be what she needed but was man enough to move on.....
Sounds like a angel singing. Great voice with fantastic music. One of my favorites from Eddie. Bitter sweet as sometimes relationship can be. Sing my brother!
I loved this song since I was a little girl....!!!! It made me smile then as it does now!!!!! Back then it was with anticipation of the love and romance I would find in the future.... Well I found a lot of love and I got six beautiful kids to prove it!!!!! Guess, I just knew. Cheers and smiles.....
This song, ooh this song does something to me. Makes me wanna go back in time to my first love. Ooh, baby, baby. Definitely on of the "Classic Love Making Songs" from back in the day!!!
I'm glad that Eddie went solo and made these beautiful recordings that he never would have made with The Temptations. He had a great solo career. Music careers can't stay at the top of the charts forever. That doesn't mean the music isn't great. Even if he hadn't gotten lung cancer, Eddie still might have lost his voice as many singers do as they age or, at least, they can't hit all the notes they used to. It's okay. This song is beautiful and Eddie is a legend!
Eddie rocked this song! You can't get any better than this!! The song just put you in a peaceful state and that's what the 70's music did. It was all about love! Peace
A musical magic man in you know I have been blessed to meet a few guys in my life who looked in had the same body frame in just cool just like Eddie it must be a Alabama spirit
Listening right now! For all those who are only familair with him as a member of the greatest male vocal group in history of the world the "Temptations", please listen to his solo discography! His voice!❤ you are in for a wonderful treat! You'll be happy you did!
Smooth Llight and relaxing voice of Ed Kendrick and soothing and entertaining. Dancing- Singing-and Entertaining too. WOW. is their and copy cats out their? ok lets here it, we need to keep stress so far from us all, and this is the Remedy. YES.
I always said this song was way too short. Never heard this version so thanks a million. I was a mail carrier in 1975 in Chicago when my daughter mother sister passed. This song will forever remind me of seeing Reta Willis going across the street in a beautiful white dress. TO A FUNERAL! That was Reta. Always a grand entrance. bilbo2shire

EDIE AT HIS VERY BEST.
There will never be another sweet, soul falsetto tenor as Eddie Kendricks. RIP my brother!

Wow
a gem from summer 1974.
My favorite Temp-his voice is incomparable. Truly a gift from God.
" I could never be what she wants of me"
"...I could never be what she wants of me...tell her love has felt the need to leave her...tell her love has felt the need to FREE her..."
Love me some Eddie. No voice like his.

Yes Very True!
My favorite Eddie Kendricks (that I've been blessed to hear) song of his solo career. The soulfulness of Eddie's high pitch vocals is unmatched and as Al Green stated, "Simply Beautiful".
One of the truest falsettos in history of R&B. Also sang beautifully in his natural register. HIstorical.
The lyrics to this song are so heartfelt. And with Eddie Kendricks singing....... it makes you weep.
Eddie Kendrick the perfect prototype falsetto. The Paradigm/Model for the Soul/R&B singing that gave rise to the late 60s and 70s. Every group had to have an "Eddie". Proud to say Eddie is a "Bama" by birth...so am I (Alabama).
Man...almost 40 years later and this song still tears my heart out. One of the most beautiful love songs ever done. Thanks for posting the song
I Know how you feel. I'm wiping tears away as Eddie does what he does best...expressing love❤❤❤❤❤
Not sad honesty is the best policy!
I love the beginning lyrics. ..IN THE MORNING WHEN SHE WAKES o how nice and smooth - sing Eddie sing
