@Beyond Bailey I'm excited for you! Name a group and a song and it will play it for you. Say play a trivia game and it will. Ask about the weather. It can play old time radio shows. Look it up on UA-cam for more usage. I hope this helps you. You can listen to the news and just have a lot of fun with it. Once you get the echo plugged in you will download an app from your phone or computer to get it started.

I also purchased my Echo 2nd Gen on Black Friday. It was $79.99 and they offered to break the charge up over 5 months. How could I say no? I have been loving it. It works great with my Fire TV stick and some home automation devices I have in the home. It has been great and I am seriously thinking about buying another one for another part of the house.

This is very useful for people who are not able to use their hands. I have a patient he is bedridden and has quadriplegia. He uses Alexa to make calls to his family, change his tv and radio in the nursing home. It gives freedom and ability to do certain things because he can’t use his hands at all and he never will. This is a great thing and kind of fun to use. It is very user friendly and so awesome. I don’t see why some people are having negative comments and so against it. Just give it try and if you are so against it why are you watching videos on now to unpack it and use it.

The 1st Echo you used to be able to manually turn the volume up and down by twisting the top clockwise and counterclockwise. I just tried to turn the 2ng Gen but it doesn't have that option.

I have an echo dot 2nd gen, I don't get it very one says it has a bad speaker but it doesn't, as long as you stay under volume 8
There was also supposedly a software update, there was a glitch in the software.

I think if you have a restriction on volume then it’s probabaly not that great.
got the 2nd gen product red today... fantastic device... paired up with my hue lights, fireTv and termostate pretty much does it all... wonder why it took me so much to get one.
I have both alexa and google,other than a toy for trivia or music they have no real purpose, one use I could see for these devices is a wheel chair bound person, with smart appliances, lights switches and so on. This would be very helpful

I got mine today and I really like it i bought mine at Best Buy. for $84. I got the Regular black color one.
You can change the wake word to Echo,Amazon or Computer.
i just ordered one, only because it was on sale for 89 dollars, and because i need a bluetooth speaker anyways so why not grab one of these and see how neat they are.
Could I hook up to my big screen via toslink cable plus converter via 3.5 x rca cables?
Will it connect to the WiFi from the tablet only ? I don’t have WiFi in home but I do have it on my iPad. Will Alexa still work??

I just got mine that was a free replacement from Amazon because the original Echo I got for Christmas 8 months ago or so would not stay connected and I had to unplug and replug it in to work for that day. Now I just got this same one but when I connect to WiFi it then says to go to the Alexa app but when I do it says it's not connected tpo WiFi after it just finished saying it was connected and to go to my Alexa app previously. This kept going on and on back and forth with the same thing so I'm calling a friend to see if there's something I'm doing wrong or if another Echo is trash. I followed all the instructions but it turned into a vicious cycle of back and forth, connected, go to app, then not connected then on my WiFi list it said it was out of range when it was 4 feet away.
And that Amazon Alexa thing is kind of like an echo die just like the top of it yeah looks like the echo die if you look on top of it 2:25
I have the dot and I have a 35 dollar Bluetooth speaker and I think it was the best decision of my life to get the dot

Matthew Tracey the echo will work as long as there is a power source and as long as you have access to an internet source like (WiFi, or Cellular data)

No, for whatever reason I couldn't make myself buy the Echo Plus. I probably should (I don't have any type of smart home hub besides the Philips Hue one for my lights).

Not it doesnt use a battery, you need to plug it in the wall using a adaptor

The reality is the dot really just is the controller as far as I'm aware and not a fuller range speaker that's all :)
Dont know though the differences between the echo and the echo plus though, it's the latter what I have on order at least right now, should be the week after next I get it since takes a little while here to arrive annoyingly haha!
I believe yeah those features are in the Echo Plus like Zigbee or whatever it's called, at the moment just have a Fire TV stick as well as a relatively old (back in 2016) Fire Tablet so going to make my new flat/apartment when I move into it an Amazon Smart home haha!
Got a light though for the like smaller desk lamp I have, need to find out when I move in what light connections the newer flat of mine has then I'll be replacing them all with ones that work with Amazon the Philips Hue ones, I really like the idea of having dimmers back since I miss that when coming back from my mums (UK for mom obviously haha) plus love the idea of using it as a kind of both an alarm clock and to turn on lights automatically so incase of intruders will be less likely to think a persons in when no one is that's the most exciting part I think!

it keeps telling me that it's having trouble connecting to the internet. I'm using my phone, it's connected to the internet, but alexa tells me to connect to Amazon. There is no Amazon wifi listed. I have bluetooth turned on. not sure what to do

I'm very upset with my echo 2nd gen, I go to set it up and its telling me to connect To the Amazon-XXX network but it says internet unavailable, then says if that pops up tap it for more options then select yes but nothing's happening when I tap, then it says im "connected" then I choose my Wi-Fi and then it ALWAYS says there was an error. Please help

I have the exact same issue! it connects to the Amazon-XXX network but then you're suppose to go back to the Alexa app and connect to WiFi and it won't connect. I have an echo dot and have no issues at all with that one.

Please help me understand why things like this are getting popular, i just don't understand, I mean with phones and tablets having google assistant or siri (or even alexa and cortana if you want) built in i don't understand why these things exist

Not sure for other people, but for me, I don't always have my phone in a place where Siri or Google Assistant can hear me (doesn't work from my pocket) and having music or Audible audiobook playback from a device with a decent speaker, not taking battery/data from my phone, is really nice.

Some people just have to have the most current item. For example, IPhone 10 came out a short time go. Should Apple say their coming out with an iPhone 11 these same people would rush out to get it in no time and if Apple said an iPhone 12 was coming out a week later these same jerks would turn in their iPhone 11's to get the 12. More money then sense(cents).
I like being able to walk into my kitchen and say "ALEXA, play my pandora radio" and have it instantly play music while I clean or cook. Also, while cooking with gloves covered in food, I can answer my phone, turn on light, tv and do virtually anything without touching anything.
Spend a week with alexa. Learn a fraction of her capabilities. You'll life won't be the same with her

Soooo basically it answers questions any internet search does and plays music like any pair of speakers? What is the attraction here, voice interface? I just don't get it why these things are so popular and WAY overpriced. If it was 20 bucks I could see buying one...but a hundred and up for something my cheap logitech speakers do (likely better) and question answers any one of half a dozens devices in my home can already answer? Pass.
