I know my sister won't. I am the real techie in my family. I bought my parents a Echo Dot but they hardly use it. But maybe they would use the Show more. We shall see. I want to see more review videos before I go there.
Hopefully you'll realize there are twin speakers in the base of the Echo Show. Put two Google Home speakers on their sides and place them next to the Show. Then you can compare booties.

You will need the Alexa app which is completely free. You can use the Alexa calling feature to call friends who have the Alexa app on their smartphone or tablet. Your friends won't necessarily need an Echo Show to video chat with you as I understand it, though I could be wrong of course.
Not sure why you expected it to look like a tablet. You can't have good audio in a tablet sized device. There has to be space for speakers and physics says you need larger speakers for bass response.

I feel you. I have security cameras in my house and there are times where I will turn it around or put the box cover it came in over the thing while getting dressed in the morning. Sometimes I feel someone could be looking at me and I don't want them to see me. So if I were to get this I would not put it upstairs but in my Kitchen where normally I am fully dressed. Unless I come downstairs for a late night snack. LOL.

Well yeah its big... But do you really want something that has really good sound or do you want something that is thin but has worse quality sound. Plus there is a lot of components that Amazon has to fit in there. I think overall this is the best form factor...
