Meet the Voters Who Will Decide the Election | WSJ State of the Stat

- Going into the 2024 presidential election, nearly a third of voters aren't sold on President Biden or Donald Trump. So-called “persuadable" voters say they are undecided or might consider voting for a third-party candidate in November. Traditionally, a Democrat has to be up by four or five points in national polling to have the strength to win in the electoral college. So how will these voters impact the election?
WSJ breaks down what we know about the "persuadables," and why winning them over could be more essential to President Biden than Donald Trump.

RFK 2024
So you maintain an electoral college on the premise that you don’t want the winner to be the one with the most votes yet the elections all fall down to maybe 5 states?
not even 5 states... Pa, Mi, and Wi will decide who will be the next president
A person may have different concerns when he/she move to different community. And ppl are likely to follow the mainstream based on their social scope. When you do popular votes in country with vast land and some highly centralized metro areas like US, you are eventually making metro population way more important than everyone else. Rather than “being fair”, It is more like creating more political campaigns in big metro areas and making elites living in metro areas more influential. Though you are only commenting on the system without siding. I assume you are reciting democrat’s cliche narrative about majority (or highly educated or younger ppl) cannot speak because of a wicked system. The thing is that Biden may lose popular vote too, according to current poll.
Your prefer 5 cities determine the outcome?
It falls down to 7 states
@@ZackyVillainto take your logic to the limit: If 99% of the population is in the city and 1% in rural areas they should be considered equal in voting? Ofc not, the 99% should count for 99% and 1% should count for 1%.
Your suggestion is similar to France’s system of voting before the revolution that there were 3 classes all with one vote, while the bottom class represented 95% of the population in a single vote
I want to meet the people that can't decide between trump and biden. What information are they waiting for?
Two wings of the same dying bird
It's not that we can't decide, it's that we don't want either.
One wants to give me gonorrhea, one wants to give me chlamydia.
We're adults here. When faced with a choice of two STDs, I'll vote for someone else.
I get that but they are vastly different....if you want to vote, it should be pretty easy to know who you are voting for, who is more consistent with your values or important issues.
I will absolutely not be voting biden. That leaves RFK and Trump. Its not just a choice of biden or trump
@@triarii9257 RFK jr may be a good third option he has 20%-30% of the populous vote maybe he could take a few states, he looks to be getting higher votes then any other 3rd party member in US history, and once people see him on the ballot as a third party option he’s expected to gain a couple percentage points more.
I just want someone below 60 😒
JFK was 43 years when he was elected
Go third party
Then you should've voted for them in the primary.
Ageist, but of three candidates, Kennedy is the best overall, but Harris would make a better VP with her requisite experience.
@@rockonmadonna How is it ageist to realize that these people are voting on things that they won't even live to see the effects of? The only vested interest they have left is robbing everyone of everything and pissing it away before they die.
why are these two still the only choice America has?
I think the biggest problem American voters have is not educating themselves. When we have homelessness caused by fifty years of wage suppression and people who never got help after 2008 collapse together with excessively low taxes on the wealthy and corporations it's never been clearer which party to vote for.
Cannabis destroys memories
I like how what the interviewed person is saying barely correlates with the graphs shown in the video. I mean, come on, he says persuadables dont care about immigration and care a lot about the economy ,even though immigration is the top issue for like 20% of the people in that group, and the economy is barely 5 percentage points higher.
"Why cant I have somebody else" people say as primary elections have some of the lowest turnouts every election cycle.
Those are mostly mock elections anyway, if a president is up for reelection there's essentially no chance of anyone else winning. Not to mention it's not like there were any good candidates on either side this year anyway.
In other countries, voter turnout is much higher. I don't understand why people don't vote
They just securitised fence-sitters into an asset class for betting enthusiasts 😂
As a moderate voter who doesn't support extremes on both sides no way I would vote Trump back in office. What he did after losing in 2020 was crazy and man like that should never hold that kind of power in his hands. His plans to put in even more crazy people around him just makes him much more dangerous.
RFK is the best choice
Dude has won the hearts of the young generation (my generation) who feel used and disenfranchised by the government.
@@tony_5156 I have thought about that but what will that do put Rump back in office. Biden is the lesser two evils IMO. Rump was too dumb to put yes men around him last time this time around he will do that and we very well could be the last time we ever vote for a president. Don't think Nazi Germany can't happen right here in the US. Won't be Jews but could be immigrants. Easy to turn a blind eye when he is rounding people up. Not you so who cares what he is doing.
Fighter never won. They cheated. They cheated the elections. Trump never cheated in the elections.
We can start voting green and if you get your parents in on it and actually start spreading the word we could have a chance or at least show hope for a next election to everyone else who says “it’s impossible”. Some great options are Claudia de la Cruz and Jill stein. I even like rfk jr he’s cool too. Start doing research and spreading the word!!
I'm fascinated by the notion that Biden's fitness as president is in question but not Trump's.
They are basically the same age and I don't know how people don't see that. The only thing is that Trump cultists don't see an age with Trump but as a higher power entity.
Exactly….trump is literally diagnosed obese while Biden is fit just has a bad knee. Also trump talks nonsense constantly and forgets while Biden messes up from his stutter but corrects himself right away 99% of the time
Trump is only 2 years “younger” than Biden . They are both too old
Yeah, people missed the part where Trump is 77.
He is old enough to see Joseph Stalin on TV, or hear him on the Radio. Or see America get it's 50th state.
@@wiktorjachyra1869Four more years....pause
Any candidate who promised to build 10 million homes would win every single vote from young people.
Rfk jr
Or promise to not let 10 million illegal immigrants to not take up the housing.
@@makaicreative How do you do that? Check every house to see if someone is an immigrant and their visa has expired?
Until most of the Boomers voted to prevent that, in order to protect the high property values of their nest eggs…
Nope, if trump said that and actually meant it, they would still choose social issues over it
How is it so casual to Americans that Democrats usually need more votes to win the electoral college?
Because the electoral college represents both individual voters as well as sub federal political bodies. The bigger issue with the US is the first past the pole system that has created the extreme partisanship and the two party system.
Because you clearly don’t understand how the electoral system works
I mean, let’s be honest. Trump’s gonna win both the popular vote and electoral vote unless something drastically changes in the next year. I ain’t committed to either candidate; I hate both. But I’d honestly bet money Trump will win. Biden only just about scraped by in 2020. With Afghanistan, Palestine, the economy, and polls showing most independents feel the Democrats are politically prosecuting Trump and sympathize with him, Biden’s going to have a hard time winning. Maybe the overturning of Roe v Wade could win him it, but I honestly doubt it
The south wanted to protect slavery
Learned helplessness
I think I want RFK, since he probably won’t die of old age while in office
I lived in a country that voted for the guy that became a dictator. He and his supporters talked and acted exactly like Trump and his supporters. I wish I had a better option than Biden but, for as long as the Republican Party welcomes anti-democracy sentiment, I will never vote for them. Then there is third party but, as well all know, the spoiler effect guarantees that voting third party is the same as giving half a vote for the candidate you disagree with the most. And why would I do that to myself?
The Democratic Party also welcomes anti-democracy sentiment and voting third party is _not_ the same as giving half a vote for the candidate you disagree with the most.
@@Nanofuture87 not as strongly and yes it is. It’s simple math. If you don’t know how it works already look it up.

I don't know how these graphs are constructed but I'd assume the interests are normalized. So we'd see persuadables much more interested in their core issues than the general public. Not just equal.
What issues do they beat the general public on then?
It comes down to this: of the two, who is the least worst candidate?

RFK for the future!

Gosh leaving RFK out of these discussions is criminal by the media. The media can, on its own, push the idea that there are more than two options. I just don’t understand why they dont
Because RFK pulls more often from potential Biden voters than Trump voters, so elevating RFK hurts Biden more. Which is why they don't want to allow that.
Because the media has a bias towards one of the two parties, they fund, support and profit off the corruption.
I assumed or thought the GOP’s moral authority went south after GW Bush and 20 years of carnage in the Middle East.
So how can you vote for Biden who authorized the Iraq war?
Only one of the two candidates voted for the Iraq war. Can you guess which one?
I will just abstain my vote this year. Not interested in either of them.
Trump is very interested in you paying more taxes so that he can give the money to the rich. It was his most successful policy the last time he was president.
If you can spare the time I would suggest voting for a third party candidate that resonates most with you. It won't change anything, but it helps to make a point that the parties are not resonating with a lot of people.
That will elect Trump. His supporters aren't staying home because they bought into having a bad guy wrestler character as a President. Ditto for a third party candidate. It's a vote for Trump's cult with the full support of a right wing Supreme Court to take away more rights.

@@Nanofuture87 Due to COVID. That's like blaming FDR's inflationary policies to counteracting extremely high-spending in WW2 and saying that he shouldn't have done that (the economic inflationary numbers are even worse for FDR: 8% by the end of 1945, 14% under Truman in 1946). WW2 & COVID were global disasters - - and required large spending. Of course, it doesn't help that unlike what Truman and Congressional Republicans (who won their midterm in 1946) did in the late 40s and early 50s by balancing budgets and lessening the economic strain on the American people, Biden and the Congressional Democrats have effectively continued to increase the money supply and at an even heavier rate than COVID. Trump is partially to blame, Biden definitely is more so to blame.
@@themainmanborahI do blame FDR for having bad monetary policies: he was a terrible president and his legacy is still causing problems for us today. It actually goes goes back further than that. Ever since we started measuring the economy after the Great Depression, almost every economic indicator is significantly better under the Democrats than the Republicans.
The economy tanked under Republicans but the important thing is that the wealthy got to keep more cash if they could make any under those governments. Job done.
