CALLING ALL GUITARISTS! Robby Krieger is hoping you can help him find his first guitar! Robby’s iconic red Gibson SG Special was the guitar he used to audition for The Doors, to write “Light My Fire,” and to record the first two Doors albums.
Tragically, it went missing many years ago. But hopefully you can help! If you have a ’63 or ’64 Gibson SG Special, check the back of the neck for serial number 88779. You might have Robby’s guitar!
If you find it, and it can be authenticated, we will buy the guitar from you, and will also give you an exclusive hand-signed Gibson SG hand-painted by Robby Krieger, along with an autographed copy of his new book, SET THE NIGHT ON FIRE.

Hopefully, you get your guitar back like Peter Frampton got his back years later. BTW, reading your book, almost finished, and I love it so far. Better than either of the prior two Doors autobiographies.
Billy Corgan got his stolen guitar back too, 2 years ago [after 27 years] so I have high hopes !

A true fan would return the guitar, I’m sure now it’s worth a couple hundred thousand so there’s that especially the history behind the guitar
It's a special relationship with history for a man and his instrument. I hope it finds it's way back home. Noone can appreciate that guitar as much for what it's meant to the legendary songs it's composed.
I had a 69 Stratocaster stolen. Heart-wrenching. I think my soul left my body that day...
I think Paul McCartney finding his original Hofner bass has inspired some pro musicians from the 1960's to not give up on finding their lost instruments. It's worth a shot and as a huge fan of the Doors, I hope Mr Krieger finds that first Gibson SG.

Since the release of this video it’s been clarified that the serial number of the guitar is 88779 (the SG Standard listed in the manifest in this video).

My heart goes out to you. I'm on a hunt for the past several years for my left handed factory Gibson J-50 from 1967 as well as a 1964 left handed Gibson B-25-12 string. I sold both foolishly in hard times.
Billy Corgan recently got his Gish Strat back, after someone stole it from a concert in the 90's. I hope you get it back soon. I love that phase shift option you had on your guitar.

Let's all meditate and ask the Universe as I did this many years ago when Jim's Spiritual Portrait painted in London was missing from a friend's farmhouse attic in Scotland for 17 years. It turned up the same week as she suddenly remembered she had taken it to London to show a Jim lookalike at the London College of Art and left it in her room so I got it back the following week... It's great you have the serial numbers... Never say never ever! So let's ALL ask the Universe to bring this special guitar back. I am crippled with arthritis but got a new guitar to be tuned up as I cant even remember how to tune it and will plonk away with your chords teaching best I can for some of The Doors stuff. Bon Chance! Now everyone get looking all the shops and all the guitar players even amateurs like myself. Can't believe this guitar went missing but life is strange. Stay safe as is possible. I read in a book The Doors were headed for The Moonscape at London Science Museum where I had my publicity pictures taken in 1984/ 1986 then decided the music field wasn't for me. I presume there's adverts or flyers online about this as this is what makes it easier to reach the masses. BEST OF LUCK!

I just watched the Doors’ R&R HOF induction performance of Light My Fire’ on UA-cam. What a stirring guitar solo you played. You seemed to attain some kind of musical transcendence. It was so enjoyable to watch and hear. I’ve never heard anything better. Congratulations on all your success, Robbie Krleger!

Please pass my deep respect and sympathies to Mr. Krieger on the loss of his guitar. He and that guitar (with the rest of The Doors) ARE the late 60's to me. I sincerely hope he has his dream fulfilled and someone steps up and does the right thing.

I had a so called friend I knew for 15 years steal 3 guitars and 2 pedals and 2 amps. Gear most would not be much into because of dialing issues. But yeah it is a wound. One pedal was a gift from my father just before he died. I hope Robby gets help for this. This kind of wound is spiritually painful.
Sounds pretty low, needed drug money, perhaps.

Man it would be so cool if someone found it and returned it to you! I'll definitely remember that S/N whenever I'm looking at an old SG! No one should ever steal a guitar, that's cold.
Its definitely a possibility, to find a guitar I remember a few years back , think it was in London, someone bought a flying v guitar that had been hand painted pretty badly, the guy decided to restore it because he got it quite cheap, on removing the layer of paint he found it had been painted before with a psychedelic montage , he took it to an expert who checked it out for him , he said congratulations you have bought a lost jimi hendrix guitar by accident, it was auctioned for 250.000 pounds ...
If you find it, please do a follow up video. That would be amazing!
I took my friends 1963 or 64.Gibson SG special to a RKO show years ago for Robbie to autograph. I am thinking Robbie signed his own guitar and handed it to me. We just checked the serial # drum roll please, Not a match. Although It is still a Doors fans treasure knowing he had the guitar in his hands

I go to a lot of garage and estate sales around Ventura county, Santa Barbara and occasionally down to LA so I'll be on the lookout for it! Finding this would be my personal equivalent of finding the Holy Grail!

I've noticed....in certain footage of the Doors (some, not all)....Ray would look sick of his life and mildly annoyed where Jim was concerned. Then, after Jim's death....Ray seemed to stick a pair of Rose tinted glasses on where Jim was concerned...and he never took them off.😂

Dear Robbie, first I want to say thank you for the music you and the other 3 Doors created that have got me and many others through tough times. I hope you find the guitar you're remembering in the video but PLEASE be careful there's a lot of sad morons who might try to con you. I think it's not impossible to find it.
In fact, the story and adventure of how you and others (?) found the guitar would make a fantastic documentary for UA-cam or a proper film. Looking back on how you used it in the 60s and of what roadhouse blues you went through to find it again?

About the SG special ... it could have been bought and destroyed by Pete Townshend . Back in the 60's and 70's he destroyed a staggering number of SG 's special on stage for the sake of Rock and Roll ...
