Walter Egan is a studio musician during a recording session with Fleetwood Mac met Stevie Nicks and instantly fell head over heels in love the love for her inspired him to write that song a top ten hit that sold over a million copies.
I am 63 years old This song will be forever be linked to my first in everything he would dedicate this song to me before we actually started dating And we ended up getting married And I karaoke this all the time along with Toto hold the line
Guys, this is a Walter Egan song, not a Stevie Nicks song. She just sang backup vocals. It's not "all about Stevie Nicks"--he was just lucky enough to get her to work on his song, back in the day.
Back to Annie McLoone! Stevie was the tease, but Annie was THE answer! Thank you Annie, so wonderful and looking so wonderful in your video footage (elsewhere), you got noticed!
I had no idea Ms Nicks did back-up on this song. After watching this clip,it is hard to believe that Little Ms Stevie is 70 years young today! I watch Fleetwood Quack's 1997 "Dance tour" vid and at 50y.o. back then she was smokin' and today she is still one damn good lookin' woman.
Aww, great song by Walter Egan. I remember Stevie Nicks said once in a video that her father told her she would never get married because she loved “doing her music more”. So I guess she really is “a woman lost in her song” as the song Magnet and Steel mentions in that sense as well. I guess we’ve all been through those kind of crushes which inmortalizes this song to this day. ❤🌟🎼🎸
No doubt ; Stevie Nicks is the : ALL TIME BABE !!! She so beautiful and been crushing on her all my life. She’s something else. She today is more beautiful then ever. Let it be known , Dale Bozzio , Taylor Dane , my crushes forever going way back. I’m a old head lol. That’s when we had great music. Today’s is garbage.
I was always rooting for Walter on his quest to win Stevie's heart. He never seemed happier than when she was in his presence. I guess some things aren't meant to be.

I remember listening to the radio closely as in the mid song, they build up the harmony layers in the background--which by then was the foreground! Neil Diamond did the same in Cherry Cherry.
Lindsey buckingham played on this album and produced it back in the day stevie nicks and lindsey were living together for 5ys and they new walter egan and he had big crush on stevie he wrote this song about her but lindsey and stevie did not know until years later weirdest I ever heard.
He hasn't survived... this is the last song that I have ever heard of him and she made the song with her vocal singing with him to the melody of the song.
This is the BEST Stevie fan video I have ever watched. You have so many pics I've never seen--and I've seen hundreds. Love this song! Glad to hear the story that goes with this. (btw the lyrics are "I can't hope to hold you for long," not "can." I figure it's a typo and you may want to change it).

Loved this song now 62 and can’t stop thinking about how quickly we are descending from what once was .

I've always loved this song and now even more so knowing it was written about Stevie.
How can you not fall in love with this beautiful song
Or beautiful Stevie as he would have said!
Walter Egan is a studio musician during a recording session with Fleetwood Mac met Stevie Nicks and instantly fell head over heels in love the love for her inspired him to write that song a top ten hit that sold over a million copies.
He was infatuated with Stevie Nicks. He loved his wife, not her . Any man would get turned on as she is s flirt .
Nice to see Annie McLooon getting credit for her excelent backing vocals
Guitar player rocks on this

That is so awesome! He not only wrote it about a real person, it was Stevie Nick's! Then he recorded it with her! Awesome!
Yeah maybe, but Lindsey was physically there!
Stevie & Lindsey was there to help him. She did vocal on another song. Walter fell for her and it came at a time Stevie & Lindsey were falling apart.
I could look at pictures of Stevie all day.
Kurelek's Revenge me too. She’s a queen.
Me two , me three , me four 😃😃
Still beautiful in 2022
Guys, this is a Walter Egan song, not a Stevie Nicks song. She just sang backup vocals. It's not "all about Stevie Nicks"--he was just lucky enough to get her to work on his song, back in the day.
Doug Robinson
So did Lyndsey Buckingham, and they produced the record.
OK thanks, but what is your point?
In love?
He did have a crush on her.
That's Annie Mcloone singing backup
Walter Egan and Stevie Nicks were adorable together. Darn, what could have been.
Stevie’s beauty was sure captured in these pictures. Beautiful song as well.
Magnet& Steel i like it.
Summer of 78,Laurel md swimming pool, still with my magnet,47 years later,my heart n soul, love you Robin O'Dell
I was 14 couple skated to this song and fell in love when this song came out! Awesome!
Amazing how some songs just persevere through the years. Until today I never knew the song was about Stevie Nicks and that she sung the backup vocals!
I'm shocked too this is awesome

One of my all time favorite songs, like the words, the background singing, and everything, still love it after all these years !

Well i loved Stevie and this song...still do.
Gosh that woman is stunning.
This had to be in the mid 70s. I'm pretty sure I was at least 16 with a driver's license. Great memories to be sure.
The father of my second son Ravin, sang this song to me. His name was Lucky. 1978.
Great and beautiful
This is STUNNING, and SHE is stunning!!!!!
This was my song in high school

I’ve always loved this song. Had no idea Nicks and Buckingham were singing backup.
Another mind blowing live cut of my favorite Buckingham class
Great song. I had no idea this song was about Stevie and of the fact Stevie & Lindsey provided backgrounds to this song. Thank you.
I thought Annie did background. I sang this with her fun

walter egan is a substitute teacher at my school now
I want to go to your school
That’s hilarious for some reason! This 50 year old still loves this song!
You have a cool teacher who has seen it all. So do your homework! LOL.
It is a common name.
@@josephreinhart8712 he is a substitute teacher.
Stevie nicks my first love
Never heard of him nor the song bere on australia . Very nice song though . Stevie compliments his voice on backing . Sydney Australia 🦘🦘🦘 15/4/2024😊
What guy wouldn’t fall in Love with her ❤
I was always rooting for Walter on his quest to win Stevie's heart. He never seemed happier than when she was in his presence. I guess some things aren't meant to be.
Annie Mcloon was also part of the backup vocal line.
Whatever happened to Annie?
Never heard this! It’s awesome ! He loved her, didn’t every man?
Great song by the way
*Brought me back, thanks...* 🥰
Magnet and Steel
Walter Egan
Now I told you so you ought to know
(Oh) it takes some time for a feelin' to grow
(Oh) but you're so close now I can't let you go
(Oh) and I can't let go
With you I'm not shy, to show the way I feel
With you I might try, my secrets to reveal
For you are a magnet and I am steel
I can hope that I'll hold you for long
(Oh) you're a woman who's lost to your song
(Oh) but the love that I feel is so strong
(Oh) and it can't be wrong
With you I'm not shy, to show the way I feel
With you I might try, my secrets to reveal
For you are a magnet and I am steel
With you I'm not shy, to show the way I feel
With you I might try, my secrets to reveal
For you are a magnet and I am steel
For you are a magnet and I am steel
For you are a magnet and I am steel

Outstanding video and excellent research.
Pretty song Pretty girl
Walton Egan was one man she could not get . He is a faithful and loyal man .
What? He had a crush on HER.
@@sl4983 Egan never *entered* her. Understand? *Many* took a drive in her. Not dis dude.
@@MrPocketfullOfSteel ?? HE had a crush on HER. She was not going after HIM. Wth are you talking about
@@sl4983 *I KNOW.*
@@MrPocketfullOfSteel So if he didn't, it's because SHE didn't let him. "Understand"?
A shoutout to the shoutouts mentioning Annie McLoone on background vocals. She was the beauty singing background in the video.
I saw a video of this song and Stevie is not a backup singer, but I'm guessing this song is about her...
nice! thanks for the intro info.
I remember listening to the radio closely as in the mid song, they build up the harmony layers in the background--which by then was the foreground! Neil Diamond did the same in Cherry Cherry.
I believe you can hear Stevie on the lead backround track during guitar solo on studio production
Whatever it's a great song regardless of what people try and make an issue out of it I mean who really cares they are playing this song and it's great
Had no idea... cool Dean!
Cool video Dean L
I met her in 1981 with Fleetwood Mac and she was stoned. Christine was very nice
Who wasn't back then?
Walter always says "I wrote the song to help her out"
🎶🍃🕯
Was that Keith Green?
Lindsey buckingham played on this album and produced it back in the day stevie nicks and lindsey were living together for 5ys and they new walter egan and he had big crush on stevie he wrote this song about her but lindsey and stevie did not know until years later weirdest I ever heard.
All fantastic muscians is this the original lineup?❤

Deuce Bigelow brought me here years ago.
He hasn't survived... this is the last song that I have ever heard of him and she made the song with her vocal singing with him to the melody of the song.

missed the typo! thanks for the note. And thanks for the compliment on my video production - please check out some of my others ;)
(Lots of Stevie)
Had no idea the history of this song.
Brock Landers & Chest Rockwell brought me here.
Yes lol!
Oh stevie 😍you are so gorgeous 😍💕💖
I think EVERYONE did a duet with Stevie. Don Henley, Tom Petty, Kenny Loggins, John Stewart, Walter Egan. Between that, Fleetwood Mac, and her solo work she was even more ubiquitous on the radio than Pnil Collins.
Are we sure Phil and Stevie never had a duet?
I know her and Robin Zander did a song "duet" together. Robin Zander from the band Cheao Trick.
With Mick Fleetwood on drums, and John Mcvie on bass...
can you blame him ??
Lindsey buckingham produce this and played guitar they don't say anything about him but stevie and lindsey were living together at time.
