the DC was capable of more... sadly many games came out that were just slightly improved (better framerate, higher res) versions of N64 and PS1 releases. we also got a slew of homebrew games that would have done just fine on those systems as well. but apart from the lack of DVD support, it could do games as well as the PS2 (a console that took a couple of years to get started as developers got used to it). that said, THPS is a great series on any platform...

The PS1 is probably the 2nd best console ever made because it made 3D games popular. It was amazing to be able to play games like Tecken 3, MVC, and Metal Gear Solid all the way back in the mid 90's. The Dreamcast is probably the 3rd best console ever made because it was the first to set the standard on the way games would be played in the future to come. Many people found it hard to believe that the graphics in games could get any better, and they were probably right as buttery smooth games like Soul Calibur, Jet Set Radio and MVC 2 still compete with games in terms of graphics decades later. The leap from 32 bits to 128 bits in 1080p at 60fps, multi player online network, internet browsing, mouse keyboard, Virtual Memory Unit and VGA support was out of this world in 1999. It was way ahead of it's time and did it well. Probably it's downfall for being too ahead and ambitious. The best console ever was probably the NES, because it pretty much did everything right and set the correct template for all future consoles to follow.
The controls were pretty gross on PS1 compared to Dreamcast. Although it is easier to do manuals. But aside from that, Dreamcast remains my childhood and the best version of the game.
dreamcast and gamecube had about the same capabilities, it just came out a little too early. if it had waited till the release of ps2 and xbox it would have lasted a lot longer
The dreamcast was vastly inferior to the gamecube graphically. The Dreamcast wasnt even as powerful as the ps2 and the gamecube is more powerful than the ps2
You're thinking 5:4, which the Dreamcast was capable of outputting, as well as a bunch of other resolutions and ratios depending on the cable you use. 2:1 (or 18:9) is "Perfect Widescreen", or a rectangle made of two squares
The Dreamcast could handle this at 60 fps and with much much higher polygon counts than this. It was like 6/6.5 times more powerful than the PSX and at least 5 than Saturn and 3 than N64. If you look at Crazy Taxi, Dead or Alive 2 and Sonic Adventure 2, all push 2.5 to 3 million of polys at 60 fps with hi-res textures and far better graphics than this. And this port only runs at 30 fps and has about the same complexity as the PSX/N64 versions. Which is a shame because the Dreamcast had 16 MB of RAM vs 2 and 4 MB of RAM respectively.
This version actually features quite a bit of improvements. The characters are higher poly, 2D sprites in the environment have been converted to 3D models, the lighting has been improved, and the shirts of the characters even have WIND PHYSICS, unlike the PS1/N64 versions. Though yeah, I agree it's kind of a shame this isn't running at 60 FPS.

Fun fact: Originally, the PS1 was designed to have all 4 ports be switchable controller/memory card ports. The problem was something like they couldn't work out how to reliably automatically detect if controllers/cards were inserted (or something similar), so they bodged it so make 2 of the ports controller only and 2 memory card only. The ports are actually wired identically and send/receive data in the same way.

The video doesn't show off the differences very well, since the screens are way too small. The Dreamcast version has higher poly models, 2D sprites were converted to 3D models, and lighting/textures were also significantly improved.

As you can see here, you had to memorize the map on PS1 and N64 because you could barely see across the school yard.
Probably because it was an entire generation ahead? How did it do against playstation 2?
@@RaZeRbLaDeZ not sure what the PS2 has to do with a video comparing the Dreamcast and PS1.
@@maximusaralieous1728 You said it was better than ps1 in comparison in a way that makes it seem like they're from the same era. Its like apples and bowling balls. Is a computer from 2021 more powerful than one from 1991? Basically? No shit, captain obvious.
@@RaZeRbLaDeZ what's the matter? Didn't have a Dreamcast and had to suffer that shitty PS1 version 😂😂
They were out at the same time and I had no idea how terrible it looked on PS1 until I saw this video. Of course we know its going to look better on Dreamcast, it's 3x more powerful than the garbage PS1, it's still interesting to see the exact differences. That's why these types of videos are popular.
Your assertion of the PS2 or computers 20 years apart has no relevance with a video that was made to specifically compare the PS1 and Dreamcast versions of this game. That should be... Obvious 😏
@@maximusaralieous1728 Sure I guess...until I got 3 on Ps2. Was tony hawk 3 on dreamcast? Oh wait.
play 1 menos brilho
i dont believe ps1 still rock compare to newer 128 bit console
PS1. 😎😎
You should do UFC and they look like two differnt games entirely....
There was UFC on the PS1?

Ah, just play the Xbox version. It runs at 60fps.
Графика круче на дримке

Dreamcast, hizo lo que sony no pudo.
Que hizo?
dc = 1999 and ps1 is 1994 so it explains everything
No, exactly in 1998.
Dreamcast graphics is night and day compare to Playstation.
Dreamcast muito melhor !!
Playstation one does more stuff to call it intresting.
Wow Dreamcast shits on PS1 lol
es mejor en el drincas
Offcourse the Dreamcast version was better... the Dreamcast was competing with the Ps2 ( and xbox and Gamecube ) not ps1 ( and n64 ) lol....
Yes, but dreamcast started in the half life on playstation but died faster.
