    Should see if you could get an engineering company to make flanged steel inserts or slimserts for your torque blocks. They use slimserts loctited into soft material (Ally, Mag) hydraulic blocks in the aerospace industry especially when bolts are removed & refitted quite regular. Stops cross threading of soft metal threads or scoring of seating faces. Proably wouldn't have to use lubricant / grease under washers when preloading blocks if flanged slimserts are made of high grade steel or stainless. If slimserts are severally damaged, can be removed & replaced without needing to replace an expensive torque block.
    Certainly worth considering for future, every little improvement helps. Great video as always Ricky 👍

    But I wonder if with the current prices being lower than ever due to the current market, tax, insurance and people's finances for a 'weekend car' if that's actually the case now. 🤔
    If its a 30k car, perhaps that's opening it up to a home mechanic a bit more than a 40 or 50k one would. If so and it needs a set of brakes or dampers, is it really such a bad buy?
    A 30k car today isn't the same as a 30k car a couple of years ago.

      I think the drive in thread is totally of the wrong design. Rather than what looks as a standard metric coarse thread design, it needs to be of a trapezoidal form which would transmit more torque for less effort in pushing the liners in. And using a bearing at the end plate would make it even better. They don't use Acme or metric trapezoidal threads on lathes and other driving machines for nothing lol

    • @ohboy2118

      Ricky, perhaps brass would "Give" under the high torque figures you use ?
      The other issue is the holes in the blocks will start to swage in ,over time . Love your stuff mate, I have been in Motorsport for 40+ years, and still am learning. Cheers. Neil.@@REPerformanceUK

    Am I making it up or do the liners sometimes get frozen in liquid nitrogen and the block heated to make them fit? Is that a different process?

    • @REPerformanceUK
      @REPerformanceUK  6 місяців тому +1

      Yeah that is a dry liner process mate where you fit a steel liner inside a complete bore.
      These are wet liner inserts with o rings to stop coolant transfer

    Question - I've heard you say a few times about NOT buying a £30k R8........Question is 'Would you not inspect an R8 for a customer who is potentially looking at a car at entry level for them?'
    I'm currently in an Evo 6 but need would be looking at a £35k budget for an R8 when the Evo has gone......Is this still going to get me a shitter?

    I can't believe I asked a liner question on the last video and then get presented with this on the next vid...... I expected them to be so much more of an interference fit and need freezing to fit

      Ditto, the liners are obviously tight, but what is the main force keeping them solid, surely it cannot be the sealing rings ? 😟
