Awesome tune. Great voice. Sweet sorrow! And the story arc keep climbing! Keep it coming!!
Hey JP! Just watched this and it was like listening to my uncle Gates tell the tale... He spent countless nights with Tom at the Maple Leaf in Timmins and at Tom's property on the pond near Georgetown. Drinking, talking, crying, writing songs. He calls those "the good old days". Tom did burn through a lot of cigarettes, and a lot of people, over the course of his career. His inner demons probably kept him up at night and the booze numbed his pain. I thank you for telling this heartfelt story, which validates a lot of what my uncle has told us over the years. The stuff of legends! They had a falling out, which happened, ironically, during one of those many multi-night drinking binges, that was meant to be devoted to songwriting, where Tom refused to go to bed, even when everyone else was exhausted. Then came the namecalling, the accusations, the blaming, the shaming... In the end, it was all too much. But not my story to tell. Thanks for telling yours! Marc
Good morning,
I just watched your complete Episode 28 and was very touched by your courage to tell this story.
I am the nephew of Gates. You helped me understand so much about my uncle and the friend he was to Tom!
Thank you for having the courage to describe with emotion , respect and honesty. This will help countless people with their personal healing process!
Daniel
Listening to melody in the ending song I immediately was reminded of another song. Then it came to me. I think its called "all hell for a basement " by big sugar. Somebody copy someone here.
Holy shit JP! Such a great song, just fantsatic👍
I'd read both of S-Tom's autobiographies several years ago. Now it is so interesting to see your knowledge of him which compliments that, and more.
You are something else JP! You got me all emotional listening to this.
This is a very touching, heartfelt account of your moments with Stompin Tom. Thanks for sharing!
I just love the song at the end of this one. I'm guessing that its a J.P. Cormier original. Terrific in every way! Thank you!
Following your weekly “Life in Music” series. I find it fascinating. Look forward to Mondays to listen to your story.
Thanks for the memories of your "dad" J.P. Was introduced to House of Plywood one night when you were sitting at our table in our kitchen. Such a beautiful tribute!
Beautiful ballad, JP. It made me cry. You are a gentleman and that’s why we all love you.
Very touching story. Thank you for sharing. Love your music JP!
"so I start eat'in and pretty soon I'm looking over and he's eat' in ....and he likes it!" ... just the way you told that little anecdote struck me as pretty funny ha!
Great story! Really enjoy your thoughts.
Powerful stuff. Thanks JP
Loving this series, and song.
J.P., you just made me cry!!! You are a Master of music and emotion! We love ya even more!
LOVE this JP and you know I LOVE YOU TOO...Thanks for keeping him going bro. xoxo
What a fun time it is listening to the stories from behind the scenes, I've had my 15 minutes of fame in a local bar band for a couple of years, and so much of what musician's go through the audience never knows, these stories are like gold to us musician's, because they jog our own memories, thanks a bunch JP.😊👍
It is crazy eh...people dont even understand the role of sound check and a soundman...90% think people just plug in and play...and sou d great...
This series is absolutely great.....I’ve never looked so forward to Monday nights!!!!
Wow... Powerful stories from the heart...
Great song about ol' Tom! Thanks.

Great Storys
Loved this story . He sure was something , Rip Stompin Tom .
I find your life stories fantastic. I am also enrolled in your master music.
Hello Jack - I noticed your comment regarding the master music program. I was wondering how you found it? I'm a "open cord strummer" level of player, in your opinion, would you suggest signings up? Cheers 🍻
@@jamesm5547 I found it by watching J.P's show
@Jack Raymond - hi Jack, what I meant was what was your experience with JP's learning series?
Are you a beginner, intermediate or more advanced player? Did you find the series a good match for your skill level? (I'd say I am above a beginner to maybe a lower level intermediate player). Thanks so much for your input - cheers
this is a great story! i love spaghetti too, haha, hold the ketchup!
JP you should definitely consider putting Life in Music into a book 📖. Like a popular song that everyday people can relate to Life in Music touches on so much on the human experience of so many people’s lives. I know you have really touched my soul...
I bought an Eastman mandolin because you said they were great and they are.
Very interesting story . . . so Tom's disappointment with Hank Snow, isn't so valid, because he sounds just like him.
Btw, in the photo of Tom that's with his Wikipedia article, you can see JP in the background, on guitar - in 2002, apparently.
Heart !
To me stompin tom Connors is Canada's king of country music 🎵🎶
“Add a public comment...”
hmmmmmmmm
“Shadows..... they are the feelings left behind that trail our thoughts. “
J.P. ~~Thank you ! And for making me believe that things can always get better.
I don't remember at least half of my life
oh Molson Golden what ever Happened to them cant get it here in the states anymore? used to treat myself every friday back then with a 6 pack ,it was my favorite
After I lost my Rt. Leg in 2014 I went to N.S.REHAB in Halifax @ 2015 to get a Prosthetic Leg. While there I met another patient who was in a mobile { Electric } wheelchair. Large man, wore a Big Leather Cowboy Hat all the time. Told me HE had been T.Connors Road Manager , at one time. Tom was in the middle of a TOUR and had to let the Manager go so He phoned this Chap up and offered Him the JOB. He told me He lived down around Lunenburg & at one time played the smaller clubs @ Toronto. Cannot remember His name. Wondering if you knew Him J.P.? Cheers Brother.
KEEPING SINGING A SONG BROTHER. X
How the Hell did he live to 77? Good genes I guess.
What song is being played in the opening?
Its an untitled piece of music I wrote 20 years ago that I never used.
@@JPCormier beautiful piece. Ill be whistling it all week.
I wouldnt want to be hounded like Tom ,couldnt imagine never being ever to go anywhere without being recognised ,just not worth it to me ,you I think would be more respected and could sit down at a resturant without being hounded man it would drive me nuts ofcourse I would respect that person may say hi but that would be it,I have met many celebrties never ask for a autograph always respect thier privacy because they are just like you and me they just have a major talent ,but I did party with a metal band in Germany it was fun but because I treated them with respect
Well, after listening to you for 21 mins into the video I think Tom needed some good weed once in a while to reset himself, eat and sleep..
Nice!.....................................................
