I prefer the classic slower tempo, but definitely do appreciate a different take on this great song. Without some experimenting, we would never get rock versions, country versions, techno versions, elevator versions, string quartet versions, acapella versions of some great songs... I LOVE COVERS and all the varied things they bring to the table! Great job, Ms. Hudson!
I love love love this song! Jhud is killing this track. One of the few true artist in the industry who can sing any song and deliver. The best female vocalist in the business today hands down.
Actually each of the versions of this are greatly executed. For those who don't know Tamia's version is not the original version. The orinigal song was recorded by British singer Mica Paris - who gives it a jazzy/rnb feel. Tamia's version is the remake of the song - hers is an rnb/pop and a more commerial feel. Jennifer's version has an uptempo urban rnb feel to it. I must say, I love what she did to make it hers. There shouldn't be a debate because all of the renditions hit the mark. All Great.
And you know this. 100%! I just heard Jennifer's version, for the first time. I have to agree, that all three women, put their own unique touch on this. Mica brings tears to your eyes though. L.O.L.!
L.O.L.!! There should always be debate, as we don't all eat the same. All three did a great job, But several others felt the same, that Mica hit the spot.
Tamia is so sweet, cute and romantic. Mica is more soulful. And Jennifer is very RnB. These girls are all amazing and different on their rendition styles. You can pick your choice but to me they're all fantastic artists.
And I am impressed because usually, Jen is not at her best on Uptempos but this is really good. And she didn't try to do so much vocally. She stayed within her strengths and used her powerful belts to interpret rather than try to use a bunch of melismas for "color" because that's not HER sound or shouldn't be. That's what Jen should DO EVERYTIME. This also shows you can be a powerhouse AND do uptempo songs. It's all about restraint, control, and having musicianship.
I had to listen to this more than once, but I can appreciate the arrangement for what its worth. Love is a joyous thing, and I can hear that in J's voice and in the music. Also, I just found out this morning that though Tamia's version of this song is what we are most familiar with, Mica Paris did the song before her in 93. Not to start a war as to who's best, but each woman brought something different to the table respectively.
I love both versions, and if you don't like either one of them, let me tell you: Quincy Jones can do whatever the f*** he wants with his songs, or any song for that matter. He is a GENIUS and a living legend.
I am a huge fan of the Original but one of the things that I love about music is a song can be interpretated and re-interpretated so many different ways. With that in mind, not bad. Very Good actually. Fortissimos and cresendoing in the right places for interpretative purposes. I am actually feeling this because many times, contemporary remixes of songs from my generation lack sometimes. But this is very very good. Go Jen!!!!!
YES!!!! THIS iS wHAT i'VE been waitn 4 for almost a year. She sounds Freakin amazing I loving. I just hope no idiots compare it to tamia cus thats not the point. She I so amazing I cant wait for the album to drop cus I already got money put away for it lol.
This is just a great song. All 3 versions are good. If I had to rate I'd probably go; 1. Tamia 2. Mica 3. JHud but could change according to mood. All vocals superb.
I like Tamia's arrangement better. But J-Hud's voice is unbelievable! Whether people say she over sings or whatever, no body in the music business today can match her power and range.
I think Clive Davis knows exactly what he's doing after all these years of making and producing music. Not caring for his choices is just a matter of personal taste, but he's most certainly the man! #thatisall
Whoever said that Mica's was first was incorrect. Her's was done in 2008 while Tamia's was done in 1994. Either way, Quincy did his thing with this one, and I LOVE THIS ONE.
the unknown , incorrect. Mica’s was recorded and released nearly two years before Tamia recorded it. The song was included on Mica’s Whisper a Prayer album, released in June of 1993. Tamia’s version was included on Quincy’s Q’s Jook Joint, released in 1995.
Lots of haters I see lol. Jennifer did this song justice. Don't like it? Don't listen. No one forced you guys to lol. It's like haters go looking for music and what not of the people they claim they don't like just to say something negative. She made it her own, something Tamia failed to do since her version sounds just like the first lady who recorded it. Don't remember her name lol. But oh well.
THIS IS JUST MY OPINION! i love love love the ORIGINAL version.. these lyrics are so heartfelt that it shouldnt be taken away by such a "popish" sound.. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Jennifer Hudson but if the tempo was slower and she sang with that power i would love this song...
It Is One Of Those Songs That Any Remake Could Not Do Tamia's Version (Which Also Was A Remake) Justice. That Being Said I Like "JHud's Take On The Song And Her Voice Is Incredible
@sravenlyn Gotta file a minority report here. To me, British soul singer extraordinaire Mica Paris delivered the gold standard recording of this song. I like Tamia's sensual version but JHud's updated version does it for me. She's made it accessible for younger music listeners which is a good thing, this coming from an 40+ OG.
I like this rendition...I think the uptempo version suits her voice better...good idea! The ending is a little over powered when she belts out "heart" that is meant to be sweeter, but all else is Jennifer and fitting...nice
not a fan of jHud, she yells way too much for me! but i was excited to see she covered one of my fav tamia (which is also a REMAKE) and omg its bad! its not JUST her voice the production is horrible! and she is over singing this soft song way too much
@DAlmond123 Okay. I didn't notice until you just said it. I only responded to your post before I saw the vibe of the board. Thanks for telling me and correcting me. *smile*
@IAmUnique678 Actually he knows more about MARKETING music to certain demographics than the actually aspect of music. He is a genius in the first thing I noted but let's not go too overboard.
wow what a great song!! has that micha paris touch in the background, a Quincy vibe and amazing song from this talent. F*&K the haters!! This is class.
@ansonn2003 I just found that out@ I am reading people say Tamia's is the original and that's simply not true. I agree with this: I agree this one moves away from the original arrangement and I like that as we And considering this is not even her strong point(singing uptempos) usually, I am surprised I like this version.
Jennifer, I am sorry but this is the one song that Tamia OVERKILLED. I ean, she did better than the originator, Mica Paris, and this is the first time of all time I have heard someone else do better than the original and that's crazy. But you still snapped on this joint though. I will bump this on my sounds anyday!!
I've never even heard this song before. It's pretty long LOL! But as always...her voice is so special and real! Not many real singers these day's so J-hud is special!
You can't take her vocals away on this track cause she does her thing but the production couldve been simplier or even used the original track, and then it wouldve been magic.....Quincy Jones this is the only decision musically that I don't agree with....But Love Jennifer no matter what!!!!!!!!!!!
Fantastic vocals and a completely classic song. Sadly, despite Jennifer's awesome performance they should have left this one alone. The production doesn't compliment the track at all. Hopefully there will be a slow jam on the remix, or this version is some kind of remix.
@DAlmond123 I agree, but even if they do, it's their right to do so. Trust me, this is nothing compared to Bey videos especially when she covers any artist. In fact, sometimes knowing a poster's already existing viewpoint, it's best to ignore them because you already know where they are coming from and your butting heads not accomplishing a true discussion. #justsaying
I don't mind Jennifer Hudson and there is no denying she has a beautiful voice but I'll always be bias to the original by Tamia. It's one of my favourite songs.
@JustinTanksley Thaaaank Ya..exactly that music is wackity tack..my heart didnt move an inch..granted it skips beats with those amazing vocals but the lyrics and the beat just ....NOOOOOOOOOOO
@pegasus2001c Whitney is history. Chimier may you be stuck in twilight zone forever, whereas other artists will continue making good music. There's no way for Whitney to get her voice back, she can't even get it to be in acceptable level to the ears.
if this was the 1st version, it would be good, but bc the took such a classic song wit beautiful melodies n made it into a up tempo song, it wasnt as good as the 1st. jen sung nicely, but tamia voice fit the song better. this is tamia song n she killed it. jen, did her thing, upits better then than now
Hmmm this version of you put a move...is similar to the as we lay argument between s. Murdock vs k. Price except j hud's version is just like the Dana Harris version of as we lay...it will date itself
But we all know she can do a slow jam to this song just like Tamia and still kill it. I actually appreciate what she did to the song, catchy relevant and a jam👏🏻
Jennifer Hudson is just amazing, redoing this classic as it was her. Why I just discover now in 2022? 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Wow that voice!! No one can touch her voice.
Hudson!
Even though this is uptempo, I'll still rock with it. Simply because it's Jen Hudson!! 🔥🔥 🎤✌🏾
Tamia version all the way!
2024 here and I'm just now realizing that. Where th was I? Lol
😂😂😂 I agree
Couldn't agree more. 'Mica Paris' is still one of the best 90's R&B albums.
I love love love this song! Jhud is killing this track. One of the few true artist in the industry who can sing any song and deliver. The best female vocalist in the business today hands down.
I could see myself dancing to this! Good rendition J Hud

Tamia is so sweet, cute and romantic. Mica is more soulful. And Jennifer is very RnB. These girls are all amazing and different on their rendition styles. You can pick your choice but to me they're all fantastic artists.
Emelio Salazar agree.
I love this song ❤
This is NICE!!! And I usually hate when people make a slow song fast, but this is Fyre!!!
What a wonderfull voice & sound; my father send me this CD, i hope he always hear good music in heaven like this.
Very nice fresh rendition to a beautiful classic.
And I am impressed because usually, Jen is not at her best on Uptempos but this is really good. And she didn't try to do so much vocally. I agree 100%
I am really feeling this...well done Ms. Hudson!!!
Love the sassy R and B of Jennifer's voice but the tempo is a little fast for me. I still prefer Tamia's version.
Jennifer is an angel!
I had to listen to this more than once, but I can appreciate the arrangement for what its worth. Love is a joyous thing, and I can hear that in J's voice and in the music. I love love love Jhud verson, voice, and her vocals. This young lady is the most versatlie female artist in the business.
I just bought this....thanks for the link!!
I love both versions, and if you don't like either one of them, let me tell you:
Quincy Jones can do whatever the f*** he wants with his songs, or any song for that matter. He is a GENIUS and a living legend.
Oh my gosh I love this one too, Jennifer you are my fav!
I first heard this song when listening to "Q's Jook Joint" sung by Tamia. Miss Hudson does an awesome job with this song!
Love this song!
I am a huge fan of the Original but one of the things that I love about music is a song can be interpretated and re-interpretated so many different ways. With that in mind, not bad. Mica Paris version on Whisper a Prayer the version and album is beyond...it will change your life.
I like Tamia's arrangement better. But J-Hud's voice is unbelievable! Whether people say she over sings or whatever, no body in the music business today can match her power and range.
Ohhhhhh I love this version and I can sing it
For THIS song, Mica's sultry, soulful sound works for me.
Wow that voice!!
I really love what Quincy, the other producers and JHUD have done with this song. Jennifer is loaded talented!!! Great driving music.
I think Clive Davis knows exactly what he's doing after all these years of making and producing music. Not caring for his choices is just a matter of personal taste, but he's most certainly the man! #thatisall

AMAZING VOCAL MI AMOR!
Both Tamia's and Jennifer's versions I like.
Mica paris is the original singer in 1993 from the whisper a prayer album check it people
Both Tamia's and Jennifer's versions I like.
Richard Ellis Yeah, but Tamia's version is the one you want when you're getting close to your lady
@@bbigrocker1 I can vouch for that.^ Works every time.
@@joelkeeleymusic YES SIR!!!!
@@bbigrocker1 Let me repeat that: EVERY.TIME.

I love me some Jennifer but Tamil does it for me but has anyone heard Mica Paris' original version?
How you be?
I like JHud but I perceive when she covers a song she always change all the intention on it. Tamia's version is perfection!
not a fan of jHud, she yells way too much for me! but i was excited to see she covered one of my fav tamia (which is also a REMAKE) and omg its bad! its not JUST her voice the production is horrible! and she is over singing this soft song way too much
5:00 and now silence in the night.
mica's version is cool but Tamia's is the truth!!!!!
I really like this faster version better but i love jennifer hudson any way so it doesn't matter matter what son it is
@DAlmond123
Okay. I didn't notice until you just said it. I only responded to your post before I saw the vibe of the board. Thanks for telling me and correcting me. *smile*
Tamia! This version is too fast.
this is a really nice version. wirklich toll gesungen. war sie nicht auch mal in einer talentshow ?? So it happens
@1986Nikz Actually, it was originally performed by Mica Parris. I think Mica may have written it too.
@Slimavatar: Jen's high belt note is a G (an octave and a half about middle C)... Some would call it a G4.
@IAmUnique678
Actually he knows more about MARKETING music to certain demographics than the actually aspect of music. He is a genius in the first thing I noted but let's not go too overboard.
aye love making music fo sho ...
Jennifer is a powerful singer, but the musical arrangement is not so good for the songs ! In this version important things were lost.
The artist is great, but the is beat 🤔
Can you point out the important things?
wow what a great song!! has that micha paris touch in the background, a Quincy vibe and amazing song from this talent. F*&K the haters!! This is class.
@MrStyle23 EXACTLY lol it's not even about comparing her to Tamia..it's about the feel of the song..the music is awwwwwwwwful

Im glad jennifer knows this song and reintroduced it.. It's classic and hopefully this version leads more folks to tamia's version.
love the original and this version is up there with it!
Fantastic vocals and a completely classic song. Sadly, despite Jennifer's awesome performance they should have left this one alone. The production doesn't compliment the track at all. Hopefully there will be a slow jam on the remix, or this version is some kind of remix.
I see Chimier one of Jennifer's biggest fans is back to commenting on every video of hers. Keep it up boo!!
I Hate Most Remakes Because Its So Hard Not To Compare To The Original. This Song Just Isnt Made For Her Voice.
