Glad he touched on the HP comparison. I literally just swapped out old Suzuki 140's for new Suzuki 175's (fly-by-wire) on my 26' Twin Vee a few days ago. Still in the 10-hr break-in phase, but I already notice the improvement in fuel consumption.
I have a Nizpro tune on my 4.2. Went from 250hp to 332hp and love it. With the Yamaha all the 4.2 are exactly the same engine. Yamaha just de-tunes them mainly done with the fly by wire throttle. That means what your really doing is going from a 300 to 332hp engine which is really ownly 10% which is bugger all. All nizpro do is clean up the very rich map that Yamaha puts into it. So all those who stress about tuning engines and over stressing them. Your not. You just getting the power Yamaha has taken out of the motor. Watch the Nizpro Dyno vid on fullboost. Those guys are not back yarders.
Good stuff, thanks. I'm considering going from twins Yamaha 150hp to just one 250 or 300 hp on a 2000 Robalo Walkaround 2440 model. boat dry weight it's like 5200. I'm not sure, any advice? thanks
As someone who has modified many personal vehicles over the years to get more horsepower and performance, I would highly suggest NOT doing this on a boat where reliability is paramount. If this is a lake boat or inshore only boat then I suppose no harm no foul. BUT, if you are planning on running offshore and absolutely MUST be able to make it back, I would not mess around with your ECU/ECM. Whenever you start "tuning" these things, there is always a very real chance that reliability diminishes.
I was under the impression that compression and head design were part of HP increase but looking at some manufacturer specs compression is constant across HPs in same block. Now I know😁
Absolutely. I think nismo works with yamaha and that may not void warranty but will need to be approved by dealership. I think how it works is you would loose your yamaha dealer warranty but nispro would pick you up on their warranty. Something like that. Not much information out there about it but thats what i have found
Im sorry but this explanation made it Moore complicated … It Moore in to bsfc on an engine and how much torque it have. Not hp. And when it come to map an engine u hafe to map it exactly fore that boat.

great topic , but are the new map on engine is safe for longevity? and is there any disadvantage?

100% agree. .

Disagree. Only if you tuned it wrong and that would show it's face real early
Impacts to manufacturers warranty?
