- In this video I show you how to clean an exhaust on a Yamaha PW50. What a huge difference. These bikes are known to be super rich even when running right. So the exhaust gets really dirty really fast. This easy maintenance will be important to keep your little PW50 running crisp for your kid.

Good work!
Thanks!
Good job!
💪🏼
I saw on another video there is a restrictor in the exhaust where joins the engine. Was a fair size washer but was very restricted. If kids aren't just learning can take it out.
Nice!
Thanks!
Bike will be sweet!
Oh yeah
Can I ask what you did to fix the issue with the PW50 not revving out completely? Did a top end rebuild fix that? I have the same issue with my son's '01PW50. It ran great for my 2 older boys then lost power at WOT all of a sudden....just never hits the powerband like it used to. Trying to get it back in order for my 5yr old son now. I tried the following so far-- cleaned carb, clean petcock, replaced exhaust header and silencer, new spark plug, blocked off oil pump.
Yes it did. If that doesn’t fix yours let me know. I’ll try to help you. Cause it could be fueling too
Try the screw behind your throttle. Open it up all the way. Or just remove it. Could be loose and dialed back on its own
That’s true could be something that simple. Can also check where the header bolts to the motor. That gets clogged up and you can’t also remove the plate in there which will open it up.
I rebuilt the top end, and it definitely improved overall power. I also dropped down to a 65 main jet. I’d say it’s running at about 90% compared to when we got it 7 years ago which is good enough for now. It has good throttle response on the stand but seems to still hesitate slightly before hitting the powerband when my son rides it. I’m thinking about replacing the reeds and clutch springs to see if that helps.
Awesome! I am actually doing reeds and fuel mix delete this spring too!
Try a can of cheap oven cleaner, an old toothbrush and lots of hot water. Spray it down, let it sit for 5 min, scrub it with the toothbrush and rinse it off. Spray, scrub, rinse, repeat. Just be careful of the fumes.
Oh yeah! I remember seeing that on the one Moto channel I watch. Thanks for the reminder!
Did you pull the governor screw out?
You mean the throttle stop?
Throttle cable might be the issue with full rev.
Burn it out with a torch is the right way to do it, you will get every kind og dirt out, same goes for the front exhaust.
him: says they run through anything
me: what about my pw50 and getting it wet it just stops
Lol 😂
Check the boot that goes over the top of the spark plug. Had a pw50 once and bought from a guy when it had been raining. Ran fine until hit a puddle then just kept stopping so he sold it to me cheap. Took me ages to find why but constantly through any puddle and would stop. Just a small amount of water was getting onto plug and I guess shorting it out.
It won't pull you around. To heavy. Even with a top end it won't do it unless it's a pro Flo or something.
I pulls my fat a $$ around now lol
