    You should try the new Avantone Planar BEATS EM ALL!!!!! I have owned very expensive Sennheiser, and Hifiman Ananda and the Avantone was much better!

    I enjoyed the review. Thanks. I purchased a pair of these from Studio Economik in Montreal after Glen's endorsement and they arrive next week. I run a Dangerous Dbox which I feel has great DA. I've spent a lot of time on Avocets and the sound difference is negligible - and NOT worth all the extra $ but I digress.. The fact that the mids are strong per your review is more important to me than sweating the bass so looking forward to trying them

    I have bought the Austrian audio hi-x55 approx. 2 years ago. They sound indeed very good for the money. However, unlike your impression, the durability of these headphones is not good at all. I owned 5 different headphones in the meantime and this is the first pair that gets broken in the first year. The black (very thin) plastic covers on both sides of the headphone are broken and cause the bow to slip out of the speakerpart. Yes, the hinge looks sturdy, but a chain is as strong as its weakest link, and that weakest link is those plastic covers. I own AKG (30 years) and Sennheiser (9 years) that have no damage after all these years. So, I consider this to be a design error.

    Hi man. Thank you. You're saying they sound too harsh some times ?
    I don't like the sound too harsh that fatigues the ears for me.
    Actually I was looking for open headphones but no headphones seem to have these details around for this price do you agree? i need for my mixes. Do you have anything to recommend?

    Veeery good comparison.... The mids aren't exactly flat. Huge pump at about 1,2k. Similar to the Ns10s.

    The way you describe those are pretty similar to how I feel about the V-Moda M-200's, if you haven't try those, give those a shot, you might be impressed if you like the honest sound signature of things. I think they're pretty comparable to ns10's or hs8's yamaha mid-rangey flat-ish cans.

    I find the sub bass to be quite nice and very fast with transients. Maybe it takes some time to burn them in? Soundtrack music subs like Hans Zimmer stuff and dubstep both are super well represented in these headphones. Full extension. Could be that I'm driving them harder

    I'm not an audio engineer I just listen to the music and movies and do some basic video editing. Are those for me? My current pair of cans are AKG K550 closed backs and they've been wonderful for the last 8 years or so. I want to upgrade and when I heard of AKGs offspring called Austrian audio I began to draw some parallels. What do you think how hi-x55 compare to K550? Thank you.

    • @adamsteelproducer
      @adamsteelproducer  2 роки тому +1

      These may not be for you as they’re very detailed on the high midrange, great for working editors to hear deficiencies but not so good for casual. Maybe look at the Hi-X15 which have the signature Austrian sound but with a more balanced overall tone

    Everyone talks about this for mixing.. But between the high quality metal build, and just all of the design elements in this, + the fact it's from AKG's old engineers and made by a less big company.. Ugh, I honestly want to get these for casual listening. Are they really that bad for casual listeners? Like. I'm running a pair of senny 280HD's right now. 100$ vs 300$ headphones, when people talk about "could be bassier" for these im like... man how bad can it be, lmao, look at them. I gotta take criticisms with a grain of salt since i'm sure they're an upgrade in sound, even in bass, regardless

    • @hafzke
      @hafzke 3 роки тому +1

      I own them both and I love them both. I prefer 'flat' cans for casual listening in general. The Hi-X55 are stunning. But I use them with a Shanling Player or a receiver. They don't sound good with my phone (although they reach a high volume). So they are not as easy to drive as advertised. But with the right player/ dac/ amp they are glorious... if you love neutral sounding headphones.

      @@hafzke Would my Scarlett 2i2 Audio interface I use with my microphone be sufficient for delivering a good sound w these or do I need a dedicated dac?

    • @hafzke
      @hafzke 3 роки тому +1

      @@maxwell_edison I never used the Scarlett but if it worked for the Sennheiser there is no reason it should not work with the Austrian Audio. And to be fair the Hi-X55 don't sound bad with my phone (with no eq and other mumbo jumbo), they just sound better with a dedicated player or amp (like my AKG K 712 Pro, which don't sound impressive on various phones but sound great on the Shanling or my receiver and before you ask: i prefer the Austrian Audio). I hope this helps.

    • @N12458
      @N12458 3 роки тому

      @@eitanshulman you can run them with smartphone, they are peaky but not sibilant that is they have a upper mid centric sound signature, they are bit more analytical sounding than enjoyable for me. They also have a very light bass shelf. They need amplification to sound best, but cant be tuned much with eq.

    • @N12458
      @N12458 3 роки тому

      @@eitanshulman They should be ideal for mixing and recording as they are super clear and detailed, you can hear lows mids and highs distinctly with no melding, ive seen many use them for that purpose. However they may not be best for enjoying music, much cheapher headphones can do that.

    I've just ordered the Audient ID14MKII. Is it capable of driving these 25ohm cans without any colouration or distorion issues?. I am currently upgrading all of my gear and a good decent set of closed backs is on my list. I believe the older 14 could only comforrtably handle 80ohmand up.

      Great to read an opinion 180º from his! If I find this to be the case, they're going back and thanks! If they're good, I'm coming back to this comment to call you out because you have such a strong opinion and flame you, 100%!! LMFAO!

    • @MoreMeRecording
      @MoreMeRecording 3 роки тому +2

      Well as promised, I'm coming back to express my findings after reading your opinion - which is 180º of both @Hop Pole Studios and Glen Frickers (who's opinion on "hi-fi" I can't say I'd find too valuable TBH). In a nutshell, you were SPOT ON! These headphones are complete, utter trash and to charge even $150 for these let alone the $400 CDN I paid ON SALE would be a rip off. Both Fricker and this guy are 100% Paid Actors. Shills for this product who obviously have received something for their endorsements... I gave the benefit of the doubt to (2) UA-camrs and thought I'd try them with the very few negative comments I read.These have absolutely no bass (yes, this guy did say there wasn't much bass) but much worse, there's a horrible peak in the upper mids to the point they actually created sibilance in the song I used to test them that isn't inherently there. I couldn't imagine trying to focus on guitars and vox with this crap.. I A/B'd them against my old but trusty BM5A MKI's (the good ones) and rotated using my Astro A40 **gaming headphones** and my gaming headphones represented way more what my monitors were giving me. None of this pinched, shrill garbage. Very close.
      Quite a disappointment TBH after the wait and thinking I was purchasing some solid studio kit but I also see they're made in (ugh) China and that wasn't clear from what I read. No surprise here then...People, beware these headphones. There's is nothing here you'd expect from traditional fine European designs...15 mins of use and they're already in the box..

    • @adamsteelproducer
      @adamsteelproducer  3 роки тому +5

      That’s a lot of text for “I don’t like it”. I gave my honest opinion. You can’t get along with something that’s got lots of high mids? Fine, but don’t try and tell me you’re actually getting good mixes on gaming headphones… 😂

  • @assshakerstudios549

    Great review. I dug how you described the "Use case" for these cans. "These might be good as your check system...."etc. That's exactly what I'm looking for when I jump on here to youtube and research gear! Even in Chicago...one of the biggest cities in the world....you can't find a store where they carry headphones and go in and try the headphones out on your phone/portable DAC or whatever. Nor can I find a place to take the Austrian Audio Oc818 and set it up on a Motu16a with an API 312 preamp and just record a drum kit with it, an acoustic guitar, a guitar amp, bass amp, djembe, conga's, etc. to see if it's THE MIC for me! They don't let you do shit like that anywhere! Not even in Guitar Center! So UA-cam is really the only place where you can check shit out! Besides that mic thing online that never works, whatever the fuck it's called. And again for someone who is poor, but needs/wants good gear even if it takes 20 years, you gotta choose wisely when purchasing said gear as you might not get the chance again for another 3yrs! Point being, I appreciate comments like that, because everyone else, including trusted peers, just say what everyone else is saying, which is not a hell of a lot! Especially when I have the choice in choosing over 1000 different headphones! Finding the exact ones for me can be a problem! If you get the chance I'd love to see your opinion on the new HI65 open backs. And see if they got that below 50hz! And if you had to choose in that price range(a headphone used for mixing/editing/mastering checking/in a bad room like say you bring your work home from the studio and it's not treated whatsoever, but you still have to get work done at home because wife's bitching about spending more time at home soo....but you've can't have can's that don't have the below 50hz info in them because that could fuck up your entire mix...IMO the low end is the most important part because if that's bad, the whole mix suffers!)would you choose the new open back HI65's over any other headphone in that price range, including say the Sennheiser 650's?
