Following up from my other video. I show you how to convert your old super 8 film over to digital using a phone or a normal camera. I have a contraption called Polstar box that you film into and it bounces off a mirror out another hole that you film. I also tried to film screen. I used one of those led light stands that youtubers use to light themselves. worked ok, but bit of glare and scratches. I recommend you just use a white piece of paper. You will have to go full MacGyver on this and experiment what works best.
The shutter speed was the hardest thing as there was constant flickering. I preferred using my camera and in shutter priority, but I show you how the phone can be used in auto or manual mode also called Pro Video mode on phones. The flickering that I was getting was only in certain parts and I believe it was because my projector is not very reliable when playing back.
Anyway. For the oldskool kids out there. this is just another side project that I like doing. Its been raining and one of those weeks I could not be bothered going out for a photo walk. Hope you enjoy and if you got any questions don't be a stranger leave a comment. I love talking about this stuff. Any technical questions let me know too

You're a legend - both for the technical help and also the dancing. Smooth!
haha. thanks. Elvis has left the building
You saved the best bit for last Roberto - what a mover! Very thorough guidance, but my goodness me, that looks to be the dictionary definition of convoluted. If it would keep those memories intact, it would surely be worth the effort.
Nice to see Jerry make a late appearance too.
I should put my outro at the start.. 😆 my rock and roll career never took off. Yes it is a bit much and these days its so cheap to get a pro to transfer it anyway.. Doh.. 🍌🍌
I didn't have any equipment. Only film on reel. And I actually photographed every frame of the film with a camera. I worked all day. And I managed to convert 3 minutes of film into video in 2 weeks, working like this every day.
Thats amazing. I was thinking of doing that also. Big effort. That would be the best quality by far. Nice one 👍
Your dog is why I watched this from start to finish. Woof. 😃
Haha. Yes Jerry is a very special girl.. i always try to put her in to make us smile. Not too loud she reads all the comments and will get a big head lol 😆
Great advice man. Thanks a million.
No worries. My pleasure. Good to preserve for future generations 😆
Interesting video Roberto, but as you said, I'm no MacGyver when it comes to digital "stuff", I did try to do it myself but it got very complicated, so I sent VHS tapes and super 8 movies to a professional lab, they transferred everything into 12 DVDs, they really did a great job, it cost me about $200 (USD), I made copies and gave them to relatives and friends. Be well and stay safe.
Wow that is awsome. I was wondering of cost and prices have come down a lot. 20 years ago it was much more expensive. A great thing you did. The family must be so happy. Nice one 👍
Project onto a gray background you may get better results also Thank-you so much for your ingenuity and inspiration.
That would make good sense. Yes grey backgroind. Great tip. Never thought of that Thanks 🙏
Would you be able to put a modern day LED bulb in place of the old bulb? Considering the kelvins and the lumens of course? Or would the LED one get too warm? (because I've seen bulbs with the same leg type, like mine has)
Im sure it would work. Maybe get lower watt and test it on start of the reel in case it burns the film. As for whitebalamce not sure but you could change in post
@@robdido Thanks for that advice, I'll see what I can do.
Elvis lives! 😎
Lol. I was the first to do the moonwalk 13:41
Why do you use empty audio tape reels for your films?
Are they audio reels?. Didn't know. The person that spliced all the 3min reels together must have done it that way. So to get one big reel of all the similar films together. They fit ok and no problem playing back
🤣👍
Cool 😎
Yes that is the better way. Getting rid of all reflections and matching best speed is the best way. In a controlled room with a good screen. Hard to find a good projector that is working like new.
