3.24 Live-PTU, I don't see this as a live patch at all yet. Only as a PTU extension. So not really playing for entirely fun, but to go about normal things and test them so I can report issues to help with bug reporting.
Cannot call a ship in my hangar, therefore no game. Hopefully the update to the update will fix that.....until i transgress some unknowable rule again trying to use the hangar's features.
I started playing again first time since 3.19. seems alright for me. I'll try cargo when it works, otherwise seems mostly the same but with a better map and HUD.
I can't say how bad it is, as I currently am not able to play. In another 16 hours I will be able to reset my character again and say what's still working in this game after the patch. So far my game experience has been waiting for cargo to appear for hauling missions (did not happen), resceing people who suddenly lost their ship as well as getting rescued by other people after I had suddenly lost my ship into thin air. That part was actually fun as I was completely invisible to a friend and he still managed to get me into his cargo bay by me giving directions in chat. A blindfolded rescue mission. Good stuff I wish I had recorded that! I was finally able to move around, but got stuck in the ship while trying to interact with stuff. We tried storing the ship in a hangar and that's where my adventure ended. An adventure it was!
I luckily haven't run into the hamgar lift issue or hangar door perma-locking as many other have, but I have had to seitch servers many times to find working elevators to get to my hangar (and they're often broken trying to leave). I did lose a few million credits buying 32 SCU boxes at an outpost, which will not come up the cargo lift and are just stuck down there. I started buying 16 SCU boxes as a workaround, and I've had a 50% success rate getting those to come up the elevators 4 at a time (sometimes it'll even let me do 6).
How bad is 3.24? It got me to stop playing, as after having my hanger break twice, and unable to call in any ships I just gave up till they fixed things. That's on top of the cargo missions not working, squad and enemy markers not appearing, even after the fix. Too many game breaking bugs for me. With the hotfix that released late last night, we had a person in our corp tell us the cargo missions worked again, so I may try it out later today to see how things go.
With how bad the 3.24 release actually was, it makes me wonder just how bad it was when they yanked it out of 3.23. Like, this has to be FAR BETTER than it was then, and it's this bad. Was it Evil Dead levels of bad?
they didnt fix the " no mission cargo on elevator" yet like the basic intro mission. Also they have limited ships from being kited to zero g for the bounties. They turn back and go to the ground after sometime.
I just want someone to tell me how I'm supposed to get armor items out of loot crates now. Can't even drag them out to be hand carried when i tried last. I need an adult... If i can't loot goblin, I'm out 😂
I've been playing very heavily over the last couple days and my impression is largely that things work well enough that I find myself getting really disappointed when the jank happens. Which is huge compared to 3.18. Logged in. Played with my hanger. Put a Pisces and a Ursa in my Carrack. Put some vehicles around the hanger to get around in, and they are still there. Spent a few hours with this until encountered a server crash loop and basically had to stop playing for the night. Spent a very large majority of Saturday running cargo. Mostly working fine. I had a cargo box go nuts and kill me. Came back to the station and my ship was still there, but my body was gone. My multi-tool was laying on the floor though. I made the mistake of going "Oh hey. I heard you could pre-sell your cargo" and went to the trade center thing and pre-sold my cargo. Then as I was moving my cargo over the server crashed and when it came back online the box I had laying on the hanger floor was gone. (Stuff in the elevator was still there, and the stuff on the ship was still there). Didn't think much of it and put the rest of my cargo into the elevator and... was one short. Left to get another piece of cargo and it turns out the thing reset and ate the new box I bought. At some point Hur L5 station ATC started getting funky. I'd call and it would act like I was leaving the station and basically just sit there with the call open. I could end it and then call again and it would give me the hanger. Once in the hanger things would seem "fine", but then several minutes later the hanger doors would open and then eventually shut again. Anything not in my ship or in the elevator would just poof. Including a box I was tractoring to the elevator. LOL. First time I had this happen... I had a bunch of boxes on the floor. :(. At one point the server crashed while I had stuff in the elevator. I was impressed that the boxes were still in the elevator when the server came back up. I tried to move one and it teleported forward a bit and got stuck in another box. I figured something was wrong so I left the hanger and logged out. Logged back in and it turns out all of my cargo had shifted forward and I had to basically move them from the one elevator to the other one. I think the other big annoyance is that every time I log in, I seem to be randomly at one of the stations I had visited over the last couple hours of my previous session. LOL All told, I maybe spent 12 or more hours playing since release. But yeah... things seem to work just enough that when goes jank it feels really bad.
I have played about the same as well. I have had a similar experience. Is this a repeat of 3.18????? I hardly think so. That was a horrible experience for sure. This is just a change and the community is reacting the way they always do….. with disdain from the ride we have all gone through. So, they are experiencing this change and muscle memory reacting the way we all do when we know we got shafted like they like to do to us This doesn’t feel like getting shafted it feels like a necessary step. Them creating fake videos of rifles on tables and passing it off like gameplay footage is shittier than the bugs
3.24 is a weird patch. It's not 3.18, or even the insanity of the 2.0 days (server crash time trials), but it is not ideal. The marketing behind the patch is cargo and that's what we lack. In the last week of the PTU, most of these issues were gone/non-existent for me, so I'm wondering if our issues are simply a result of scaling the new mission systems under the PU server loads. I suspect 3.24 will turn into 3.17 with the point patches and they will not create another branch until 4.0 is released. For your last question, I would prefer a dedicated Q&A video post. I don't mind it being posted a few days later. It'll give me more of a reason to come back between Captain's Tables
The fact that the question, 'initial gut reaction?' is even being asked does not bode well for this patch at all. There are times where I wish cig would just close the doors say they'll be back in a year or two and release a finished product. I realize they can't with how they've set themselves up as a company and this is just one of the problems with how they do things.
Ive had some elevator issues. but other than that its working better than the previous build. Unlike most I like having to go to my storage and doing everything physically. That was the promise from the start.
based on the title, gonna say definitely not. anyone who says it's as bad as 3.18 wasn't around in 3.18 or has a worse memory than me which is saying something. Now to watch! (also you're a history professor not math, so it's fine to not math :p )
wtf.. i have played the patch for like 20 hours and the only bug i had was the audio bug in ship that biping sound...was annoying but no game breaking bugs

3.23 was a gigantic downgrade to combat. Everyone told them it would be, so much as to the point of Avenger1 doing a streamed meeting with Yogi, so clearly this is something many people felt adamant about. No change, MM released as originally planned, and hurt combat immeasurably, as we suspected it would. We've given this feedback to CIG who supposedly is using it to shape their game. No change thus far. 3.24 looked like it was going to bring needless tedium and more time sync to a part of the game that actually kinda works. We gave CIG this feedback. They still released what turned out to be a tedious time sync, in addition to somehow breaking many, many, working parts of the game that had no issues until that point. So since 3.22, they have apparently decided to ditch listening to the people paying their salaries' feedback, and are now just pushing things out in a rush because they seem to be running out of money, and/or ship sales aren't what they used to be. Suddenly they are rushing out non-functional, garbage "content", whether it is going to be fun or not, just because they are racing to get the game to 1.0, no matter what the actual gameplay will look like. People are getting tired of this crap, and all the hype they gained since 3.22 has vanished because the new people have realized why so many online criticize this project. Video after video has been posted in the last 2 days from people about 1 year into their mistake of falling down the SC rabit hole, and are regretting their pledges do to how horrible specifically the last two major updates have been.
