    First of all you have some great work my friend. Secodnly, I totally agree about not needing the best to get great resutls. I still know people right now who can outshoot me and get better colors on an 8-bit camera than I can on my 10-bit camera. And its because they have learned their gear and their craft to the point that they are making art and the gear is just a tool when that happens. Love this review man. Very inspiring.

    Great video! I’ve literally been using f-log on my little Fuji XE4 for video lately (a camera not designed for video but surprisingly punches a little above its weight). While I do have amazing lenses for my A7IV (24mm Gmaster, 85mm 1.8 etc) they’re all primes and I’m not trying to shoot video while scrambling to constantly change lenses. My Tamron 28-75 G2 arrives in the next couple days and I cannot wait to start using that Sony!🙏🏼

    I just got this lens last week and I know its going to be amazing. It is a bit weird how this is considered a "budget" product yet it took me several months just to save up for one. I understand that the Sony and Sigma cost a lot more though. But honestly I've used all of them and still the Tamron is my favorite cause of the weight. My shoots run for extended amount of hours and I often utilize a gimbal. Neither the Sony nor Sigma have immense advantages in terms of image quality or features to justify the weight or price.

    Thats absolutely true, newer cameras tend to have features that we really don’t really need, and on top of that camera prices go up only for those useless features. That’s why last year I downgraded to a brand new Fujifilm XT3 that cost me 800 rather than purchasing a XT4 or a FX30. The only benefits that those two cameras has for me is the IBIS, but I hardly ever shoot on IBIS. I prefer the handheld imperfections or the stabilization of the Glidecam.

    I own the Tamron 28-75mm G2 ... As a portrait photographer I find the 500usd Sony 85mm better than the Tamron. When I shoot video, I often use my Samyang 35mm 1.4 II instead of the Tamron. Being a prime i find it sharper with better bokeh due to being 1.4 instead of 2.8. And I got the Sony 11mm for wider shots a7iv crops on 4k 60fps, becoming a 16mm on super 35mm) I don't know, I feel the Tamron not to be special at all and seldom use it :/

    • @MarcelGlas
      @MarcelGlas  8 місяців тому +2

      Thanks for taking the time to comment Luis. 🙌 I do understand where you're coming from. If sharpness and bokeh is something you are looking for, there certainly are better choices out there. When picking a standard zoom however, people are generally looking for versatility instead of corner to corner sharpness or the smoothest out of focus areas. It's a tremendous benefit to my work that I seldom have to think about swaping lenses and have total freedom in framing my shots. Knowing how to light your subject, composition and color grading can make just about any lens look good, which is quite a liberating thought.

    • @MarcelGlas
      @MarcelGlas  3 місяці тому +2

      Hey friend, by now I sold the Tamron 28-75mm and bought the Sony 20-70mm instead. That being said, I consider both of them as excellent and versatile lenses. If bokeh and low light is of high priority for you and you don't own another lens that scratches this itch then go with the Tamron. If you want maximum flexibility when it comes to zoom range and better stabilization then go with the Sony. I'm still in the process of putting the Sony to the test and will eventually drop another in depth review video for it. Hope this helps. ✌️

      @@MarcelGlas Well, that's the thing. I'm new to photography. I recently bought an A7iv (body only) and looking to buy my first lens. I'd say I'm more of a street/travel photographer. That's what I seem to enjoy the most. So for those purposes maybe bokeh and low light doesn't have to be a priority, and the A7iv is great in low light. Whichever lens I decide to go for, will be my only lens for some time.

    I want to get this lens, is it good for vertical social media video?

    • @MarcelGlas
      @MarcelGlas  6 місяців тому +2

      This highly depends on what you want to shoot. I love this lens for it's versatility, size and price. But there are obviously lighter lenses if you don't need the zoom range. Then there's wider lenses and also cheaper lenses. So if only intend to use it for vertical social media content I'd ask myself what exactly you're shooting and how flexible you need to be.

      @@MaziahMiranda If 28mm is wide enough for your style I'd say so, yes! It has a pretty good minimum focusing distance which can be beneficial for food photography/videography. In my opinion, 75mm is also good enough for portraits. If you can affoard it, I think you won't be disappointed.

  • @MAKINGOFbyAK

    Thanks for the video! But there is a very strong argument that the comparison/thoughts are dishonest. Why compare this lens with the first version of either, or Sony 24-70 GM II, or Sigma 24-70, when there is a well-known, worthy and correct competitor in the face of Sigma 28-70. That's what kind of lens you need to compare and draw conclusions with, the same focal lengths, the same 2.8 aperture, but Sigma in this case wins in weight and price (if you take into account, for example, Ebay). Many colleagues who work at weddings and assure that the lens does a better job with focusing (tracking characters, etc.), as well as it is more convenient to work with it on gimbal.
    I haven't been able to decide for six months which one to take for shooting a Sigma 28-70 or Tamron 28-70 G2 video. The author, I would really like to see your thoughts on this. Thanks!

    • @MarcelGlas
      @MarcelGlas  6 місяців тому +2

      I don't see why you'd want to call the review "dishonest". The entire point of the video is to call into question whether you'd need to spend extra on the premium lenses in the standard zoom range to get a good quality lens or not.
      If what you've stated about the Sigma 28-70 is indeed true, you've just found the answer you were looking for.

    • @MAKINGOFbyAK
      @MAKINGOFbyAK 6 місяців тому +1

      @@MarcelGlas It wasn't an accusation or something that should offend you. And just so you know, I put a like, including the attached comment.
      I just wrote that in fact the ONLY direct competitor both in terms of characteristics and price is the Sigma 28-70 lens, but you don't even mention it, most likely this is due to the fact that you had no experience with this lens. And premium class is generally a vague concept.
      I've been suffering for a long time, and I don't know which of the two lenses to choose. My colleagues I wrote about, they are Sigma fans, so I can't trust their judgments 100% I am (as it seems to me) a rational person, I don't care which brand, I care how it works. If you choose between Tamron 28-75 G2 and Sigma 28-70, then the weight and dimensions are in favor of Sigma, and this is an important parameter for working with Gimbal. And if Sigma really works better with autofocus (object tracking), then I would definitely buy Sigma. In other aspects, I like Tamron G2 more for video, better sharpness (especially in the corners), more beautiful bokeh, better for macro, etc.
      The depth of the problem is that I still can't find good comparison videos on the subject of Tamron 28-75 G2 and Sigma 28-70 autofocus, or the opinion of a person who would have experience working with both lenses, who would definitely give me the answer to this question.

    • @MarcelGlas
      @MarcelGlas  6 місяців тому +2

      @@MAKINGOFbyAK I found the claim of being dishonest a little inappropriate. Thanks for clarifying, no offense taken.
      I see your point. Unfortunately I can't give you a direct comparison of the Tamron 28-75 and the Sigma 28-70. Easiest solution would be to rent both of them for a day or two and come to your own conclusions.
      There's people who will tell you that the final image is all that matters and if the Tamron allows you to get more pleasing bokeh, sharper results and better close ups, it will be the better choice. And then there are people who will tell you that usability is a major factor of a good lens.
      What I can tell you is that the grass is always going to be greener on the other side but there likely won't be a wrong choice. It's all about trade offs.
      If you're a hobbyist you can't go wrong with either of them and if you'll earn money with this lens you should just test both of them for a while.
