Plot twist: Liam was actually there the entire time. He just rolled a 40 on Stealth so no one can tell.
Underrated
We can't even remember him being there because he stealthed so hard that time altered itself around him
He stealthed out of existance
That was my thought exactly!
He rolled a 79
I love that Grog is basically the team's timer. "Do something or I will just start hitting shit."
I think after the shopping episode, Travis decided to take his matter into his own hands if others arent doing shit
I love that whenever the group is indecisive about a plan Travis comes up with a plan that is virtually guaranteed to fail to make the group decide what to do.
That is the secret true purpose of the Barbarian.
@@Introbulus Actually true. Thinking back on it, the current campaign im in, the barb has forced decisions multiple times by threatening to run in and hit shit.
I think travis just has no patience and will say whayever stupid shit comes into his stupid little brain to keep things going.
@@xxliew i dont know if hes stupid or not but hes certainly the smartest in the group
@@xxliew Whoa there, while Grog is perhaps the most intellectually challenged of VM, Travis has proven time and time again that he is an excellent role player and strategist that makes sure not to metagame (too much) by making his character smarter than Grog is. While yes, Grog does say dumb things, it is Travis in character.

Or did you just want to spew some woman hate and then forget you didn't have anything to end the thought with?
@@jebbush6657 literally nothing in his comment had any implication that the hate was because she's a woman. It's a rash, rude comment for sure, but don't turn it into something it's not because you're doing yourself and the everyone else a disservice.
@@jebbush6657 you can't brush off every comment as woman hate wtf nothing implied woman hate there you weirdo, I personally really like jester but Laura in campaign 1 is horrible, she is greedy as hell, whines when things don't go her way, metagames the most, doesn't mark off spells or adds extra effects to them until Matt calls it out, is negative in every fight with her token "We are gonna die," stole from a PC and wouldn't lift a finger to help someone unless there's something in it for her, she sucks.
"Nobody's going to watch a bunch of people playing D&D." Matthew Mercer, 2015. Hah.

I wish she'd never taken the freaking stupid broom to be completely honest. Every episode becomes about, "and I fly on my broom, and I fly on my broom, etc" ad nauseum... personally I struggled a ton with this set of characters but Vex's greed rubbed me the wrong way big time and this was like a constant reminder of her jerking over an ally who'd done nothing but help them(if we separate the actor from the Gern character, he was NOTHING but pleasant and was probably crippled in a lot of respects lifestyle wise the way he'd been getting by once his broom was gone) and it seemed like it became less about her being a ranger or a rogue and all she wanted to do was find minimal reason to fly on that stupid thing.
You know what the problem was? The river is essentially the door to the Shademurk. So of course it had to give them trouble.
NODDERS
Being the Feywild, I wonder if they had stopped and asked permission from whatever might be in the rivers to cross, they might have been able to get across a lot more easily
Everybody gangsta till Pike passes her stealth checks.

Jesus, how the hell does Sam think of those clever moves. I mean cutting the rope with magic missile. His style of playing is just amazing.
Sam is the best, this is one of his top 10 for sure.
Tyroki Yup. For his songs and for how he plays. It’s that same kinda thing that people like robin williams had where they can riff extremely well. Really rare and awesome talent
To be fair, the rope was a good idea for the river, not so much for when magic florida attacks
Yeah, but he always hides his brilliant moves with a thick layer of jokes. First thirty episodes I thought he had no clue how to play. Then I started watching closely and am now embarrassed at the initial impression.
@@stevenweller9413 Sam always tried to think extremely hard about his moves; sometimes taking too long to think of what to do, but he made that time count.

"we're invisible *and* the broom is invisible? *phew*"
Lmaoo that was hilarious
That time the party tied themselves together for safety, not knowing they were essentially making themselves a giant sausage link.
I know people focus on Laura’s reactions to the broom, but Talesin’s expressions are also worth watching. He spent a LOT of time making sure that Vex could fly the broom safely. It’s his baby too.
Yes! So glad someone else noticed this. No Mercy Percy was ready to annihilate that hag for daring to damage the broom lol...
Only because it would be SUCH a liability in addition to her greed.
I hated her reaction. As funny as Travis was and as awesome as Ashley was, Laura's greed is just disgusting. She honestly needs to chill.
@@PhobosDDeimos Maybe go back and watch E60 again to try and get a handle on why Vex is acting the way she does. It's excellent character work by Laura Bailey - it had me laughing to the point of crying while she was doing it but really sad for her afterwards when you think about the root cause of her 'greed'.
@@PhobosDDeimos Hey, players are allowed to have prized possessions. Even if it is just an item, Laura is allowed to have an item that she enjoys so much she doesn't want to lose it. Also, Travis and her are /married/, I think he understands when she's joking and being serious.
And if we're talking in character, Vex has reasons to be ''greedy'' (literally go back to the episode with her father + any mentions of her backstory.) Not even to mention that Percy spent nights working on upgrading the broom for her, which just adds sentimental value to the item (since Percy is her love interest.)
So, chill out and realize the motivations behind the character. Also, it's a cool magical item that Laura Bailey just wants to keep. Lighten up a bit.
"Hello darkness my old friend,
It seems I'm useless once again..."
*Travis cries deeply*
It's easy to forget that Travis attended an arts and theater school.
"It's hard and smooth. And appears to wiggle loosely when you touch it." Best line of the show by Matt lol
Don't forget it started with a bulge.
51:42 "I instinctively cover my neck". Honestly, Vex hitting Scanlan in the neck during broom flying/arrow shooting practise on the chickens, is one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life. So glad Sam remembers it too lol.
Grog saying "Can I cast..." is such a wonderful thing
Fun fact: Sam sprained his knee while trying to get on the stage. Was in pain throughout the show and had to go to physical therapy for two months. Dedication.
Source?
Man, it's funny.
Wow, what a fun fact...
"fun" fact?? not to him, i imagine
Talk about rolling a 1 on athletics
Will Wheaton would be proud of Marisha's rolls during this session.
This is like the world's most bizarre game of Oregon Trail
Vax already got dysentery for a while back at Whitestone after the rakshasa fight, so you might be onto something here.
These guys would have died on the east coast planing the trip till they starve to death.
😆😆😆
Scanlon being clever as hell hitting the rope to free each individual all at the same time. Outstanding solution. Well played sir Gnome, well played.
Tell me a situation he wasn’t MVP in. Meanwhile Vex can’t even remember she has a bear or Hunters Mark for 3 years straight a d still treats him like garbage constantly.
@@true_plays_games I've been disliking Laura more and more with each passing episode. I can't even say it's because of her character, although that is a part of it (Vex just sucks). Decisions like the metagaming for loot that got her killed when they found the first vestige and her general greediness is just not fun. She's so hell bent on getting herself whatever items she wants out of character (which is annoying in itself) and then lords it over everyone and treats people like crap while in character. Makes it extremely hard to be a fan of hers. The comment to Travis about the broom might not have been entirely serious but it was so just so petty that it wasn't even funny. I swear she just seems like Gollum to me
@@alittlesnag how was Percy getting Vex killed in your mind Laura’s fault?
@@ikanhazw1n people are mad she ran over there despite her saying she wanted to look for traps. Because she ran over there outnof greed it's her fault.so it's more of a proxy way of complaining about her greed

No, he wouldnt. They are actually good players. They just roll with DMs judgement most of the time.

This is so funny on a meta level. Matt essentially took one of the classical situation which almost every player encounters in their game (How will the players cross the river...) and put in on steroids. My Gamemaster heart approves.
I love it when the crowd is shouting DISADVANTAGE when Matt rolled that 19
I don't think I have seen anyone have as much fun as Taliesin had watching someone else roll dice.
"You are tripping balls right now" is my favorite quote ever in this show
his voice when he says it
I love all the players, but as a DM, Sam and Travis are two I'd be crazy happy to have in my game. Sam is so on top of team play, like he pushed everyone but also does everything to protect everyone. Travis is great for story movement and story respect. He makes sure everyone is respecting the DM's time and tries to reduce them from talking over him, and when plans take too long he forces them to decide by offering a worse option, which again respects the DM.
I really would enjoy all of them, but by far, Sam and Travis!
I agree, I would kill for players like Sam and Travis. Not hating on the rest, they are good and entertaining on their own ways, but those two are simply the best of the group by a long mile, being super funny and very good roleplayers at the same time.
I love how so many episodes can be summed up in very few words, but they're 3+ hours a clip.
"VM crosses some streams."
"VM goes shopping."
Etc.
"The Gang Crosses a River"
I mean, anything in life can be reduced down like that. It’s about the journey, not the destination. Instead it was more like, “VM faces death in strange ways to a stream that has a memetic call of the void. In trying every trick they have in the book, they had to use their ingenuity to cross each stream. But their hubris caught up with them and they faced an enormous monster that was half plant half animal. Working as a team, they were able to defeat it, and even Garmile, an unpredictable wildcard, chose to save Vex even when he did not have to.” A lot more happened than just crossing streams. :/
2:43:42 Matt gains the ability to kill Travis for real...
Would have loved Matt jokingly saying "How do you want to do this?" when Travis rolled the natural 20 for throwing Pike.
Pretty sure Matt's not suicidal... XD
Picturing this actually made me laugh out loud. You're right, it would've been perfect!
When Matt said Vax was going o save his boots of haste I legitimately snorted. Have you MET Vax? First thing he would have said is to use the boots. Come on!
Yeah, but I think Liam's gonna be back for the next episode, and he wouldn't want to use something like that without the player being there. Especially given that it's early in the day for VM, and they'll likely have another battle (and possibly a more important one) later on.
Matt was saving them so Liam vould choose to use them later in the day/next session if the opportunity were to present itself to do so since they only work once a day/once per long rest. At least that's what I'd assume/what I'd do if I were DMing and had to play for a player
the absolute look of HORROR in Matt's eyes when Grog says he wants to chop down a tree is hilarious

I’m CRYING at Sam’s inspiration for himself and the Hamilton reference 🤣🤣🤣 was not expecting it. FANTASTIC
I love how much Vex embodies the greedy rogue, more so than Vax. Also, that dramatic pause...I thought Travis was dead. Great episode.
vex has always been the greedy one. Vax is just a sneaky assassin
According to one of their early Q&A's, Laura always plays a rogue in RPG's and Liam knew this, so he made sure to get in there before her. It's likely why, as you say, she is more greedy than Vax in relation to their classes, but also likely why she chose Rogue as her second class.
Honestly, I think they've been developing this dynamic on purpose for a long time. The half-shunned twins, the often-too-generous-sometimes-to-assuage-his-own-guilt thief and the sensible-dipping-into-greedy ranger (who is also the most capable of surviving on her own outside of society)....both over-correcting for their childhood, if in slightly different directions. I expect that Liam was going to go Paladin of Sarenrae (he certainly hinted it) but this opportunity was so perfect. And then Laura moved into Rogue at almost exactly the same time, Vex grounding Vax in his past, Vax reminding Vex of *why* they have grown into who they are. Reminding her that they aren't as shitty as the ones who snubbed and bullied them. They're not perfect, because neither of them wanted to play Mary Sue - but they have engaging faults and virtues, which drive the story and support the party. Which really, isn't that everything you can ask for in a dnd character?
Laura is an annoying, greedy ass who acts like she's a goddess
Uh, that's because she is. Duh.

Logan Reynolds Bless you, sir.
A Druid terrified of the ground is hilarious! 😂
Watching through for the first time, the whole thing with Garmy getting thrown over the river to the middle finger has by far been the best thing I've seen in months. Triggered my asthma from laughing too hard.
I love Grog and Pikes friendship, it makes me smile.
It's the purest thing! :D
I love how exasperated Matt seems when he describes the "hard and smooth object"
Travis acting completely unamused at Laura but then totally being into it when she gets a good roll is super adorable.
So true. I love how he laughs and points when she rolls a nat 1 at 20:21, because he gets equally excited when she rolls well. And she gets super excited when he rolls well, too. It's adorable.
I love the transition of Travis’s face from “shit that was close, thought she was gonna kill me-“ to “Matt don’t do this to me...” was too good 2:56:24 *saving a marriage*
When the audience screams: That's okay. I didn't need my ears. (Bleeds profusely from ear cavities)
MaskofFayt I leave my volume at 60%, you can hear and never have scream issues.
I use speakers that way i dont have to complain about self imposed problems.
I mean I use speakers and the screaming is still annoying. Its the same with any live panel though, obnoxiously loud audiences.
It takes away the enjoyment, for me.
I honestly hope that was the last live episode.
I get it's amazing for the audience to have the group so close to them, but paint me green and call me a pickle that is annoying.
Travis: "You're going to die live!"
*thug life shades*
I died when Matt rolled that disadvantage and he just went "Heh". That's always a fun thing for a dm
Matt missed such an opportunity
Vex : You wasted your entire hour of flying for that?
Matt : And Vax walks away
I was so sad about the lack of Liam, but Matt roleplays Vax literally perfectly after all this time playing together. He even mimics Vax's voice flawlessly.
He did except for one thing: Vax never ever "saves" his boots of haste for later. It's literally the first thing he always does ^^
@@PhobosDDeimos
There have been some moments when that was the case, but yeah. 😋
I suspect Matt didn't use them here so as to avoid a potential situation next Thursday where Liam attempts to use the boots and Matt has to explain he can't, which would be an instance of taking away the player's control--something he has a distaste for.
He is so clever this Mathew Mercer.
it must blow their minds that they are more known and recognized for playing DND than for their voice acting, which is amazing in it's own, love Ashley Johnson last of us
i love some games and anime and i literally never look at the voice actors... cus that means reading small letters and i love to read but i suck at paying attention... i love laura and recently found out who she voices in the some of the games and anime i watch.
To be fair, I knew Liam, Matt, Sam and Laura from their voice acting long before I knew of CR. Liam's been one of my favorite voice actors for more than a decade.
I enjoyed Matt's voice acting a LOT but had no idea that all the characters I really liked the dialogue of were him until I found out who he was. 😂
_"I was in the sky, trying to get the training team in my viewfinder from the rear seat of the lead plane._
_My pilot in the front seat was howling at the earth below..._
_...The world turned upside down, and my stomach turned inside out."_
While watching this episode I looked up each of their other roles and they play some characters that I really love
If I didn't watch anime in japanese I'd probably recognize these guys from a lot of things.
And maybe a book for Wildemount. Well mr Mercer, let me tell ya something lol
Given their location for this one I feel like an opportunity was lost in not pointing out to Grameeli that they had finally arrived at the theatre.
If Liam was there I guarentee he would have as he was the one that kept bringing it up. 😋
I wish I had discovered this sooner. I'm going to watch nothing else but this until I'm caught up.
it's so good it got me into dnd
Yeah, same... almost there now :D
And I'd love to try DnD. I've played Pathfinder before, which is quite similar but somehow feels more... harsh. Dunno what it is.
Same, and I'm starting way after you did. I still have about fifty episodes to go until I catch up
That's what I did. Haven't watched a movie or another show in a month or two. Just this. An episode to two a day. I think I have a problem...
Five months in off and on it hurts to stop watching but I have no longer have any other kind of social life
Important question: What happens if Marisha gave her new D20 to Wil Wheaton? Will the two curses cancel each other out?
Natesh13 or it'll create a black hole of critical failure that will permanently curse the entire room or worse.
Plot twist. Wil Wheaton is the Sauron of D&D, and that dice is the one ring.
I think that's how you get negative rolls
Aidan Wedgbury "I roll to attack the gaurd."
*rolls dice*
"You heal the gaurd."
All the numbers would immediately become 1
"This creature is pretty profound at swallowing larger entities" that is my favourite line xD
Travis was delighted at that and all of the subsequent innuendo. It's nice to have people with dirty minds represented at the table :D
Kept waiting for Matt to take this opportunity playing as Vax to flirt with his wife xD
Surprisingly didn't happen.

He totally changed his mind about disenchanting the broom just to save Travis' life didn't he?
Im assuming it was a different spell than dispell magic in the first place
I actually think it’s bc scanlan said the command word a second tkme
I think he meant for it to be disenchanted but felt bad for Laura and Travis, each for different reasons.
Nope you can see the look on his face, he loves messing with them, this would never have happened if Laura hadn’t said something to Travis. He was just creating tension in Laura like a good story teller does.
Well to be fair even with the magic carpet technically it wasn't disenchanted by the anti magic, it was only cause of the acud it happened to fall in so unless there was something to physically damage the broom, it getting sucked into the sludge and lost, or being shattered it didn't sound like he was planning to disenchant it. Also I don't know what magic would disenchant an object xause you'd think a spell that could render your foes magical armor or weapon mundane would be very popular. I don't know too much about spells though so I have no idea if such a thing exists.
I always love when Matt says “how do you want to do this”? And to see the reaction of the live crowd? So damn awesome!
No Liam?? I need my dagger dagger dagger 🗡
Ashley is representing
Marisha's shirt helped
I know this is an old video but I would like to Thank you all. I quit playing this game over 20 years ago during 2nd edition and never thought about the game again. 6 months ago I caught one of your vids on You Tube and saw it could be fun again. I have joined several campaigns and played a lot of AL because of you guys. In a week I am running my first campaign in over 2 decades. You are wonderful; people keep up the good work.
Please update. How’d the campaign go?
I haven't played in over 20 years myself but watching this series I reeeaaallly want to find a group and get back into it.
@@RoninXDarknight do it! There are a lot of online communities you can join and if (like me) you want IRL, start a group yourself!
Same I played in the early 90s but I always loved it and played PC games with D&D rules but my love of the game never left me I will always miss sitting around a table with my friends for endless hours in a world we created.
Accidental retcons are always great. (Pike getting thrown when she was already on the other side.)
Well, she was there in ethereal form anyway. Who's to say she didn't decide that her ethereal form would be over there so Grog could throw her.
It would be too sad to stop that momentum.
I thought she and scanlan were 5 rivers across with 2 to go? 🤔
Travis had that look of "Matt....you're going to get me divorced over a broom!!!!"
That moment when Matt pauses and Ashley helps push Travis off the stage... *dying of laughter*
All the faces Matt makes as he realizes just how much shit his monster's in...
Quarantine and shelter in place... Time to finally get caught up!
Just reached this point. I can safely say the Mighty Nein are better people.
That's what I'm doing!
Same! .... Oh wow your comment was four months ago.... it's been a long time already
I started late into quarantine and seeing that this is from 8 months ago is a little painful lol
@@katherinejoyce696 I'm now up to C2 Episode 90!
I cannot tell whether the death threat was absolute proof that Travis and Laura definitely play games together or definitely don't 🤣🤣🤣 that was some real Mario Cart energy right there
"This creature is profound in swallowing larger entities"
Cassie Barns So just like your mom, then?
100 d20 psychic damage
Travis' mind went there at the speed of light. His expression was brilliant
Travis : :o :o :o
Tal: HIDE HIDE HIDE
Ashley: Pushes Travis off the table to escape the wrath of Vex!
True friendship ladies and gentlemen.
One of Ashley's strongest moments! One of Laura's weakest.
Feywild subplot: Grog wanting to chop down a tree
I have spent an hour listening to people trying to cross a river, have no idea when they'll manage it, and am not even upset. D&D is a strange but wonderful experience.
Keyleth/Marisha deserved that moment with the Blight so much for all the 1 she rolled at the start!
That’s just using your spells right!
She did it, she finally did it!
She deserved it the least lol
@@BKInbound my guy, shut up
1:07:20 Ok Scanlan's "she was teaching me the swirly-whirly" innuendo was actually too funny though
1:39:40 Also something about this cutting words deal from Sam's 8/10 dice role to Matt's little puking sound as the Croc gets distracted was so funny to me so I just wanna mark it for later :P
The look on Travis's face when Matt said the broom slowed down, man. lmao
Me 45 minutes in the episode: Wait are they going to spend the entire episode trying to cross the river?
*Looks at the title of the episode* Oh no...
Same!
How did I read your comment at exactly 45 minutes? Witchcraft!
The only thing worse than doors….moving water.
@@pauljinkerson6359 This kind of makes it seem like VM are vampires.
Those fanarts were even more amazing than usually.
"you've known me for years, you just met the broom" hahahahahahaha
Ok, it's been many episodes and I've still got many episodes to catch up on, but my thoughts so far...
I like Travis. He's a good player and just really gets into his character. Even when it sucks, he rolls with it and it's truly a joy to watch. Having never watched the Fullmetal Alchemist series, I deliberately started watching it on Netflix just because of his role as Roy Mustang. Really great guy.
However, I think I'm turning into a true Scanlan fan. Sam plays the game so well. He doesn't break character and he doesn't meta-game, but he uses the game and rules to the advantage of the group so very well. He's truly a great support. The use of Magic Missiles in this game is probably no true to the rules of the game, but the creativity of it in the moment allowed Matt to make an exception, and I'm glad he did. It was a really great moment, and Sam's done this many times in the course of the game. I bet he gives Matt fits but it's great.
Magic missile never specifies if it can only hit creatures, or enemies, it just says " blah blah, summons magical missiles to hit enemy creature, blah blah" but, considering how many different enemies there are, I think Magic Missile is more a sight based spell than a rule based spell, if that makes sense.
I also love how supportive Sam and Tals are to the rest of the crew. Not just with awesome creativity in game, but with supportive comments and encouragement. Brilliant, wonderful people.
you can see Travis trying to so hard not to be travis and stay grog when he is the only one that realizes that the plan is gonna fail
@@noamcohen7124 i really dont get why travis fanboys like you give him so much undeserved credit
@Ana you should really just stop. You sound like a salty ass Ex GF that is jealous of her ex BF having success. Travis is one of the few in the cast that stays true to their character & very very little meta gaming compared to the rest. Him & Sam are the two rocks that hold down the team, the others are great too, but they slip into meta gaming in this campaign while those two stay true
Also what a thing to write one divorce papers: "He made a terrible decision in our DnD game, so I can no longer love him." 🤣 I also saw Travis' soul leave his body.
As funny as it was, Laura seriously needs to chill with her greedyness. It's really gone out of hand. Would I be sitting at that table, I would be so annoyed because of her.
Damn, get a load of Marisha Wheaton over here.
