  • In this video I set up an incubator that was gifted to me long ago. I am not being compensated to talk about this product. I am not recommending anyone buy this product because I haven't used it yet. This is just a video about me setting up this incubator. Thanks for watching!

Glad you have another incubator to add to your rotation. I volunteer in a class that hatches chickens each spring. I'm looking forward to seeing the incubator they use and comparing it with those you use.

Thanks Jeff. Very informative video. It's nice to see detailed instructions on how it goes together. We were looking at Hova Bator models for future hatching. The 1602N seems like a winner. Looking forward to seeing how it performs. Peace!

Use a good thermometer to check the calibration on the thermometer that came with the incubator, I found that most of those thermometers can be 2 or more degrees off. Make sure that the adjusting screw is tight into the wafer thermostat. Make sure the wing nut is snug after adjusting the temperature. Let the incubator run for 24 to 48 hours while adjusting the thermostat, before putting any eggs in the incubator. The thermostat once set probably should not need to be changed during the incubating process. After using the incubator for a hatcher be sure and take an air hose and blow out the feather dust that may gather in between the wafers on the thermostat. After turning off the incubator, before using it again, turn it back on and let it run for 24 hours to warm back up. Do not adjust the temperature during this 24 hours it may not need to be adjusted. After 24 hours adjust if necessary.

I know that it's been seven months and you probably don't remember making this comment but I need to know, is there anything else I should be aware about for this incubator before I decide to buy it? Or is this all and I probably don't need to do anything else to get it running properly?

UUUUU a new gadget. I can't wait for updates on that whole process. How cool. Seems small but it does hold quite a few eggs. Drew need to check your gift pile again and see what else is out there all forgotten.

Good video! I just had my Hovabator 2370 delivered today and wanted to make sure I had it set up properly. It may be a different model than you’re but they are similar enough to let me know I’ve got it all right.

I’m curious. I’d make a mark on each egg and observe how much they turn in different places in the incubator. There may be good or bad spots. If it’s pretty equal, no big deal.

What I want to know is :
    1) Is this a good model for aquatic and/or semi-aquatic turtles?
    2) If crucial components fail and/or get damaged (including the structure itself, the heating element(s), the thermostat, etc.), can those items be replaced easily?

Thanks so much for the video Jeff. I have a question; did you buy the egg turner appart? because I have the incubator and now I just need the egg turner, but I cannot find it. There is just one for quail eggs. I hope you can help me.
    Greetings from Ecuador.

That is one fancy incubator. With all your choices to set it up, you might not have to monitor it as closely as some models. Best of luck on the new hatchlings.

Hi there Jeff, Here's another blender recipe.
    Blender Eggnog
    6 Eggs
    6 oz Sugar
    16 oz Milk
    10 oz heavy whipping cream
    1 1/2t Vanilla extract
1t cinnamon, ground or a stick of cinnamon
    *
Put sugar and eggs in blender and give it a bit of a mix up, don't forget the lid.
Add the milk and cream, blend
Add vanilla and cinnamon, blend about five minutes. Chill 4 hours.
This should be consumed the day it's made because of using raw eggs.
However, if raw eggs are a concern to you. Pour it from the blender into a medium-sized saucepan and heat on low for 25 minutes. Stir frequently. Do Not boil!
This will keep 2-3 days in the refrigerator.
    Enough for 3-4 servings.
    * Optional, add a double portion of Brandy, Rum, or whiskey.

Jeff- have you ever tried incubating a double-yoke egg?

    • @jjudy5869
      @jjudy5869 4 роки тому +2

Not Jeff - usually the chicks don't survive. Not sure why, not enough yolk for both chicks or not enough room for the developing chicks.

I see this video is pretty old. Was wondering how you feel about this incubator now that you've had it a while. My son is looking into getting an incubator, something with a 50 to 100 egg capacity. Is there a particular fully automated model that you could recommend? Always enjoy learning with you thanks for all the videos

This one holds 40 eggs with the turner in it, more if you want to turn them by hand. It does not have a humidity gauge with it, so you'll need to get one to put in there. I've had good success with it after several hatches. It holds the temperature very well. Once you've got it dialed in, it doesn't need to be adjusted during incubation. I usually only need to add water twice to keep the humidity levels up.
There is an upgraded version of this, GQF Genesis, that uses the same egg turner, but that one does have a humidity reading and the top has a bigger window. Also does about 40 eggs with the turner. I think it's worth the extra cost for this one if you are going to do a lot of hatching.
I haven't used either of these long enough to see how well they hold up over time, but so far so good. Definitely better than the cheaper Little Giant incubator that are available which are very similar. I was constantly having to tweak the temperature with that one.
If you want a bigger one, you might want to look at the cabinet incubators from GQF. I bought one, the 1502 Sportsman, but I haven't used it yet. It'll hold around 270 eggs. Cog Hill Family Farm has a couple of those and have reviewed them. Those are some big bucks for an incubator, but it looks like they work great and they last many years. incubatorwarehouse.com is a good place to shop for them, I've had good experiences with them. There are lots of other incubators out there, Brinsea has a great reputation, but I haven't tried them to know. Good luck and happy hatching!

Hens don't always go broody when you would like, and some never will go broody at all, so you use an incubator when you want chicks :)
