When the vocals kicked in a single tear rolled down my cheek, the combination of musicianship and nostalgia really moved me. This game helped me through a rough time in my childhood, when no one else was there, Mario was :)
Aw thank you so much. :) I'm glad you enjoyed my cover. Koji Kondo is such a great composer. I'm also glad SM64 helped you, I can relate. Mario forever!
Has this song or it’s opening motif ever actually been in Super Mario Galaxy or 2? I seem to remember it being there, especially with the high echo sound on piano existing as some spacey sound from one of the games. I’ve looked but can’t find what I’m thinking of, am I just crazy? It’s been a long time since I played those games.
Hey Michelle I just wanted to say this rework means so much to me. This song already triggers me in a way no one understands and this version brings me tears of joy and also sorrow as it reminds me of the hardships I have gone through. Your voice is just the icing on the cake, thank you so much and I will be donating in the near future. Please keep up the good work.
yeah, I still come back to this beautiful cover and listen every week or so... and play along with my acoustic. one of my fav video game tracks. I mean the music speaks for itself lol
it was hell growing up in a poor family. it was songs from games like this that helped me get through those rough times. thank you for sharing this was beautiful
The depth and blending of your harmonies always blow me away. Especially since you are harmonizing with yourself on harmonies that didn't exist in the original track! Piano and Drums too, just... wow!
Wow, I can definitely see how much you’ve improved since the last time you did this song. Between vocal arraignment and your drum skills, this is a big plus!
My 6 month old will be crying sometimes like babies do, but if I play this video he always quiets down immediately and listens. Won't turn away. Just stares and listens. It's a beautiful song from my childhood, but you perform it like I never could have imagined. Bravo!
When I was a child, about 11, one of the highlights of my day was playing Super Mario 64. It was one of the moments I was not unhappy. Its soundtrack may not be the best or most iconic of the Mario Series, but it is full of good and warm memories, and this version really makes me emotional by recalling those childhood good times. Simply beautful and moving perfomance from Michelle.
It’s soundtrack may be not the best in the series but it is far from being bad. 64 has so many iconic tracks. And just like Odyssey has an outstanding OST nowadays I think 64s OST were outstanding for its time.
Finally, you are the person who is the playing the closest to the original version. Especially at 0:40 the bassline. I've seen many versions where they don't respect the melody variations, they do their reinterpretation, or they don't know to read a music sheet and play by ear. Thank you for respecting the compositor's original vision.
This was my favorite game growing up and I still play it regularly. This soundtrack got me through a rough patch in my life last year. Hearing this cover was like a wonderful and emotional trip through my life. Excellent job, and thank you for this!
One of the few tracks that bring out the peace and quiet in Nintendo soundtracks. Somehow you were able to add to that sense of respite with your performance. Keep up the good work, I hope your channel gets proper recognition soon!
I was genuinely impressed, and then when you came out on a drumset with a ponytail, my heart stopped. I am now clinically dead, and this was the soundtrack that played as the paratroopas whisked me to the land of endless coins and spaghetti.
It just works. It connects with your soul. Call it nostalgia, call it timeless. But it’s branded to our spirit, a beautiful melody that is both comforting, and familiar.
Literally my favorite song from SM64. Thank you so much for this perfectly timed upload. I'm leaving for Military Basic Training in a few days and this is a much needed stress reliever 😇
Wow, first time I've visited your channel and to say I'm impressed would a ridiculous understatement. How so much talent could be coupled with so much beauty is beyond staggering. Such great harmonies as well. Simply amazing
Thank you for making this. I will go on a job interview and was anxious. This video helped me calm down and now i feel ready for the interview. Thank you!
Great job! You really captured the feel that ddd has when it goes from a nice relaxing song to a banger with the drums and vocals! This one’s a big favorite of mine
I’ve been playing through Mario 64 again on the Switch and this song brings a lot of happy memories. Love your version. You even added the bell part on the ride cymbal!
Beautifully done. This song always was a stand-out of the whole ost for me and you nailed it. The video is great too, cause you're not bad looking either. OwO
This is insanely good. As a percussionist, I respect that you understand your bounds as a set player so you split the parts so that you can still provide the best performance for this. I look forward to watching more of your videos. Keep up the good work!
It’s kind of crazy, I’ve been listening to Trivium for years, seen them multiple times and go fived Matt both times. All of this time I’ve had a deep passion for video game music too. Can’t believe it took me this long to figure out he has an amazingly musically talented sister who loves video game music 😅 I’m so glad I finally know who you are! Much love to both you and your brother from Wisconsin :)
Absolutely beautiful. I was teaching a one year old how to play Mario 64 last week, and he started imitating Mario's jumping sounds (woo! Woo hoo!). He really liked this song too, and now I have an even better version for him to listen to.
I always thought - since 1997 - the part here at 0:45 is mostly reused for the interlude in Zelda's theme. Also for part of the credits music in Star Fox 64. Same chord progression at least.
Loved the extra vocal touches. Really brings a new dimension to this classic piece. Great voice, great playing, great video. Nothing more to say, really. Thank you for this amazing cover!
Lyrics : [Chorus] I really want to save the princess of my dreams, tonight And I really want to kill Bowser in his sleep, for the better And it is really hard work, stomping all these goombas I wish it could be over, and soon I really wish I could be near Jolly Roger Bay, but I can't And I really, really want to be with Peach, the princess [Chorus] I really want to save the princess of my dreams, tonight And I really want to kill Bowser in his sleep, for the better And it is really hard work, stomping all these goombas I wish it could be over, and soon I really wish I could be near Jolly Roger Bay, but I can't And I really, really want to be with Peach, the princess
Fantastic work, Michelle! This will always be one of my favorite video game music tracks. No matter how many times I listen to it, it still evokes that nostalgia and emotion. I love how the track builds layers as it goes and how calming it is. It's amazing how tracks you've been hearing for 20+ years still mean so much to you. And I'm so glad people like you keep them alive!
Unrelated to the music, but you have really great hair. Having never heard the tune before, I think the performance was nice and crisp, with lovely harmonies.
Fantastic covers like this one of scores from Mario 64 and the DKC series are always bitter sweet. They’re so beautiful, but makes a lot of us dream of happy days gone. Keep up the wonderful work, Michelle.
Covers like this are why I'm so glad I chose to invest in good headphones. Videos like this are also why I'm glad I have a nice monitor too. I haven't really said anything about it before, but your video editing skills have improved so much over time! The subtle things going on here with the video transitions really help accentuate the moments you appear to have a lot of pride in, and I think that's a really nice bow to tie on top of what is obviously an excellent cover. A lot of people would shy away from the added rhythm parts and fills, but I think the consistency and subdued nature of the drums here actually adds a lot to the original composition. Even if I couldn't hear anything, I'd know it was great from the little grin you like to make when you know a part you're recording is just absolutely sick. There's something really special about that moment when a musician knows they're in the pocket. Side note: How many deals with the devil does it take to never age and to make such gorgeous sounds? Did you trade your whole family's souls? I was so excited to see the notification for this video, you still haven't disappointed me yet! Thanks for another really great cover = )
I thought about it and my best guess is that they chose DDD as the official title (even though the DDD level comes later) because of the nice alliteration, and maybe because it goes well with other level/song titles like Cool, Cool Mountain, Lethal Lava Land, Bob-omb Battlefield etc :)

Would love a re-release on Switch of Mario 64, to me it’s still the best Mario game ever
That would be awesome :D
And Super Mario galaxy 🤭
@Truth I had read something online about a possible remake, think the article was a few years a go. I would love to play this game again.
64, Odyssey, Galaxy, and sunshine! The best Super Mario games of all time!!!
Idk guys. The older Mario games are hard to beat. Mario rpg is my favorite.
This brings back so much nostalgia from when life was more simple. Fantastic cover :)
finalfantasy7kid same bro
Life can be simple again if you don't follow how the media says you need to. Live a simple life and be more happy.
Bruh, I hope you can find that happiness again. It's out there!
I'm glad it could bring you nostalgia :) Thank you for your kind words!
Life was so much harder then.... particularly this level
Legit cried hearing this - nostalgia hits like a train sometimes
Now I am crying hearing it too 😭
Im NOT crying, this is just a rainy day...

This song hurts so much...
I was so much happier back then.
Same. I wish I was a kid again. Oh well.
So lets fight adversity and be happy again!
Cancel your internet service and get rid of your mobile phone and live life how you did back then. I'm much happier how I was before by doing it.
You can go back. But you can't stay. Just know you're still you and that happiness can spring forth if you can focus to bring it.
God bless you.
I feel that every single time I think of my n64. I loved the 90s
For a split second I felt like i was 5 years old again jumping on to the ship grabbing the star. Thank you for this gem ❤❤❤
Wow, you make me feel so old (no worries lol). The N64 came out the month before I turned 19.

Holy crap I didn’t expect this to be this good. It’s nice to hear "non-melody" parts, too
The vocals just makes this classic even better and gives it a spacey vibe. I can see this being played in Super Mario Galaxy. Well done!

Not a *Kevin* Spacey vibe, I hope!

[Chorus]

And I really want to kill Bowser in his sleep, for the better
And it is really hard work, stomping all these goombas

I really wish I could be near Jolly Roger Bay, but I can't
And I really, really want to be with Peach, the princess
