  • I did a review of the Diamond Back HD vs the Bakflip a few years back. You can see that here: • Diamondback HD Vs. Bak...
In any case, off the success of that video Diamondback asked me to review their new SMOOTH surface bed cover. Full write up here: www.garagejour...

Best bed cover ever. I have been using them since 2004 on my Silverado's. Just installed one on my 2020.
Company is very responsive to any problems that may arise.
Simple install, I do it alone in 45 minuets.

I love that cover. And I love it in part because not only do I have the storage underneath, easily accessible enough, but when closed, not only is the top surface a useful area for all sorts of practical things, it can also be a portable back patio or deck, pull a couple of lounge chairs and a cooler out from the under storage, put em up top, and you've got a portable deck for enjoying the outdoors, sun during the day or stars at night. Not bad. Adds a whole new dimension to having a pickup truck. I'm considering either a new Raptor or Platinum (with offset tires and maybe fender flares) and adding the Diamondback HD cover to whichever I get, though I would add some or all the cleats that can come with it too. One question. That rear tailgate seal of the cover. With that tailgate opening and closing all the time, will that rubber seal along the back tailgate stay tight enough when the tailgate is closed to keep water out, rain and snow, maybe even spray from a carwash?

For my use, the center hinge system presents an issue in limiting both height and width of typical cargo. While Diamondback HD’s are built like tanks, the lack of a tri-fold system that enables you to use the full length of your truck bed is a deal killer for me. Cargo room IS the main reason someone would purchase a truck. If I wanted limited room in the truck bed, I’d have purchased a Honda Ridgeline. 😂 When Diamondback HD makes a tri-fold, I’ll purchase one.

Yes, definitely not for everyone. It’s a game changer if you keep your bed loaded with tools and still want to haul loads without removing everything out of the bed. I wouldn’t buy a truck without one; I like to keep my truck ready to work without worrying if I brought a certain tool.

The renegade seems like a great option but have read here QC issues. I understand that the diamonback HD is easy enough to remove and replace and doens't have rails for using the bed

it also has the advantage of just locking with your tailgate you don't need an extrs new key

Just ordered my HD/black/smooth/loose cleats cover today, partially based on having watched this video. Thanks! Like you, I prefer the more subtle smooth finish, and don't like how busy 12 perimeter cleats looks. Just my personal opinion.

I’m getting one my self. Just win you load pallets on top put what is called stickers down on the cover before you load a pallet wood or anything on there with like a forklift it’ll keep them from hitting the locks. All stickers are is a 2 x 2 or even a 2 x 4 cut roughly 3 to 4 feet long. You can honestly go to any hardware store that sells lumber and they would probably give them to you for free. But when you’re loading up your Cover please dear God do not forget to strap the load. And make sure you’re not over 13.6 feet tall from the bottom where the street is to the top of your load.

Why don’t they use carriage bolts on the hinges so someone can’t take the hinges off to break in? Seems like an easy swap. Wondering why they didn’t design them that way.

Their cost is brutal though, along with charging another $200 for the torsion bar if you want one-sided unlock/lock capability. The low-profile is nice though.
