Thanks very much for the great review. I've just got my boat which has an older Humminbird with side imaging, but now I can't wait to get an Elite FS. I have a generation 1 Evinrude Etec motor which is NMEA2000 ready. The Elite units have a beautiful built in "instrument display" that takes all the data from an NMEA2000 ready engine and displays it all on this "instrument panel". So not only do you get a great fishfinder/GPS but a fully fledged virtual instrument display for your engine. What more could a fisho ask for. Before I knew about this I was going to hook up laptop (running the EMM software) with a long data cable, and hope I never got a drop of salt water on it LOL. I believe most modern engines are NMEA2000 compliant. All that's needed is to set up an easy and simple NMEA2000 network backbone (plenty UA-cam videos) and plug everything in.

I knew my crusty old eyes were going to struggle to see the screen on it at the console from the hook-end of the boat, and I want a decent view of side-scan. I've been in system overload for a week trying to figure out whether to just upsize to a Reveal9 or drop the extra pot on the Elite.. You just now, and (old mate at) BCF earlier today have me convinced to get it.
This would be a great upgrade to add on to my pedal kayak. Finding that structure will help me catch more mangrove jacks in the river systems and help me to find the schooling bass in the dams threw winter .. thanks for the opportunity and great review mate .

It's not the glass screen that is difference between the Hds live and Elite fs, it's the screen resolution. They both use the Solar Max glass panel. Hds live resolution is 1280 x 720 pixels, with a quad core processor. Elite Fs is 800 x 480 pixels, with a dual core processor. These are the main differences between the two units.

Downloading the CMap Genesis maps straight from the unit would definitely be an awesome feature to have back. I was actually looking to download maps on the water a few weeks ago from my HDS Live and noticed the feature was missing. Definitely not a deal breaker by any means but a nice convenience feature to have. Great review video, mate 👍
